Your egg noodle recipe is pretty much the same as the one my Grandma Murphy taught me to make that we shared in the church 75th Anniversary cookbook years ago. They’re simple. The hardest part is rolling them out thin enough. That took me a bit of time to master. Now I want homemade soup.

My mother-in-law is 92 years old, still lives with her husband of 73 years in an appartment. She has been through war. Fled twice, once from Prussia, once from East-Germany. She got to know true hunger, learned to make food from dirt, so to speak. She does not like to waste food, of course. And she knows how to cook, including reasonable healthy food. Like chicken soup and many other soups. When you talked about how much food there is from this turkey soup, how many people can be fed, you spoke to my heart.

I can't explain it but you hit it right on, it's in our hearts. hugs to your Mother-in-law.

Jennifer, what I have done is take a pizza cutter and cut the dough into strips that way it's a little easier than using a knife. Either that or what I have done is roll the dough up GENTLY, and then take my knife that I cut up the vegetables with and I slice them in ringsand then unroll them and kind of fluff them with flowers so that they don't stick to each other.
I think I'm going to make this for dinner tomorrow night so thank you for this!

After Thanksgiving dinner is over, i pull the meat from the bones and put it in the fridge. I roast the bones at 350 for 45 minutes to an hour with onions , celery and carrots. Salt pepper. I dont even peel the veg. I just wash them.
Then i make the stock. I strain it. Then i use that as the basis of my soup. Roasting the bones and veg really adds flavor to my stock. I usually freeze about half the stock for soup later.

@@tobyword1089 I tend to roast at higher temps, usually 425. I put the whole lot, veg and bones in a pot of clear water and boiled to get nutrients out of them and then strain through cheesecloth and us that both as the base of my soup. I do not use the veg directly in the soup as the nutritional value is gone after I make the stock with it.

So delicious as always! Of course I have to prepare that too! That’s how we overhere in Germany do our noodles too, we only roll the dough thinner. We like thin noodles. But anyway, I need to do that too! And the rolls again too!
And what I also really appreciate is that all can be cooked and prepared without a load of expensive and big machines and pots and you use your plain hands to work on the food. No complicated steps! ❤️

I make a similar style of egg noodles and have found that if I don't have time to let them dry, I just cut them in squares, put them into the pot making sure the liquid is at a good simmer and cover the pot and call them dumplings! Still delicious, just a bit more thickening to the soup as the flour in the noodles cooks out a bit more!

We will make turkey tetrazzini with lots of veg in it and sandwiches with lots of leftovers in them, but the greatest volume of leftovers (other than those given to others to take home with them) go into turkey salad and turkey soup. We make a huge meal that can accommodate even unexpected guests and we have leftovers the entire holiday weekend. It's delightful to us. You are so right about the basics for a healthy, hearty meal (or meals for even an entire weekend during a blizzard) that will please, warm and fill everyone. Cooking employs the senses, doesn't it? You can hear the sound of well done or see when something is translucent or feel a certain level of firmness with the stirring implement, so can tell when your food is ready. Of course, that means we have to be present to our food, unless it's in a slow cooker.

Here in Australia we can buy a soup pack of vegetables which consists of an onion, several carrots, celery stalks, a parsnip and a Swede ( I think you call them rutabagas). For seasoning soup besides salt and pepper I use bouquet Garni which is like a tea bag that contains several herbs. I make a lot of soup and chicken and vegetables is my favourite. It’s very handy for young people just starting out learning to make soup, to buy prepackaged vegetables to know what to put in the pot. I love the added flavour of the parsnip. Your videos are wonderful for teaching young ones how to cook.

I love watching you cook all your wonderful recipes!
Will the cookbook be available in print anytime in the future again or will it stay an e-book? I‘d love to have a „real“ book to cook with.

I make homemade noodles every year at Christmas and Thanksgiving well the past 2 years my granddaughter has started making them and it's always my favorite part of the meal. My recipe is a little different than yours but still egg noodles. Going to go make some soup now but I will have to make the noodles today the granddaughter is teaching school today. Have a blessed day.
