  • Plant-based meats are here to stay. But they are not without controversy. Not everyone is thrilled that you can make burgers out of soy and coconut. Or fried chicken out of jackfruit. And while many of these products contain high levels of plant protein, critics say they are also high in sodium or unhealthy fats. So, does going meaty with Impossible Foods or Beyond Meat pose some health risks?
In Ep. 269, Dr. Christopher Gardner discusses the Study With Appetizing Plantfood-Meat Eating Alternative Trial (SWAP-MEAT) that looks into the effect of plant-based meat on cardiovascular disease risk.
Dr. Gardner refers to trimethylamine N-oxide or TMAO as a "promising risk factor," suggesting a potential link between elevated TMAO levels and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. This connection, however, still needs to be established conclusively. Tune in for more about the findings of the study.

I asked on another video of yours... Is there any research comparing the longevity of plant based protein vs whey supplements that don't have all the saturated fat? There's a lot of stuff showing that animal protein in the form of red meat isn't great, but I can't find anything about whey supplements.

"Compared to what?" Were they matched for identical saturated fat content?

If you are going to eat junk food, it should be plant based junk food!

Plant-based meat? This is the same as wooden iron.

Even the lack of heme-iron should be a plus for the Beyond burgers...

Did he really just say there were two types of HDL, large fluffy and small dense? That's a pretty fundamental mistake for someone who's been involved in this theater for that long.

    Rotting animales versus plants🤔

I wonder how much you get paid to promote this. I would love to see a study comparing the fake meat with a true carnivore or ketovore diet.
