@own5938 He might, but he's going to have to pick up the pace by a lot, even with the snow, he needs to be averaging at least 25 -30 miles a day. I watched Quadzilla last year, and was blasting miles, even in the snow. When he finished the CDT, he was fighting the cold, snowy weather. Quadzilla basically walked around 20 hours a day often. When he was up North on the AT, he was post-holing up to his knees walking in the dark. He crushed miles on a daily basis on all three trails. I don't think he would have made it if he had averaged what this dude is averaging. But, we shall see; I would love to see him make it.
I have no opinion if he will make it, but other successful CYTC's have started in February. So you are 100% incorrect in your assumption. Its obvious the OP fuels his motivation with haters because he pinned your post. So perhaps you should continue pouring out the inaccuracies
Very cool about the Crows. My trail name is “Raven” they are very intelligent and worth listening to. I had one guide me all the way into Supai…he never left me until I was safely there. Hike on and stay safe. Sending good energy your way!
Your journey and triple 1’s is investing. You are doing it as fast as possible because you have two other very long adventures. He is planning in being the last person to end his AT journey this year. Both of yall are having fun and doing what you want.
You'll make better miles in many sections. Remember that even though you feel like you are slower than you need to be right now, the muscle you are building pushing through that snow will allow you to FLY when there is no snow. Really enjoying following your journey!
I love your videos and will continue to watch your journey! I hope you don't mind me sharing my own crow story. When I worked in the Oil Fields of Northern Alberta my crew found out I was afraid of birds. I had no beef with the bears or the wolves, but the crows freaked me out. So one day a smart ass decided to put some food on top of the salt box that was in front of the window, which was in front of my desk (we were in Seacans). So, of course a crow came down and ate the food and would continue to come back and poke his head in the window, of course I named him George. He started cawing if I wasn't at my desk, then he would walk me to my truck when I went out, would attack people who went near me and would always put himself between me and anyone else. My guys would call me up and tell me that George wouldn't stop cawing or attacking them and I would have to go back to base to calm him down. Got over my fear of birds though, he was a great 'pet'.
Hey Jaru✌️ Hope all is well. Truly love your videos and the genuineness in your vlogging. Also truly appreciate all you do to include us. Looking forward to more hikes with ya! Prayers that you’re still on trail for healthy and happy hiking🙏🤍
@@JaruWalksSounds like you’re doing AMAZING! So thankful to hear. Looking forward to hearing about all the adventure when you get the chance. Anytime someone can, hike and film AND edit, it just blows me away! Don’t know how you do it, but I’m thankful! With you all the way!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing Crows are the most amazing birds. Btw, they detest hawks and owls too and will react in the same way as you recorded.
You're so right about the pain, Pain which is just pain is not bad ( only blody boring) pain from worsening injury is bad. I guess almost everyone experiencibg chronic pain comes to that conclusion.
Enjoyed your snow hike with all the beautiful winter views. Thanks for making that Christmas tree smell come alive for your viewers! The winter NOBO scenes from the Smokes were awesome, in particular the undercast of clouds floating over the valleys. So different from the summer tree tunnel views, as you noted. Keep going!
When you get closer to Charlottesville Va if y’all need anything let me know. More than happy to provide a ride or set up trail magic if I’m off work. Up that way hiking all the time
So glad u posted again😀 been waiting nervously. Then 5 Stack posted an u where with him made me feel better. Love your trail talk. I am with you in spirit.
This has to be the best trail video I've watched. Really felt for you and along with you and so many interesting details. Though I think bears have more sense than wandering around in those temperatures and snow, unlike us humans eh? Hope the knee sorts itself out, but I did see 5stack's video so know you have kept going. Please keep posting, since watching you struggling up Katahdin, I've been looking forward to following your journey.
Thanks! Agreed, I haven’t seen any bear tracks. Sureee seems like somebody is too cozy footed to take the signs down in winter, but who knows… I will definitely keep hiking and posting! Just can take a minute on trail to get all the edits done to make the video as it should be. And 5 Stack is awesome! Should be hiking with him tomorrow.
Great Vlog, enjoying. Have chatted with 5Stack a few times and appreciated his mention of ur AZT video, as we are heading there in April for a section and have been doing research. Amazing footage! Altho hiking all that way back up the North Rim to get ur phone is true dedication to quality vlogging lol. If you have a suggestion for a great 4 day section there in April, would love to hear. We are heading to a wedding in Phoenix and attaching some Type 2 fun:) (we have 1900 miles done on AT so pretty experienced, Altho not in the desert. And cowboy camping is a hard no lol.) Keep it up- glad to help when you come through Maryland … in a blink lol.
Thanks! The high line trail section just north of pine is absolutely stunning, you drop off the mogollon rim into the low desert. If you can make it on a moonlit night, the walking among the desert plants in the moonlight is absolutely stunning; my favorite section. The pizza and diner in pine are great too, and the pub lets you camp in back and serve the azt beer. Down near phoenix, there is a town called Patagonia, there is a hiker hostel there that’s great, hiking south of Patagonia you hit the Sonoran desert, feels like Mexico, the bbq in Patagonia is the best I’ve personally ever had. You really can’t go wrong with any section!
Yep. Videoed crows after a bobcat on my AT thru hike last year. It was in NY and was so cool to see a bobcat. That was the first thing I thought of when I heard the crows.
I am SO looking forward to watching your ENTIRE journey! Have fun, state safe and if it gets too rough, stop. You come first, take your time and stay healthy.
I start my A.T. ThruHike next year on March 16th 2025 and I’m excited to follow along with your journey and hope to learn some stuff otw. You got this, I’m definitely a believer in just your energy
Hello again from the west coast. I am absolutely loving your videos! I could see the light of your spirit as you were describing the smell of the forest. Very cool. Hope your knee feels better. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi Jaru .My family and I met you on Friday morning near Pine Grove Furnace State Park . We will continue to follow you on this epic journey. Best of luck 🍀
Thanks for viedo and well done.. cool to see them fly over. U hear the sound and then they are gone. Yep. Crows are very smart. I hear they can Recognize a face for years. Those crows could have been driving a hawk away. Take care
As has been commented, was worried about you since it had been a while since your last update! I think going "slow" to start is the right move, pace will increase and night-hiking will be more viable as the season changes. I understand the desire to minimize the use of OTC pain meds, but they are anti-inflammatory and will actually allow you to heal more quickly if used properly.. Keep it up man!
Crows. The collective name for a group of crows is a "Murder of Crows". I've heard about that study and the intergenerational ability to recognise people and convey information about dangers and threats. Don't upset the crows on a through hike would be my advice, you're out there for a long time, and they will know your face (starts humming X Files music).
Haha, he has his own hiking philosophy. From what I see he preps to mitigate all risks, even small ones. Technically, there have been bear mauls and lethal attacks on humans in the Smokies, so the canister might be technically justifiable to some. It is not required anywhere on the AT. I calculated the risks my own way and prefer to take my chances that one.
(RN here) Hopefully by now, your hands are feeling better. But if they're still bothering you, I'd suggest getting a steroid cream in your next resupply. Or at least a benadryl cream if steroids aren't available.
Thank you, my hands are fully cleared up as of now. But this happens to me like once every couple of years and I never knew to try that. If this happens again, I will 100% give that a try. Thank you!!!
Saturday, February 24th: No headlamp? I must have missed something. Since when is a headlamp a luxury accessory? Well, you do you. HYOH. I once met a runner who ran a marathon in clogs. When asked "Why?" The runner replied "Why not?" I will send you a headlamp if you will provide an address in your future. Good luck! Happy Trails! Ross08
If you don't watch this video carefully you might think that headlamps and water treatment are luxury items. But really it's just mistakes that happened as he goes along. 😅😮
I have to say something. I know you’re not familiar with Tennessee and the Great Smokie Mountains National Park, but I have to tell you that the GSMNP is the #1 NPS Visited in all of the National Parks! It’s because of the Beauty of the Park and its mountains and people! You don’t see people running to Maine, New Hampshire, Utah, California, Washington to see the Best of the Best!! GSMNP is “The Best” National Park there is of all the 63 Designated National Parks! Is been #1 for a reason no matter what you or others think! The GSMNP is very easily accessible and very beautiful! I’d rather be in the Smokies and see that beauty than see the desert of Utah, California and Arizona! The desert is so plain and simple! No beauty there for me at all. So as you see, we have different opinions about different parts of the country. But, that’s fine, that’s what makes us so different and makes life so Great!! So I just wanted to to know why the GSMNP is the #1 visited NP in the U.S.!! Also to answer a question you had about the Smokies: The name "Smoky" comes from the natural fog that often hangs over the range and presents as large smoke plumes from a distance. So hope this helps with providing you with some knowledge of the GSMNP!! Happy Trails!!! 😊
Haha, I appreciate your passion and your information. I just had to get far enough in before I could appreciate it. I also met three groups of locals from Tennessee who conveyed similar love and enthusiasm for the park, which gave me a personal connection to it. I think most of my complaints were more directed at the weather and facilities, but so far the Smokies are my favorite part of the AT by far.
Hey I’ve been to GSM. 3 times now. To say you’d rather see GSM then deserts doesn’t sound very fair unless you go to see what those parks have to offer. I just went this year ( from Va) to Joshua Tree NP. Which is a desert park. There are many beautiful things in each different park and I’d say you’re cutting yourself short if you didn’t visit them. Yellowstone is an AMAZING park. I’d pick Yellowstone over GSM any day. I do love and have enjoyed GSM. As well. It has beauty as all National parks. I also spend 2 days a week in Shenandoah NP. Even though it isn’t large like GSM. It too has much beauty waiting to be discovered. Out of the 7 NP’S I myself have visited I 100% believe they each have something amazing to give to those who visit them.
No chance this guy makes a tripple crown he should have started Jan first he’s two months behind I wish him luck tho
I bet you are so wrong he will make it
