I dont think Bernie could play this one and sing. I saw the PiL/Sugarcubes and it was primarily electronic and disappointed that they were not as urgent as the early days. Brotherhood had a few good ones, but Lowlife was where I fell off. Low life is the name of a current band you all should check out.
@turntablecafe it isn’t a six string bass, it’s just a guitar. Hook played guitar and Sumner bass on some Joy Division tracks, for example The Sound Of Music and Atrocity Exhibition.
I was at the show too. Very hot night. See Hooky's book. New Order didn't hit the stage until about 1 a.m. The heat caused equipment malfunctions. They played two old JD songs at the end because of the equipment breakdowns. Great to hear it here.
I'll never forget going to Wax Trax to buy that beautiful. almost postcard size ticket: silver reflective face with black lettering. Shanahan still to this day has a stack of them in his vault/safe at Metro....a friend who went to the show asked for his back; bastard just laughed.
I got goose bumps and smiles reading the "liner notes" as a BIG fan of New Order. I first saw them in 1985 at the Flet Forum in NYC from Connecticut. Low-Life remains their final great triumph. A Certain Ratio opened and taunted the crowd screaming "USA sucks", and maybe something about the Russians. Things were thrown at them. When New Order played it was a quick but great set. They were reluctant to do an encore. The lights were on, people had left and they came out and played one song on the aforementioned new album. They fi is held quickly, either Hooky or Barney put their instruments next toa speaker and the feedback drive the remaining fans out of the venue. Now, being a huge fan, I had read books on them and the earlier Rolling Stone article and knew what to expect. Theater. Saw them twice for Brotherhood and finally technique but they were not as good. For the latter album, the sugarcubes and PIL were better, no doubt. It's a fucking shame they can't let the egos go and just get o. with Hooky coming back. There is no New Order without him, word.
I was at the Felt Forum show too. Great show. Tinnitus for days after though. A Certain Ratio, the opening act got no applause until they announced they were playing their last song. The crowd erupted in applause which angered them. Then they went on their anti-USA rant and got booed etc off stage.
Love how you can hear on Your Silent Face with all the background stuff not playing how HUGE Gillian's contributions really were

playing confusion in a confusing way

Pretty incredible that you were actually there, you must have done something good in your life. Yeah in Substance Hooky says it was 118 in there.
I wish New order still sounded like this
Photo taken during Confusion (Bernard on bass)
Was this photo actually taken at the Metro do you know?
Nice work.

I was at this concert and do believe A Certain Ratio was the opener..
Same tour in New York it was Quando Quango. They toured with A Certain Ratio on the next US tour maybe?
Oh October 2021 can't get here soon enough!
I saw the same show in hollywood at the Florentine gardens no did not get on stage until 2.00am
I was at this show. There was steam on the bathroom windows it was so hot
Yep....was also there. I'll never forget Hook'y yelling 'You think you're hot..!!!'.

Yeah - without Hooky, they're the Diet Coke of New Order.
Quinn, I was at the Felt Forum gig as well. They came back there a year later in late 1986.

and I love the tissues!
Woah. Is Flaamingos still a going concern? Remembered you guys covering NO. Did catch Tissues when they played El Rio up in SF a couple months back.
Flaamingos is dead RIP. Deaf Dance is my new project in a similar vein (me on vocals :D ) ruclips.net/video/Xv0DDmR9bqI/видео.html
oh yeah, have heard Deaf Dance played on the Part Time Punks show, "Broken Mirrors" is for me your standout track. Kudos to you and Hannah!
Too bad they are not coming back anytime soon.
