I don't see any challenge in doing that stuff, it's very artificial to set these fake goals in order to make it feel like you have done something special. It's not special, it's just walking. It's extreme privilege to be able to even do this. The real challenge waits in the real world, making money, driving a truck, being a nurse, showing up day after day in a place you don't want to be. Especially when you live somewhere where money does not flow as easy as in the US and you don't have a job with good payment to fall back to. Nothing about this is a challenge, it's leisure time. The only thing that makes it challenging is because most people today are overweight and don't walk anymore or work on their feet, they rather sit all day. But even these people adjust. The most hiked woman in the world says she is overweight, never did any sports and has two flat feet but yet she is the most hiked woman. People in amazon Wearhouse walk 30+ Miles a day. Further for many people going out is too much of an escape without ever facing yourself. Taking all this titles and ideology and applying them to hiking is what hiking should not be about. It shouldn't be about telling someone i hiked the PCT or i am a triple Crowner. It should be what happens in between, things you won't find in a title.

@@lenoredisman3192 There are thousands of people who have been living in tents in Denver all winter after hiking from SA to the border. So happy to see your video today! You are by far my fav to watch. Cheering you on every step! Killer trees lawyer voice was great, totally cracked me up. Your doing awesome job. I've been following right along ...I also follow 5 stack.. you have pushed through a lot of trail challenges and overcome them..I have so much faith in you from the first time watching. Wishing you the best of trails and blessings to abound😊😊😊

Stay safe and Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. 🤗
For what it’s worth, I met two 69 year old ladies thru hiking the Arizona trail, so late 50’s is not too late at all. Just important to start out slow and keep listening to your body so that it keeps telling you to go. Thanks!
Great video and so much contrast. Have to say you were looking a bit manic at one point, a bit "wild man of the woods". Got the feeling desperation was getting a bit too close, be careful not to follow that downward spiral. Then the hysterical and absurd interlude of the court trial, "the state versus the KILLER TREES" (could be a cool trail name BTW, singular "Killer Tree". That would be sure to put any fellow hikers you meet at ease...and keep the nutters complaining about noise in their place). Finally a joyful meeting of two of the most genuine and funny/witty people on the AT. Such a shame your hiking goals are so different that the pace/milage don't and cannot match up. A person who can turn around their mood/outlook when something strikes them as amusing, or allowing a chance meeting to lift the spirits, can succeed at anything.
Correctly observed, but I will also push back to say you really can’t expect a person to maintain strong composure at all times when they are living outside in winter and hiking just under a marathon a day for two months now. Hope I don’t sound like an ass, I’m glad you liked the video and your advice is noted!
Nightshift, It was a pleasure meeting you at Ensign Cowall, we will be cheering on your journey! Keep on trucking, and all the best to you. -Peter, Strags and Wayster
Aquaman did a winter SOBO last year, and he did start at Katahdin. The worst for him was here in Vermont where he experienced freezing rain the last 100 miles of Vermont. Quadzilla pushed so fast NOBO on AT of CYTC last year, that he had to wait until after PCT to summit Katahdin because Baxter closed it.
I actually read aquaman’s journal before I attempted the winter sobo. I followed his exact same route up. He made it further up than I did on Katahdin, to the treeline, but also had to turn around before the summit due to whiteout conditions, that’s why I said nobody’s made it to the summit to my knowledge. Still, less people have winter sobo’d the AT than CYTC’d, aquaman is a beast. I also think Quadzilla had the most impressive CYTC to date, the permit at katahdin got him, but he did not break the continuous footpath anywhere else to my knowledge.
@@JaruWalks…and like you said, You “attempted it.” That is now a fantastic learning reference to build on, grow from, and apply to all future challenges.
Hiking more miles is simply hiking longer hours per day. Proper food and calories will be the key to doing it consistently and keeping energy levels sufficient.
17:28 brings this to mind…Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it…
Great to see an update! Hopefully the weather is getting a little better, but we just went through a cold snap here in central Pa. Take care of yourself and be safe out there!
Don’t sweat your mileage to much on the AT. You can make up some time on the flats of the CDT as long as the snow is not to bad in the mountains. I wish you the best of luck. You are doing what I have been dreaming about. Can’t wait till it’s my turn. ✌️
Last time I got glimpse of you I believe you with 5Stack in Grayson highlands area. Which was about first part of March maybe? Good luck with your quest.
Thanks! This is week 4, so this is from around February 25th or so. I’m taking a zero today to hopefully catch up on editing. Trying to get it to where I’m posting more current to where I am since that’s more fun to watch.
Even if you could access a doctor near the trail, you would probably be told to rest up. If you want to achieve the three trails in a calendar year then you can't afford to stop for a week or more. It's probably best to try to do some slack packing if you can for a few days if feasible. Lightening your pack weight will help you get a higher mileage each day whilst still giving your knee a bit less strain each day. You need to avoid long term damage though. Tricky compromise. That's why three in a year isn't done by many people each year.
Love the videos. Just need to work on your outros. I'm just kidding. It's hard enough hiking, never mind editing, managing batteries. But im a bit selfish. I need more content, please, and thank you.
