I was trying to place where this pattern was familiar. Its like an Arizona green tea but fashionable
Yes! It kinda just says "Spring", doesn't it?
oh my god you're right!! XD
LOL
When has Arizona tea not been fashionable?
@@FlyingBunnycorn😅😅
The best line from this video is obviously, “So I didn’t”. Here for that energy.
yesssss!
I feel like no body ever tells you how funny you are. The way you laugh at yourself and joke about what youre doing is hilarious 😅
I agree
It’s always nice to see how her humour seems to reflect her mood and mental health. During times when her mental health seems better she’s brighter, more joyful, and her self-deprecating humour feels lighter-hearted. Even though she has every right to process her personal life privately, it’s nice to see the change with time.
@@iamthekateastrophe4146 Yeah it makes me so happy when she's chipper and upbeat!
I know! She's so adorable, dude 😂❤️
Yeah, her personality is absolutely the selling point of her channel. There are dozens of sewing channels but Angela's just such a joyful little corner of the web.
« I did buy the cheapest satin gloves to complete that Bridgerton look ». I died, this is so true!, the dress is beautiful though!
Ooooh there is something about that colour combination that's just *cheff's kiss* 😘👌
I agree. Angela says it’s not a color combination she’d usually go for but wow, this is so nice. The colors work so well the way they’re put together and I love love love the sheer fabric over opaque. It’s a gorgeous dress made with great work.
I thought the dress was beautiful on you. Everyone in that era looked pregnant no matter how slim you were! Love the colors!
That's why the tight lacing scene in Bridgerton bothered me. You look pregnant no matter what, why bother?
I was actually really scared of looking pregnant in my first foray into regency costuming, but turns out if you have large enough boobs to stick forward, you don't necessarily look pregnant. Except in a round gown, but I'm not here for those :D
Food baby bumps are historically accurate.
I always had the same insecurity with regency style garments, but now that I see, even the dress form looks "pregnant" with that cut, so why worrying :P
@@essencebeasley6524 lol tightlacing in the Regency ? That's pretty wild since the job of Regency stays was to lift & separate the bosom and maybe smooth out a tummy if need be-- some stays didn't even extend much beyond the empire waistline of the dresses . On top of that, though bone eyelets existed past 1800 most eyelets were still hand sewn and tightlacing basically requires the metal eyelets that didn't show up on corsets until like 1840 ? So yeah almost certainly Regency tightlacers even among the most fashionable and luxuriant of them.
You say you don't look good in Regency clothes but you looked like a porcelain doll when you put it on. Beautiful!
*Sequins can solve all of my life's problems*
This is what I say as I frantically sew sequins on my books as the exam deadline hangs over my head
Hehehehe 😆
good luck on your exams!
😂 as long as you’re studying the pages as you sew the sequins to them, it’s a solid prep plan.
@@merindymorgenson3184 ikr. Latin suddenly looks more interesting when covered in sparkly things
🎶 Just a spoonful of sequins makes the medicine go down 🎶
@@Poppy- 😂 some poor soul will die.
I kind of feel like I need a t-shirt that says "I just like sequins in general" written in sequins.
I kinda want to make an embroidered pillow that says "Sleeves are sneaky"
You look good in this and it is a beautiful make.
I share "it will definitely look pregnant on me" on this style of dress, but actually you look really amazing in it! Love the project :)
I didn't even realize that was puckered bias binding around the neckline, I assumed it was some kind of braided trim. I don't mind the extra texture, with Bridgerton costumes, more is more. Love the color combination you ended up with.
I've had a book cover on my "todo" list for a while now, and you just made me want to do it more... But with sequins!!! :D
@@Stettafire i think you answered under the wrong post :-)
Love it
Orange and green are colors that actually complement each other very well.
Yes I am looking into making something similar and wondering how to get trims to match colour wise etc and Angela has just blown my mind with just making them herself from her fabric and string! How simple! How perfect!
The beading on the ends of the tie in the back were a bit of extra whipped cream on top of the cherry. So in love with this dress and the whole backdrop scene.
I love the combination of the sea foam green and coral, it’s one of my favorite color combinations! Love this video and the dress. I think the dress is more flattering on you than you think. You look gorgeous. And your hairstyle suited it perfectly. That was another gripe I had with the show, those hairstyles with hair hanging down on one side. So wrong.
I have one dilemma re this dress: I can’t decide if I should call it glorious or divine. Maybe it’s both. Love the colors and materials choices (fabrics and decorations). Brava!
Gloriously divine. Divinely gorgeous. Why settle for one or the other when both is a perfectly viable option?
Exquisite! ☺️
This is the most ethereal dress I’ve ever seen
So I'm feeling like this is Giselle from Enchanted with her curtain dress if she landed in Bridgerton instead of NYC
I thought the same thing!
Yes!
YES
Yes!!! I LOVE that curtain dress I want one 😁
It turned out ridiculously pretty! And everybody looks pregnant in regency dresses imo so don't feel bad, you are beautiful!
Refreshing to see someone celebrating what they liked, and simply discarding what they didn't. No need to hate on things. This turned out great 👍
I LOVE THIS DRESS. It has floral, and sparkle and this is the extra thing I didn't know I needed today.
Also: the unicorn rating method...100% gonna use that in the future.
The dress is just so pretty. I know Bridgerton's costuming was not historically accurate, but I found the costumes to be so pretty that I could really ignore the inaccuracies. Your dress is the perfect Bridgerton fantasy!
The costuming style came down to a three concept theme according to one of the behind the scenes videos that really put the whole thing in perspective for me "Real History, High Fashion, Shonda". Each costume has to have an element of all three concepts apparently. Once I heard that I went back and started to look at the costumes again with this specific aesthetic in mind and it made so much more sense than just taking historical accuracy into account.
@Charisma Girl show me where I said historical accuracy sucks, because I didn't.
I was explaining the modern influences on the costume design. And how once those had been explained to me (someone who was very confused by the costume choices while trying to look at them in a purely historical sense, of which I actually have quite a bit of knowledge) then they made much more sense.
I also believe that by explaining how and why costume decisions are made that people are going to be much less likely to assume that these are historically accurate costumes. You don't educate people by berating them, you educate them by engaging with them. My absolute favourite film as a child was the 1940 Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson. It also sparked my love of costuming. Have you seen the costumes in that? They went with the absolutely wild choice of 1830s ballgowns and 1930s hair and makeup. But those of us who love it are under no misapprehension that it is an accurate depiction of regency fashion, or even late Georgian/early Victorian fashion!
And Bridgerton could have been so much worse, it could have been Sanditon where they put their main cast in 3rd rate extras' costumes from other period dramas and left everyone's hair down like it was a shampoo advert! At least Bridgerton chose to make their own visual concept. I respect an active artistic choice far more than a passive one. And bad passive choices will be far more common if we keep pushing this "historical above all other things" mentality in costuming.
I’m shouting “YESSSSSSS!” at the cheap jewellery reference in your Bridgerton review! I always feel so gratified when someone else shares my bugbear 😂
This is a great Netflix series and if they were looking for a young, inspiring historical designer, I hope they call you.
Angela, you are a knock out as a blonde. The dress is outstanding and you belong in Hollywood designing for movies.
Ikr, I'm always tearing my hair out at bad or uninspired costumes in things because I know there's this amazingly talented and creative artist of a designer who would do such a fantastic, eye-catching job!
i mean like. if you're going to be historically inaccurate do it in a fun, glittery way.
I love this!! I absolutely love that you've embraced the regency-inspired fantasy fashion of Bridgerton. I've seen so many people say its not accurate but its I do not think they were trying to be?
Go watch Abby cox's video! She basically said the same
If they were interested in historical accuracy Queen Charlotte and about a third of the cast wouldn’t have been people of colour 😏
CosTube: "Bridgeton isn't historically accurate!"
Angela: "Oh no why?"
CosTube: "Well for starters they used sequins-"
Angela: *immediately sewing a Bridgerton costume* "Okay, I love you, but let me tell you why you're wrong about sequins."
If King Tut had sequins, any era can have sequins, and no I don't care that it's inaccurate
@Charisma Girl I checked before posting my comment, both ancient Egypt and the regency periods used small metal disks with a hole in the center, sewn to garments for decorative purposes. While the term "sequin" came about much later than King Tut's life, it would have been in use in the regency period.
@@EmissaryofWind that's very cool, thanks for sharing! Always enjoy learning something new :)
@@EmissaryofWind thank you for the info
They had spangles which are sequins made of Gold which is just the most awesome of all the things.
incredible! that dress is a work of art! I am amazed
I have seen her peacock dress. Her skills are exceptionally excellent.
I really love how you embrace non accuracy of the show and just take it as inspiration to create something beautiful. I don't think you look pregnant in it, no more than anyone would in an empire waist, however. It looks so pretty and sparkly, love the appliqués and the color combination reminds me of an 18th century porcelain. I give it 10 unicorns/10 XD
this dress turned out gorgeous and that's how you look in it! I actually like how the neckline trim turned out, with a bit of a texture. Looks very much intentional from here :) The embellishments are SPECTACULAR!!
What comes to mind when I see this design “ Flawless my Dear “ 😊 Well done Ms. Clayton
right?!
@@allisonbrown8613 this dress came out beautiful it reminds me of Daphne maintaining her style but adding elements of the the Fatheringtons selectivity 😁
To be fair, I think the empire line gives everyone a maternity gown appearance 🤣
This is my favorite of the dresses you've made. And I love how much joy we can hear in your voice in this video.
I actually loved the costumes, I think they are more inspired by regency era rather then trying to recreate it, after all its set in an alternative history so I've no problem with it taking liberties
@Charisma Girl christ relax, first off I have read the books, its basically a Jane Austin fanfic they are fun but in no way historically accurate... and Netflix say it was inspired by the books not fully based on them. Also stop getting butthurt over the diverse cast. the actors are amazing and I like the diversity it makes it interesting rather then another boring regency love drama. Also once again I love the costumes and the remaking of the modern music which are also not historically accurate but you didn't mention that
@Charisma Girl The very things that annoyed you annoyed me about the series too. However, once I got over the historical "fantasy" aspect, I just tried to enjoy it. Kept reminding myself that fiction is always fiction. You should hear my SO going on about "Vikings" and how no real Viking with any brains intact would charge any battle without some kind of helmet and their gear would have been all mish-mash, because looted from other victims and so on. What's really going to annoy both you and I is that the younger generation will think all the historical inaccuracies are gospel truth, all because some studio execs somewhere thought this is what the sheeple want. The intellectual laziness is the real epidemic.
This is lovely and a confection of colors! Chef’s Kiss on the Bridgerton ‘feel’!!!!!!!
I was kinda horrified at the show costumes but after several episodes i like the fantasy charm on it, it's a big escape series
Oh, Angela!!!! This is the most BEAUTIFUL dress I have ever seen!!!! I would wear that now to a function! And I think you look AMAZING in it!!!!
Angela, I think the dress is beautiful and that you look beautiful in it.
I can't wait to see what you create next.
your fan from Florida-Loretta
This is absolutely stunning!!! You looked like you walked off of the set of a regency show!!! I didn't care that the show wasn't accurate I really enjoyed it!! You do such marvelous work!!!! And I love your wit!!!
My aesthetic trash brain LOVES the applique and sequins, while my ADHD brains cries and immediately gets overwhelmed at the thought of attempting it myself.
This looks better than all the Bridgerton costumes put together!
Theres over a THOUSAND dresses made for the Bridgerton series, isnt that wild???? I agree with you though, this is soo much better than all of them
Yess!!! So much better!!!
Not gonna lie, you're gorgeous, the dress is gorgeous, and you are gorgeous in it.
It is just stunning. I love the colours together.
I love the backdrop that you made and how you styled the dress.
This may not be historically accurate, but it sure is lovely.
The dress is beautiful and I personally think you look lovely in it.
omg this is such a perfect project for you! the dress looks amazing, i liked bridgerton’s costuming but this outshines most of the gown on the show by far!
Angela, you never fail to amaze me, in addition to such artistic talent, you have such a sense of humor and fun to listen when you describe your projects. The dress looks like a Paris courture design! The dress reminds me of a dress I saw on youtube about Paris designs and had Betsy Bloomingdale's dress had purchased in Paris, Dior maybe, and those garments sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars only yours is prettier. Yes the colors work and I happen to think it is flattering on you. A good day for me is when Angela Clayton puts up a new video! Wonderful.
Absolutely adorable!! I’m OBSESSED! If I had this dress I would never take it off!
That dress looks amazing on you!! Definitely not a maternity gown!
Ok i absolutely love these embroidered mesh and have had them in my wishlist on etsy for ages.
Yo, this is gorgeous you look like a fairy princess, your hands are magical my lady👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The dress is absolutely gorgeous. I love all the details you added on. And I think it looks lovely on you
I feel like this is the most you dress you've ever made. It's a work of art.
Please let this be the start of a wonderful series where you side eye costumes from period dramas I'm obsessed
Listen. Listen. Listen. This is GORGEOUS. I'm living for those embroidered wildflowers, and although I would never choose green if I had the pretext for going with a warmer colour, this colour scheme, and the intricate, beautiful details of the embellishments are absolutely stunning. Which, of course, is Angela's whole brand. What a genius at using textures, sparkles, floofs, and all kinds of pretty trifles; what a pro at whimsical, fun, creative designs. Also what a stunner, even in a "maternity dress" and a garish wig; definitely can pull off the notoriously unflattering Regency silhouette, even if it's not her favourite. All round, *chef's kiss*
Everybody looks like they’re wearing maternity dresses in the Regency. You’d have to be consumptive to look right in them. It looks fine on you. More like the 90s version of P&P. The colors are ridiculously over the top but that’s Bridgerton. Very nice.
I hope you find some sequence for your heart!! You are beautiful, amazingly creative and very funny. I would be embarrassed to confess how many of your videos I've watched, but I do find them to be a guilty pleasure! I admire the amount of effort you put into these projects - the number of nail-polish changes count the days. Your self-taught skills are a tribute to the next generation!
The dress is beautiful! It's so flowery and sparkly, I love it. I am so excited for this series.
I love the dress on you! It doesn't look like a maternity dress, I think it looks just like it does in the show. Sooo much work, such a great job
I love the colors, the fabric, everything about this dress!
Love the colours of this dress. It’s so pretty.
Uhm- I think we found the next Diamond of the Season. Someone tell Lady Whistledown!!!!
I love this dress, especially how you worked the embroidered mesh into it. You should do more historic costumes a la bridgerton
"it may not be historically accurate, but it works.. which I feel like they probably said a lot when making the Bridgerton costumes"
hahaha
OMG this is to die for! Love love love this mint dress
Love the colors and fabric choices! If only the Featherington girls had such tasteful colors!
Love this. How nice it all came together.
I love how over the top it is and you look gorgeous in it, I can't believe the work put into this outfit ❤️😍
I do like those colors together and I think you look stunning in this dress. Excellent interpretation.
This dress is positively magnificent. I also agree with your views on the show's interpretations. I know it's not historically accurate but i love all the silhouettes there. And I actually love your fantastical fabrics and elaborate embellishments better. The color scheme really reminds me of your sewing room which is literal goals
Angela, your take on Bridgerton is more whimsical than Bridgerton itself. Lovely!
6 Episodes of Canada’s Drag Race? Wait wait wait historical Costumers watching Drag race? Can we please make a crossover here? I mean this is so my jam!!!
You look absolutely spectacular!
I truly adore the colors on this!
Love love love the fabrics you chose!!!
“Unless you are easily distracted by shiny things like me.” Yep, that’s me my ADD.
This came out so pretty! Looks far more interesting and expensive than the Bridgerton costumes.
Yes! Love this type of your videos! Great to see (and hear) your energy and good mood in the new year.
Makes me excited for spring!
"And I generally try to avoid things looking really bad" xd
I came here faster than the speed of light
Oh it's absolutely gorgeous!

Next were going to add ✨embellishment✨
*Sews on hundreds of sequins by hand*
I love how baby these type of dresses make people look it’s very youthful and cute. Tbh it’s my favorite style of historical dress
I love the colors together!
Beautiful as always, you're so good at what you're doing! And c'mon, everybody looks a bit pregnant in Regency fashion - you look great! :)
Just saw Abby's video about how Bridgerton is not historically accurate, but can also be so inspiring for costumers.
I love this dress so much and all the details you put into it! Wow!
Those colours look so lovely together!
I really love the Bridgerton Costumes! Are they historically accurate? No, definitely not but I also don’t think that they were going for historically accurate. I mean they also play Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeren so.... 🤔🥰
I always thought it’s funny how showing ankles was indecent but women would have their full on chests out in dresses like this lol
Ooo, Empire was an extremely scandalous fashion in general! The whole look was inspired by ancient Greece, it showed off a natural form of the body (certainly compared with stays and crinolines); fabrics were extremely fine and very often white, so they could end up more or less see-through, which could be avoided ofc, but could also be exploited. Apparently there were some fashionable ladies who even wetted their gowns so that they would cling to their figures and complete that Greek statue look - it's dubious how true that is irl, but certainly you can see that in portraits from the era, as well as the completely sheer fabrics.
But on the other hand, breasts used to be less sexualised than currently. Legs lead up to what's between them, so to speak; breasts are for babies and breathing.
And on the other other hand, I guess there's a balance there? There were some eras when hemlines went up above the ankle, but necklines covered at least up to the neck. To some extent you have that even later - like the 60's minidress had a boat neckline or turtleneck - and it's really this century we started baring legs and cleavages at the same time, when I think about it? Anyway.
(by wetted I mean misted with water, of course lol)
@@Cationna that’s very interesting! Thanks for your reply
I just need you to know how much I loved this video!! Hearing you gush about sequins whilst expertly sewing them on was absolutely delightful and your choice of fabrics and appliqués were a feast for the eyes! Fantastic work!! 💕
i looove the overlay, the flowers on that are so pretty!
I don't think it looks like maternity at all and it's lovely.
