Completely disagree on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman sequel suffered from a dreadful script and story.
Wonder Woman suffered the second they announced Gal Gadot had been cast as Diana. She is not a good actress unfortunately.
@@WreakinHavocOnUthat’s your opinion but in my opinion I think she is a good actress
@@solarflame-he6cw I agree. I find nothing wrong with her acting.
At the beginning of course critics call her too skinny, lacking talent and other bad names, now when mentioning Wonder Woman the image that appears in everyone's mind is Gal Gadot, she wins they lose.
@@WreakinHavocOnU What on Earth are you talking about? Her and Henry Cavill as Superman are the highlights of the DCU.
In Blade Runner 2049; Wallace was supposed to be played by David Bowie. Now imagine how amazing THAT performance would have been. RIP.
Cameron Diaz firstly did not 'look' of that era. She was a bad choice for sure. I would have cast Julianne Moore or Cate Blanchett in the role.
Scorsese nearly went with B-list actress Vinessa Shaw, best known as the girlfriend in Disney's HOCUS POCUS - and more Irish-looking than Diaz.
Really stretching the “amazing movie role” part. This is just a rehash of lists like “films ruined by bad acting” or “films with one bad acting role”
Disagree with Gadot & Lazenby. Lazenby is actually pretty underrated in the role, that ending is heartbreaking & he delivers it well!
I have precisely these same two on my "disagree" list.
And even more so, Lazenby cried in the first take, real tears and everything, but the director was like "007 never cries". I don't think anybody in the audience would have minded in that situation.
George Lazenby actually was a trained military commando, unlike every OTHER 007.
And the best Bond. The perfect combination of intensity and culture (as opposed to Connery's thug in a tuxedo).
@@john-lenin "thug in a tuxedo" would describe Daniel Craig's Bond. And I say that as someone that loves Craig's bond.
@@john-lenin On the presumption this is a satirical account, well done
@@john-lenin A thug-xedo?
@@john-lenin Absolutely loved him!
the writers need to start doing deeper research when writing these lists. they always go for the lowest hanging fruit. i get deja vu watching a new video sometimes
Reeves role in Dracula could also show inexperience at the time.
Whenever I rewatch Dracula I just keep in mind some headcannon I made up. That Harker was a man trying to improve his station in stuffy, Victorian England and was affecting his accent and mannerisms to fit in with a higher strata of society. There's a few hints in the movie that he is self-conscious of his background and intent on keeping up appearances, and that sort of fits his somewhat wooden persona.
@@RictusHolloweye actually that would make sense. The English like to keep up thier appearance
@@RictusHolloweye What's "headcannon"? Is that when you go the bathroom with explosive diarrhea?
@@davidanderson_surrey_bc - No, that's arsecannon.
Just keep in mind that the man would later become the great John Wick in a future life and Dracula is not that bad.
It wasn't Godot's performance - it was the lack of writing and directlng. They just dressed her up and put her in front of the camera for a couple of cameos.
Which I do think is an important demonstration of how quickly the writing went down the drain after the first WW movie.
But the thing is go watch her in any other movie she's been in besides Wonder Woman and you'll see someone who's acting experience just isn't good. The thing is she's got a good look and she's got a good personality and if the writing is at least decent she can kinda make do but if the writing is crap (which apparently is for all the other films she's done) well there's not much to work off of.
It was definitely her performance/acting
The greatest actors can make even the briefest cameos memorable. She seemed like she was just phoning it in because she had to.
There is a large difference between the greatest and TERRIBLE however. Not to mention it is supposed to be AMAZING movie roles, yet the idea that WW84, JL, or S2 were amazing roles is laughable at best.@@richetoku
That was such a shame. Had the best coming attraction video.
Dude how can you say Christopher Nolan doesn’t handle women characters well in Dunkirk?!…it’s entirely set in a world war 2 warzone🤦♂️
Maybe she's confusing "Dunkirk" with "Starship Troopers".
Are you suggesting women _weren't_ on the front lines of WWII? Sounds like alt-right talk to me.
Let me get this straight: you have Lex Luthor being played by Jessie Eisenberg. Universally panned. You have Wonder Woman being played by Gal Gadot. Universally praised (seriously, go look up all the nominations she has on her Wikipedia). And you put Gal Gadot on here?
I used to watch your channel every day. Now, this is the first video I’ve watched in months and it reminded me exactly why I stopped watching. It seems like your writers are pulling things out of their asses and hoping nobody knows any better.
Some say she is the best part of dawn of justice
@@jeevar4281 I wouldn’t argue with them
Sophia Coppola's acting is very bad but honestly... I don't even remember it. However.... when she's shot dead and Pacino takes that long silent pause before letting out that yell... OMG, that was powerful!
Corleone(y) fucking sigh
The audience barely had time to absorb that part, being that they were already in stitches from Sofia's reading of one word, "Dad".
In my opinion Jared Leto is not that bad in 2049. His over the top style fits with the role he is playing.
I agree, but I also agree most of his parts could have been cut for a tighter movie. But they lacked the guts to cut it because Leto was a name they could sell the movie with.
Fleming may have passed on during the Moore era, missing out on the following Bonds, but he did once claim that Lazenby was the closest at capturing the essence of the character. He was supposed to be a 'Jack Ryan', not a 'Jason Bourne'! 🤨
Lazenby was the worst Bond in the best Bond movie. A slob Bond.
Lazenby has been considered the worst bond in the movie series history.
Lazenby was terrific in the role as Bond, and should have gone on to star as him a couple more times, at least.
That's the thing, people make the mistake that he didn't return because people didn't like his depiction.
But the reality is that someone advised him not to get typecast as Bond.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service is actually a great Bond movie that deserves more love. Especially given the travesty that followed with Diamonds are Forever.
Marrion Cottillard as Talia Al Ghul (THAT death scene), Sophie Turner as Dark Phoenix, Kristen Stewart as Diana, Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jared Leto as Joker.
Just fyi, for some reason Nolan decided to use a horrible take of that scene for the final version of the film and not one of the actual good takes the actress recorded.
Let's be honest... Jared Leto as ANYTHING is just bad.
Jaden Smith, especially in After Earth.
Kit Harrington as the expressionless John Snow.
Tommy Wiseau overall
@@davidanderson_surrey_bc He's worse than me singing and even autotune self cancels itself when I start singing.
@2:57 Am I the only person that thinks Sophia Coppola got a bad rap for her role in Godfather 3? She was a goofy teenager playing a goofy teenager in love, and I thought her performance was pitch perfect. The movie fell short in myriad ways, by comparison to the first two entries in the trilogy, but Coppola's performance was not one of them...!
Most of these are due to directing choices and the viewers preference... not terrible acting. I'd say only a few of these are due to some subpar acting chops.
I agree, and someone could be a really good actor, yet unsuited for a role. Just like someone could be a great football player but a terrible basketball player.
Yeah from the list it seems FFC is the problem, not the actors.
I really do wonder who made the choice to put Cameron Diaz in gangs of New York. I mean it felt kind of like some kind of weird mandate by the studio or something to try to get more attention to the movie.
I mean everyone else in that movie is extremely solid, she stands out like a sore thumb.
I was just about to make the same comment. I'd also add "casting choices" to the problems. There really was NO reason to cast Keanu Reeves in "Bram Stoker's Dracula" beyond "get teen girls in the theater." And I say that as a moderate fan of Reeves but he was hopelessly out of his depth in this movie.
The Blade Runner sequel “IMPROVED ON WHAT CAME BEFORE?!!!” Are you high, drunk and crazy? There is not one single element of the sequel that is better than the original.
True. But it is still an excellent movie.
The cgi, settings were better. The villain
@@albaestrada8603 A movie that came out in 2017 had better CGI than a movie that came out in 1982? Mind. Blown.
And settings - No
Villain - Hell no
@@albaestrada8603 Disagree; the original effects will hold up better. The villain had no purpose. And the replicants can now reproduce? You’re missing the whole point of the original and baseline story.
You're on glue. Jared Leto was perfectly fine in Blade Runner. I thought his weirdly detached manner suited his character.
To be fair huffing glue is delightful
Especially if you splurge for Elmer's--the good stuff.@@caseykiesling4348
They just don't like Leto. Look at all the crap he gets for the highly butchered Joker in Suicide Squad. That whole movie was screwed over but they seem to put a big chunk of blame on his role which was reduced to bit parts instead of central villain like the original cut had him.
Jared? Is that you?
Wtf? Lol
I'll give you 8 out of 10 on this one. But Gal Gadot had to make do with poor writing. And George Lazenby? Come on... he had to follow the immortal Sean Connery. And again, like Ms Gadot, he did the best he could with the script he was given. Also, George put in the most physical performance of all the Bonds in the entire series, with the possible exception of Daniel Craig.
I only watched Wonder Woman. Gadot did an amazing job. I heard about another one where Steve's spirit was in another man's body. That is a weird story concept!
I totally agree, the script was horrible, the premise was horrible, and I only watched it for Gadot. Were the script writers on crack? Who gave this screenplay the green light? She did the best she could do with it, but it really was unwatchable from the get go.
Justice for Zachary Levi, he was great as Shazam, the script of the second was at fault there
Gal Gadot did nothing wrong in Wonder Woman it was the script
WAY off base with Gal Gadot she was dope as Wonder Woman
And somehow, George Lazenby isn't the worst person to play James Bond.
I can't agree more on Jake Gyllenhaal's performance in Okja. He totally took me out of the movie in every scene he was in
I think you're being incredibly harsh on Orlando Bloom in Kingdom Of Heaven. He was never supposed to be a "grizzled" and "battle-hardened" soldier. His character was a grieving blacksmith who had to learn to adapt to becoming a leader.
Good defense!
The talk about Nolan not handling female character. Murphy in Interstellar literally saves the world
Dude literally the very next sentence after this is praise for the female characters in The Dark Knight and Interstellar
@@antoniacosta6221 I’m not saying the talk from the person in the video, just generally speaking that it’s a topic people discuss and it makes no sense
People just like to imagine new ways to hate on Nolan.
Nolan isn't always great on characters. What the hell is so great about the characters in Tenet? That movie was nothing but a visual gimmick showing off impressive stunt set pieces. Same with Inception, which was another gimmick movie. And even if he does great with women roles, he is no where near as great with women as somebody like Ingmar Bergman.
@@filmbuff2777 why you ranting? It’s about Interstellar. He doesn’t have to write the perfect female every time. Inception is a quality film
I hope Andi Mcdowell is on the list we watched Four Weddings today and shes so bad in it.... all the naturalistic acting and her so wooden.
#4 seems like a strange critique. if you ever watch Justice League cartoons, Wonder Woman is typically kind of bland and stoic. Gadot fit perfectly for that role. I didn’t see WW84 because the movie looked stupid, so I can’t speak to that one. However, the BvS, WW, and JL movies, she completely fit Wonder Woman
Keanu didn't do great. I'll give you that. But Winona's acting in Dracula was just as bad, so how dare you?!?
Gary Oldman carried this film with his amazing portrayal of Dracula. everyone else's performance varied from average to atrocious. Even Anthony Hopkins couldn't do much with what he has.
@@alisalem4688 You'd be hard pressed to find a more diverse acting resume than Gary Oldman's.
@@davidanderson_surrey_bc I agree completely. Especially his earlier work.
Winona's *accent* was poor, but her overall performance wasn't terrible. Keanu was totally awful, bless him. Just a case of bad casting, although to be fair that could be said for a number of roles in that film.
I think Keanu Reeves tried a few different things, didn't he also do a Shakespeare movie? Then realised that action is his thing. He doesn't have much range but he has loads of charisma.
This podcast was "ruined by terrible" narrator critiquing: e.g., Cameron Diaz and Sofia Coppola were obviously verisimilitudinously AMAZING in their roles.
I actually really like Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes.

Leto is the kiss of death for many good movies.
Ed Norton outperformed Orlando Bloom while wearing a mask during the whole movie. But I think Bloom has improved a bit in recent years.
Sophia Coppola was dreadful.
Not being as good as Ed Norton isn't really a fair comparison. Norton was/is a generational acting talent. While not a huge fan of Bloom, he's not bad. And I didn't feel he distracted at all from KIngdom of Heaven. The movie's biggest problem was being butchered on the edit room floor for theatrical release.
@@Pfisiar22 You forgot about the mask...
Frankly, I thought Bloom's performance was atrocious, other production issues notwithstanding. But, like I said, he's improved a lot since.
A great actor compared to a mediocre one.
Bladerunner 2049 was one of the times that I liked Jared Leto's performance.
People really need to realize that Beyonce isn't a great actress. She never was.
If Godfather 3 had cast someone like Sherilyn Fenn it would have been near perfect! Sophia is a great director - not an actress. A very self indulgent move to cast her.
To be honest, Jared is an amazing actor, he certainly was in Requiem For A Dream back in 2000, but here he played a character so detached from the world around him, that his acting is supposed to be flat and uninspired. And he's only in the film for 10 minutes in total, so I think it's a bit unfair.
What about Madonna as Eva Peron in Evita?
At least she sings nice.
I’d say Ghassan Massoud as Saladin was also a great performance in Kingdom Of Heaven.
Yes. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves for that portrayal.

Ha I knew Sofia Coppella would be on here. First clip lol
Ok...Now ask me why I don't subscribe to this channel.
OHMSS is one of the best Bond movies. People get their panties in a bunch because Lazenby wasn't Connery. But he was closer to the character as written by Fleming and closer than later Moore, Dalton and Brosnan takes on the the role. I appreciate all of the actors who have played Bond for what they have brought to the character, and the Lazenby hate is unjustified.
What are you talking about with The Dark Knight Rises? Catwoman is an awesome female character, and definitely one of Nolan’s more layered (albeit helped immensely by Anne Hathaway’s performance).
How does Jered Leto keep getting roles?!
Because he's pretty and sometimes can nail really good preformances like in Requim for Dream and Dallas Buyers Club. He is just bad actor for action movies. Similar like Sean Penn and Michael Douglas.
They keep confusing him with Jay Leno.
@@davidanderson_surrey_bc😂😂😂😂
Lazenby is good. Reeves was so wooden in Dracula, it was dangerous putting him next to candles.
Agree with gangs of New York only
George Lazenby was a perfectly fine Bond and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is one of the best in the series. The rest of the list was totally fair though. 😉
Yes he was wonderful he just didn’t want to act like bond in his time off and during promotion.
Yeah, I liked him just fine. Not saying he was a potential Oscar contender or anything, but he definitely didn't ruin the movie.
Leto, Gadot, and Lazenby are alright. Honestly, there are so many other performances that come to mind - Hannah in Wall Street anyone? You did get Beyonce right. Great singer and stage performer but, like Madonna, just cannot act well despite various attempts.
Glad you added nuance to most of the critiques.
She's slowly growing, it's taken a while but I'll give her that. Good call.
I actually prefer Katie Holmes over Maggie Gyllenhaal in Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise.
This is the first time I've EVER heard Gyllenhall's version praised over Holmes'!
I've ALWAYS heard the exact opposite criticism that's in this video. I've never heard anyone say Maggie's performance was better than Katies, ever. Personally, I just didn't like the character very much so I don't really have much of an opinion either way. Just that this is the very first time I've EVER heard anyone say Maggie Gyllenhaal was better than Katie Holmes, lol.
Cor-leon. Is how it's pronounced.
Do a shot whenever the narrator says "range"
Even though I think this actor is one of the most incredible people on the earth, I have to agree with you that Keanu Reeves dropped the ball in Dracula.
Godot's WonderWoman was fantastic. By far the best thing in the DCEU, which is why they overused her, attempting to drag up their otherwise mediocre movies. WW64 was awful writing. The first WW remains by far the best DCEU movie & Gadot is a large part of the reason for that.
Leto was not bad at all in 'Blade Runner 2049'! Bowie of course would have been perfect as the role was intended for him, but Leto did well too. Orlando Bloom was really badly miscast and was not up to the task in 'Kingdom of Heaven', Katie Holmes was abysmal in 'Batman Begins', Sofia Coppola was subpar but not that bad as people say i 'The Godfather Part III, Keanu was awful in a masterpiece that is 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'.
I felt badly for Sofia Coppola. She didn't want to do the role, but her father convinced her to. She was 18, had very little experience, and was publicly excoriated. (Except for the pervy middle-aged critics who wrote about how "exotic" looking she is. 🙄)
The role that Sofia Coppola horribly botched in The Godfather: Part III, should have gone towards to Winona Ryder, of which the latter was not able to take that role due to illness, at that time.
It's quite ironic that Winona Ryder would end up working with Francis Ford Coppola in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
To those in this comment section not understanding why Jared Leto keeps getting roles, this is for you.
It happens because he is a great actor. The problem is the movies he keeps getting dropped into are mostly garbage, and he can't save them by himself.
Proven over and over again by WhatCulture themselves with terrible lists like this.
I was pleasantly surprised with his Joker, after hearing it trashed thoroughly. No one's gonna top Ledger, of course, but I liked all the unique unhinged bits that Leto brought to his interpretation. The manic energy. The teeth. The tatts. Okay, maybe the "Damaged" across the forehead was a bit too on the nose, but I still like it!
It always makes me laugh when people criticize the Irish accents in gangs of New York. That's because they're portraying people who have Irish parents yet grew up in new york. Their accents are going to change.
Exactly.
Rebecca Schaeffer was scheduled to audition for the role in The Godfather Part III. Sadly, she was murdered by a stalker that morning at the tender age of 21.
any role played by milla, that is why I did not enjoy movies like Fifth Element, Resident Evil (there were more problems than just her) or the new Hellboy (not like it was a gerat movie to begin with) she ruins the movies she is in.
Gal "bedroom eyes/pudding mouth" Gadot is awful in everything she's in.
Including the bedroom?
7:57 this is the only Bond movie I've never seen all the way through. I'm 53 and have seen every Bond movie at least 5 times. Except this one. My record is under 25 minutes. I is so bad, it makes The Cable Guy seem like an Oscar winner. Lazenby was sooooo boring.
I am genuinely surprised to see anyone admit that Beyoncé is a terrible actress, so thank you for that honesty! As far as the DCEU is concerned, Gal Gadot proved she can act in the Wonder Woman movies. Her parts in the other movie was terrible because of the writing. Not to mention the VERY bad directing. Let's just pretend the DCEU doesn't exist, shall we? Ahhh, that's better. 😌
suggestion 10 actors who started in a Roger Corman film
Totally disagree about Gyllenhaal in Okja, he was awesome
George Lazenby was very okay as 007.
The only "ruining" thing was the behind the scenes drama during and after production.
Also bashing Gal Gadot for WW84, and what followed after while disregarding her work in BvS and her first movie, is like saying Arnold Schwarzenegger sucks because of Terminator Genesis andTerminator Dark Fate while ignoring the first two movies.
You miss Deena Jones' impact entirely. Beyoncé, like Madonna, works best with strong direction. In Dreamgirls she had it and gave us an ideal, classy & dignified straight woman to Anika and Jennifer.
I actually thought Leto was very compelling in 2049. And, to be fair, it's really hard to keep up with Jamie Foxx.
There was a video on this very channel that said Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker was better than we all gave it credit for.
Hard disagree on the katie holmes, the more you watch begins and especially the dark knight, her rachael dawes is far better than maggies
Glory/Mathew Broderick.... such a great movie but his acting absolutely sucks and destroys it!
especially when compared to Denzel Washington's powerful performance in that.
Wait - Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman - are you serious?? WW84 wasn’t her fault; there was nothing wrong with her acting. The movie sucked - mostly because you had TDS-infected filmmakers using what should have been a fun sequel (to a great film) set in the 80s to SCREAM!!! at their audience for electing Trump, but not only Trump to actually SCREAM!!! at their audience, forty years belatedly, for having elected Ronald Reagan-whom, they are apparently unaware (because they in a bubble) is almost universally popular. You take an AWKWARDLY partisan message and mix it with a plot that makes NO EFFING SENSE and you have a disaster. That is not Gal Gadot’s fault-and if there was any sense that she was phoning it in, it was probably out of embarrassment.
And then…she made a cameo in Shazam 2. So what?
Me thinks you just don’t like Gal Gadot.
Top of my list would be Diana Ross as Dorothy in The Wiz. Pretty much everything about The Wiz was great, but Ross managed to kill the entire movie with her overwrought, screechy, weepy acting.
I mean, Leto was only miscast in Morbius, where they made the mistake of not casting Leto for every single role.
Cameron Diaz acted circles around Leo (and Daniel acted circles around both of them, but that's a different topic). And her accent was not meant to be pure Irish but Americanized Irish, which it was. And the Golden Globes might take some exception to her inclusion in this list.
For someone who saw the original Blade Runner when it first came out in the cinema. I can tell the 2049 is not better or anywhere near close to the original. As soon as I heard Ryan Gosling was playing the lead, I knew it wasn't going to be good. He ruins nearly every film he's been in and as for Jared Leto, I haven't seen any film with him that's any good.
On her Majesty's Secret Service is in my top 3 Bond films. Yes, Lazenby is not a great actor. But for a debut in such a major production, he did well.
I wouldn't say these actors ruined their films. Gadot is fine for a super hero performance. Jared Leto is in BR2049 so little, doesn't bother me too much.
When people criticize acting, nine times out of ten it's the *_role_* or *_character_* they're criticizing; but they need to pin the blame on someone they can see, and that is the actor.
The reason why Jared Leto played Niander Wallace with such lack of emotion and detachment is because that is how the character is supposed to be, since he is so invested in becoming a transhuman. He literally lost some of his humanity, and that's why he played his role that way. There was nothing wrong with his performance; Leto had forward thinking in his portrayal.
Also, leave Gal Gadot alone, please. She is the perfect Wonder Woman.
Sophia deserves respect for being THROWN IN (yes) to her role by dad Francis Ford Coppola - at the last minute, with *no preparation* at all. He should be excoriated as the abuser he was.😠😡
In another universe, Reeve's career would have been snuffed by this performance alone.
NO WAY! Keanu played that naïve role perfectly, plus he got to marry Winona!
100% disagree about Jared Leto in "Blade Runner 2049". I thought he was terrifying. He probably has more bad performances than good, but that was one of his good ones.
Number 10 makes no sense, the character is clearly meant to be played that way
One performance that grates on me is Edward Furlong in Terminator 2. It's a very good movie, but every time Furlong is on screen, I want to grab some scissors and cut his hair. And try to get him to shut up.
Nicolas Cage as Captain Correlli. The guy who played Mandras completely stole the movie from him.
I think Anne Hathaway for the Dark Knight Rises would be a better pick than Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. She’s a great actress but just didn’t fit as Catwoman
Orlando Bloom seems like a nice enough chap, but I’ve no idea why he keeps getting roles 🤷🏼♀️
Diaz is fine in Gangs of New York. Its not specifically mentioned in the film she was an Irish immigrant (recently arrived at least) & she did was looked after by Bill The Butcher when she was a child, so it doesn't necessarily mean the character had to have a thick Irish accent. I think she emotions she pulls off are fine & I thought she did well with DiCaprio. I probably would have cast somebody else, but I think she is fine. I think the film is brilliant anyway.
Reeves in Dracula isn't great to be sure, but Ryder's accent is pretty poor as well. I do think he "looks" the part of a Jonathan Harker though. And honestly, the accents of Diaz & Reeves are flawless compared to Johnny Depp's stereotypical cockney accent in From Hell. He made Frederick Abberline sound like a thug from the slums.
And I think Sofia Coppola gets too much flack. She's fine. She came in at the very last minute. Ryder wouldn't have been any good anyway. The biggest problem with Godfather Part 3 is Paramount refusing to pay Robert Duvall the same as Al Pacino, & the lack of Tom Hagen really hurt the film.
Oh, and I wouldn't say Nolan is weak with female characters. He's frankly weak on characters in general. Not all the time, but while everyone rags on how Avatar has forgettable characters, the same can be said for Tenet (which was just a visual gimmick to showcase impressive stunt set pieces), or Inception (another visual gimmick). Nolan isn't the genius internet "experts" claim he is.
I'm sick of people bad-mouthing Cameron Diaz's accent in GONY. That accent was *intended* to only be slightly Irish. People need to stop being so ignorant.
Robert De Niro has been mailing it in for twenty years...
I don't think you can honestly blame the actors for how utterly awful the DCEU has been from the beginning. The writing is too abysmal for any actor to distract from.
Gal's portrayal of Wonder Woman was perfectly fine. It's the terrible script and poor direction that's to blame.
This list should be called "10 amazing movie roles ruined by terrible miscast, writing and directing". Most of the list has nothing to do with actors and their abilities.
