- This video is the first in a little series where I follow vintage Vogue patterns and try to bring the line art on the envelopes to life! I tried to match the materials and silhouette as closely as possible with...mixed amount of success.

Complicating things for the sake of cute coordinating buttons is perfectly acceptable behavior. 😊
The chervon created by stripes lining up is so nice that it was undoubtedly worth the effort of such detailed pinning.
“It was sewn on. .../They/ were sewn on. Unfortunately when sewing sleeves, you usually have to sew 2 of them. Which means it could potentially go wrong /twice/. o_o I’m not optimistic when it comes to sleeves.”
... I felt that, deep in my soul. 😶🧵
Why are people so afraid of sleeves? I’ve seen this meme so much but I really never had an issue? Maybe I just had a really good middle school sewing teacher lol
I have always wondered why people freak out about sleeves, then I started watching RUclips videos and saw that most of the time they were putting the sleeve in after doing the side seams... that's the problem... I was taught to put the sleeve in first then do the seam in one go - from hem to hem, industrial style... the only time I ever do the sleeve last is if/when making a 2-piece sleeve. I think I've made exactly 1 garment with 2-piece sleeves in the 40-odd years I've been sewing, and swore I'd never do it again... give me a simple sleeve any day... ;))
@@Ninjozata I made the Hamilton Spencer a while ago and let me tell you, the sleeves on that thing...I cried. I don't mind doing sleeves even if I have to use my brain more, but there were two layers of differently gathered/pleated sleeves, the bottom one made from two pieces, each layer had notches at weird places and half of them didn't match. It was one of two projects that had two days set just for doing sleeves (the other one is was my wedding dress with poofy sleeves made from chiffon).
The end result of this dress was extremely cute. Lining up the stripes was absolutely worth it.
Oooohhhhhh a new series!! How wonderful. I was about to go to bed, but I think I definitely need to watch this before I do. 😍❤️ My favorite quote and a great way to live life in general 8:24 *"...I did not desire that, so I did not do that".*
My most favorite part of this video as well, S H...I love some great Angela sass :D
@@kimmykimmy2007 Me too!! 😍
Oh, the satisfaction of ironing open those perfectly aligned seams 😍
My Grandma P taught me how to sew by sewing over pins if they were perpendicular to the needle. On her old Singers I inherited, they're solid home machines that don't blink at pins. My cheap Brother to sew minky or other shed prone fabric would riot.
Thank-You, My Mother Gifted her older Singer Sewing Machine to me. Of her 8 children I am the only one who has had a sincere lifetime love of her Singer Sewing Machine. I have as yet not been able to get my Wheelchair Accessible Sewing & Crafts Room set up. So for some years I have been watching RUclips Videos and reading comments to help me learn more. You have helped immensely, thank-you.
Brothers are the worst sewing machines ever, I swear. I rage quit on my so many times it went to the Goodwill.
@@IonIsFalling7217 Did you replace it? I hear Pfaff is much better.
@@MegaMagicdog I have 2 Phaffs. Not my favorite. My favorite machine has been my 6020 Viking. After 50 years and 2 rebuilds it's probably not going to last much longer.
Nicchi (old) or Juki ( new)
I will never get tired of hearing Angela say "silk dupioni"
The satisfaction of seeing those stripes lined up so perfectly 😍
A shorter version would make an awesome summer dress.
I actually cut it from the VO for time, but my other comment on this pattern is that it should totally come with a perforated line for a shorter length! It would be such a cute sleeveless summer dress or more casual jumper dress.
I can even see it as a church dress if the guimpe were made with a pretty eyelet or crochet lace.
@@AngelaClaytonCostumery I need to find either this pattern or a similar one because I need a new summer dress lol
Take two turned out so, so cute!! I feel like a shortened version of the dress would be perfect to wear in the summer!
The amount of stunning nail polish in this video!
I came for the spectacular dressmaking and was treated to the fabulous array of nail colour thanks Angela for both🥰
Ma'am! You look striking in this 1940s look and I think I am wayyyy too excited for this new series! I dig it!!
I love how you go through the instructions and come to a "short cut" that makes sense when putting this creation together.
Adorable dress - but every time I see the red and white stripes I think of a hospital Candy Striper! Lol
Love this series idea! Can't wait to see more!
I have a tendency to put your videos on when I'm doing something else. Unfortunately it never gets done because I'm always so ensconced by your video that I end up just watching it instead!
Great content as always. 100% worth remaking the dress, it looks so much better even just on the dressform. Personally I'd cut the dress shorter and wear it as a more casual summer piece. Love it though
Same here, on both accounts!
Oh, I like this SO much. It screams 1940's & the blouse is dreamy.❤❤❤
That blouse alone would be great as day wear too! Or for a hot date!
@@MegaMagicdog Absolutely! Or with high-waisted 1940's slacks.🙂
I do not sew. Yet I love your humor in your instruction revisions and creation process so much that I avidly watch each step.
The first time I saw the pattern weights, I thought they were marshmallows. That sounds like a delicious addition to the laborious task of cutting everything out.
This is absolutely gorgeous!! I love the blouse, especially with the silver added.
I love watching your videos. They soothe me lol
I love how Posey was acting as a fabric weight when you were evening up the hem. Very helpful sewing room doggo! And the dress is lovely, you did such a wonderful job on it!
I like the idea of the new series, and I love your attention to detail. You look beautiful in the finished dress (and I also loved your new cloth weight at 14.29!!!!)
Beautiful design by beautiful Lady .
Love the dress
I love the idea, cannot wait to see what other outfits you will create next.
I enjoyed the video very much. The dress is lovely! I hope you're well and I can't wait to see the next video in the series.
Sooooo stoked for this series!! 💚❤️💚❤️
A new series! I love this idea. It's a very cute dress!
I'd absolutely love to see more of these recreations! So many times I looked at the illustrations on a pattern and thought about how that garment would look in real life
You should totally go a colab with Bianka from TheClosetHistprian! I would watch the crap of the series where you two sew from old patterns/fashion plates/catalogues for one another.
Love the dress and the new ironing board cover xxx
That 'gimp" was super cute. I'm impressed how formal it looked with all the lace and the ribbon. I could see this being a pretty awesome holidays outfit.
Those pattern weights 😍
Love your second make. You look so adorable.
Tape dispenser! I love it when you sew rogue and sew against the grain of the instructions. The second one really does the line drawing justice. Good choice. Excellent series start. Looking forward to more.
Your second attempt was well worth the time and effort and expense! I agreed with your critic at the end- the second little blouse was truly gorgeous! I love how the ruffles on the sleeves ended up adding so much texture. I enjoyed this video very much!
Thanks to Angela, I put French seams in my sewing projects wherever I can 😁
Beautiful work, as usual!
You made me very happy. Thank you.
Hi Angela!! You’ve done an amazing job on replicating the dress.. You look amazingly gorgeous in the finished dress.. I love your attention to detail.. Can’t wait to see the rest of the new series....
💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
Love love love ❤️ this dress!!
Beautiful work, Beautiful dress!!
I feel like I learn more about sewing every time I watch one of your sewing videos. And I think you brought me luck! I started watching this during a short break from making one of the three dresses I’m trying to finish before Easter for my girls. I then had to do sleevils next. And they couldn’t even be called sleevils. I didn’t have to unpick them for tucks even once! I think God smiled on me 😀, or at least on the sleeves. I was so sure that the second one couldn’t possibly work out as well as the first one, and then it did! I just have a hem and a zipper and whipping the lining down over the waistband and then I’m done with the first one. Two more to go, but the same pattern. I have no confidence the other two will get done, but I had backup dresses for those two, and not for the one I made the first dress for.
Anyway, I enjoyed your video very much, and am most impressed with how quickly you accomplish your sewing tasks. Your knowledge and experience are very evident, as well as inspirational.
And your buttonholes looked great! Anyone who examines them closer is too close, especially during this pandemic time.
That outfit is beautiful on the film
Love this pattern!
The dress is really awesome, I love striped fabric!
Wait... 5'10 with linebacker shoulders? Sounds like me. Now I will daydream of wearing your creations even more knowing I'd actually fit them in all likeliness. Love all your creations and this 40's stunner just as much as always.
Just a darling dress! Thank you for posting this!
Very impressive how you managed to get all the stripes matching. The dress looks lovely on you. You did a great job.
Great video. I am looking forward to the rest of this series :-)
I'd definitely keep the dress and add the lining/boning. You look great in it!
I also love the super cute coordinated buttons! It turned out beautifully!
Beautiful just like you!
I love, I love, I love this. It is everything I want to learn. Thank you Angela. Keep inspiring
Beautiful dress and it dances. I adore this series as all the many other you have done. Angela, you will definitely be the bell of the ball. So inspiring watch you create. Thank you for another wonderful film. A good day is when Angela Clayton post a new video.
I... I cannot explain my sudden and fervent desire for a candy cane. 😉 All jokes aside, it’s gorgeous!
the way your silver nails matched the lace trim is so satisfying!
Lovely. Well done.
I wasn't sold on the silver guimpe but the end reveal really redeemed it. It looks radiant and low-key overshadowed the dress
How gorgeous!
They are both amazingly beautiful!! Thank you for sharing all of your hard work with us!
only angela would match nails to trim... i aspire to be this awesome.
Love the nail polish changes 😹 I feel the same about button holes. I love this outfit!
I am just starting out sewing, but I've been watching your channel for years and find your work and level of attention to detail really inspiring. I'm really looking forward to another vintage inspired series!
omg I give you props for making this gown, not once but twice, I so don't have the patience for making clothing.
I love sewing but only home decor I love watching your videos but I would never attempt to do any of the projects you do, thats a whole different level of skill.
thank you for sharing them with us.
your fan from Florida-Loretta
Absolutely gorgeous! I love this idea of this series!
The dark hair makes your skin GLOW!
I love all the skirt on this dress!
This is such a GREAT series idea, Another awesome project, so impressive and entertaining as always
This is a real seamstress work, paying attention to the details. I dislike buying something with a motif that doesn't line up. And I'm happy to see you again Angela ☺️
Hello Angela, glad that you are starting a new series. Tell us about the cute pattern weights.
So beautiful!!!
Love it! Digging the stripes😍
Just beautiful!
You are soooo very creative... amazing!
I'm so happy to see you posting again! ♥️
So beautiful!
Oh my gosh so so adorable! You’re so talented, your videos always blow my mind 🥰
So fabulous! Amazing and personally encouraging to see that reworking a project can be soooo worth it! I was classically trained in drawing/painting, and the instructor would have us rework copy drawings - even if we were 6 weeks in- if something we're at all off (like to the mm). Devastating. But so dang worth the professional mindset building knowing you could and would stick to getting the project right!
That was 10 years ago, and your gorgeous project was a good reminder! Thank you!
I CANNOT stress this enough this suits you so sosososososososooooo well!!!!
This is a beautiful interpretation Angela!
Don't really have much to say, just here to drop a like and comment to support Angela :)
Beautiful.....! 😍
I greatly enjoyed your voice over in this video! Thank you for sharing your wonderful sewing adventures.
you always make me laugh when you talk about closures and sleeves. mostly because that's what I think about them. :D
Those matched up lines look so good.
Love the idea and looking forward to the continued series.
Love the dress and enjoyed watching you make the dress. I subscribed to you and I look forward to watching you again.
Beautiful ! I always love your work, Angela
I want this but shorter, so cute! Amazing work as always 🥰
Oooh! I love this idea!
Love this! It looks amazing!
OMG 😲 satisfying video! Perfectly matched stripes👍 You're amazing!🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
Fantastic!😍
Lovely! So glad to see a new video, I love your content.
The dress turned out totally killer and looks lovely on you.
i love it! and i loved seeing posey too :)
I REALLY liked this
Very nice!👍
This was always my goal!!! I’m excited for your series! 🤩🤩🤩
