Unclogging Culvert After Flooding Rain To Drain Flooded Roadway

  • I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

Hard work this one, everyone likes the idea of clearing a culvert where you stay relatively dry and just rake it. You soaked yourself to the bone to get this one done, the hero we need.

Part of it is a time factor, theoretically the DOT should clear a culvert in under 3min and then clear a bunch, where as Post10 is just after the fun of clearing them (and good video footage).

@@NecramoniumVideo New England has been in a bad drought for most of the second half of summer, we even had a storm drop up to 5in in some places and it barely reduced the drought stage. (It was an all day event, and the heaviest rain was in southern CT)
I'm hoping he managed to get some unclogging footage from that storm, although he has managed to put enough pressure (from shame) on the DOT to actually keep the streets clear of debris so the drains work.

We had a good downpour the end of June and then one small rain in August, and another several inches a few days after that - so it did get to soak in better because of the short rain. Had a house in the subdivision get struck by lightning, I think it got their electrical because they have to fix it all from building to interior. Good job on the clog.

I was thinking that the moment he started feeling unsafe is when he'd get out and let it drain back a bit.

It's far worse if the culvert is under the surface because there's no air gap and it starts siphoning.

    Really enjoy the videos
    Here’s an idea
Put the camera on a small boat and send it through the cleared culvert

We all trust what you tell us. In the future it would be nice to see what you are talking about with how fast the current is going. So it gives us a perspective of what is happening.. Thank you for what you do.

The nurse in me sees you doing these "dives" and it makes me anxious that you're going to get an infected cut or some waterborne illness. I know you know what you are doing and probably are well-versed in safety here, but it low key stresses me out sometimes lol.

A friend of mine ended up in the hospital, because he drank some water out of stream that was dark stain water and ended up getting very sick from the water.
Plus you need to wear gloves Neoprene, and chest waders of Neoprene you can wear just a pair of shorts and socks, I use to work for a company that did docks and boat lifts and I am 6 ft 2 inches tall and those waders would come almost up to my neck, very comfortable easy to get off, but like every kind you can get holes in them, but use boot goop, that works great on any type of fabric of shoes or boots wet or dry. BOOT GOOP.
