    After years of battling runoff issues Doc decides to move the downspouts and take the water off the lawn. Washouts from gutters can really cause problems on lawns so looking at ways to move the water is critical. In this video Doc just had new gutters installed and now must move the runoff from the gutters off the lawn.

    Hey Doc, If for some reason this system fails at a future date or doesn't work as planned, there is a guy on RUclips who has a channel called "Apple Drains". He makes a living by dealing with drainage problems. I've learned a lot from him myself. Thanks for all the video's you've posted over the years. All my neighbors call me the "Grass Guy" thanks to your video's.

    12 years ago moved into our new house. Backyard would have a virtual river flowing through it. Could not ignore the issue. Immediately ran a six inch pipe along the run and tied all the rear downspouts into it. Two large catch basins in the run, professionally installed , terminating to a pop up emitter. Works beautifully, never looked back. Just had a huge amount of rain here in SW Atlanta last night...no issues. Sidenote. Just got our soil test results back from Clemson...very pleased. My work is paying off. Thank you Doc and Andersons. Call before you dig...LOL.

    Doc, I did the same project tying in all my downspouts out the back of my property early last spring before the grass greened up. The best decision I ever made was having somebody come out with a trencher and dig me a perfectly cut trench all the way to the back of my property. Saved hours and hours of work and made the project extremely easy. You could easily do it on the other side of your house. I’m telling you it’s worth whatever you would spend to hire somebody to dig that trench with the machine. Trust me, Ryan will be very thankful.

    Nice Work Doc. Some of the best advise I ever got was at a home buying seminar given by my bank about 20 years ago. A home inspector presneted and one of the things he said to do was go out to the house you want to buy during a rainstorm and watch where the water goes. I have had some runoff issues (since fixed) here in Atlanta. But not near what it could have been if I had bought any of the other properties we looked at. Very sound advice.

    I live South of Seattle and I know all about rain. This looks like what I did years ago. I used a pop up drain at the end of the run & no more 6 inches of water at my back slider door !
    Solid plan !

    Great deal on gutters, mine were recently replaced at a cost of 3k (Atlanta Georgia). I did have some sosfets and facia that needed replacement, got seamless gutters.

    So what about when you aerate? Looks like you're going to puncture the top of the pipe? Perhaps it's the camera angle, but looks very close.

    Hey Doc we are a lawn and landscape company based out of Georgia. We do a lot of drainage and I would recommend you clean out the pipes at least once a year. I believe the silt from the clay will eventually migrate upwards into your perf pipe due to the amount of water that it’s going to be in contact with. Also how come it’s buried so shallow? If you aerate it will puncture the pipes.

    Looked awfully close to the surface for when your doing core or spike aeration(?)

    Are you worried the pipe isn’t deep enough? I would think maybe 6” between the top of the pipe and the grass would be good so you don’t have weak grass there?

    • @mrhankey20
      @mrhankey20 2 года назад +1

      Came to say the same thing. The grass on top of the pipe will stress first in the summer. There's not enough dirt to hold moisture.

    Thanks for posting this, Doc.
    Any reason why you didn't want to wrap that perforated pipe with landscaping fabric or some type of barrier to prevent debris and roots from getting through those holes?

  • @GlennPhilp

    Will it be deep enough for aeration as it gets closer to the house?

    The pipe doesn't look very deep there Doc. What happens when you aerate? Could it hit the pipe?

  • @OneWildTurkey
    @OneWildTurkey 2 года назад +1

    A couple of questions and an idea - is that clay under the pipe porous enough to let the water get into the ground? I'd wonder if it might just flow on past the perforated pipe.
    What about screwing that tube down so it won't lift up during really heavy rains? I was thinking it might be more buoyant at times than the thin layer of soil/grass above it.

    Enjoy all your videos. I don’t want to be a ‘Debby Downer’, but it looks like you just barley buried the flex drain and solid drain pipe under the turf grass. I’ve noticed in your videos, you like to do a good bit of Aeration to your turf grass. The pipe didn’t look deep enough, to not get punctured by your Aerator Tines? Looks like you will destroy your pipe, once you Aerate and cause severe damage over time to you drain. Unless your planning to avoid that area for Aeration in the future?? Big Fan of your Channel!!

    I had flex pipe with holes running acros my front yard before I made driveway, buried maybe 3-4" deeper than your and nothing happen. I used to drive above with heavy suv. I looked at pipe when driveway build, it was fine, no damage. Only thing I recommed is to use landscaping fabric arround pipe to limit posibility dirt will get inside and dig it deeper to prevent freezing water inside when strong winter. Ice can damege your gutter pipes system when temperature is arround 0*C, melting at day and freezing at night.
    Another thig is that you have butiful house and now it look is ruined because of that black flex pipe sicking out of ground. I bet you can get that gutter settler, gutter cleaner buried in dirt right at ground level. House looks great, you can clean it, I recommed it to all. We have it in Europe.

    Looks a little close to the surface.....watch the depth when you run your aerator over it or they'll be holes on the top side too......🤣

    It would be cool if could divert that water into lines under your lawn to water your grass when it rains. Why didn't you take the hard pipe to the mulch area?

  • @chrislambert5249
    @chrislambert5249 2 года назад +1

    Not sure if one down spout can handle that much water. Why use pipe with holes. Don't you just want to push that water all the way off the property.

    looks great - i would just use solid PVC so all water exits the property...and it never gets clogged .vs holes ....you also have red clay and that retains water ...either way, your solution will certainly help eliminate excess water...

    I have units, small apartments, right on my back fence line. And they decided to put up a out door area witch is like right up against my back fence. If I fart he hears it. Anyway, he has a drain that leads into my backyard that he hoses the concrete, and runs off all into my yard.
    Now this is starting to affect my lawn. And it's making me mad. I told him twice about it, and that the water is making the bottom of the fence rot. But he still does it!
    So now I'm going to buy big bushy trees, like the Christmas ones! And plant them so close that they will destroy his gutters and he can deal with seeing nothing.

  • @mrhankey20

    I don't think your transition from white pipe back to the black perforated is right. The white pipe should be inside the black pipe. The way you have it seems like water will just flow around the black pipe and out in front of your fence. Maybe do away with the white pipe and use black the whole way.

  • @oqlar
    @oqlar 2 года назад +1

    Man, you did wrong! The pipe is too shallow. The turf needs about 15-25 cm of soil. In summer time you will have a dry line in the turf. Especially because of sand you used.
