Owned the first tablet S since it came out. NOT ONE problem. Works like a champ.
This tablet is great. The water resistance part is a major selling point. Now I don't have to worry about reading near the pool again, or better yet, in it!
Sony has got a winner with the water resistant feature. No other company does it. And because of Sony we would see this technology being implemented in future tech gadgets. Thanks Sony.
For everyone who says sony doesn't support their OS with updates. I have to disagree. Granted they take FOREVER to come, but when they do it's amazing! They make changes to the UI and the background process. Unlike samsung or LG which update frequently and make updates to the background process, you notice no changes (ICS to JB) I've owned both and I can honestly tell you, if you don't mind hte wait, Sony delivers amazing updates that you will notice and feel.
Just unveiled? Its been out in Japan for a long time already....
At least its coming to the U.S finally! Will definitely be checking this one out! :)

I think good idea for water resist but I rater have a camera flash, gorilla glass screen, and a full size SD card but looks to be a cool tablet

A screen is more than just pixel densities and both the tablet z and ipad have hd displays, when I said "which the tablet z equals" it may be improper wording or something, but I meant that the displays overall are equal not in pixel density.
it is a apt comparison if you think about it, a high mp camera will take sharper shots like a high ppi display will show sharper images. Both don't account for things like colour and quality. which a iPhone will have over the xperia t camera and the tablet z will have over the ipad 4. Whether you prefer a sharper image to a better quality/coloured image is completely your choice. Which is why I said the ipad 4 and tablet z displays are equal.

i think they should start at 399 for the 32gb model and 499 for the 64gb model that would be really competitive

The whole Z lineup got me really excited with its water resistant feature! I already made up my mind to get the Xperia Z to replace my Galaxy S2 because looks like it will stand anything you trow at.
Implementation of the Bravia Engine in mobile devices looks promising because its something thats been proven to work already.
But whats the Android version in it? Jelly Bean? And if not would it be possible to easily upgrade later on?

Metroid Z, Dragonball Z, Day Z, War Z, Tablet Z... I begin to see a pattern here.
Sony might not support their older products. However google supports their nexus devices rather well. So you can still the better android experience and better hardware, with knowledge that it will be supported by software updates in the future.

it should still have DLNA. most Sony phones with NFC still have DLNA features.
Screen pixels vs sensor pixels is not the same thing. On the sensor is the other way around, if you cram more pixels on a small sensor the image would be crappy, the biggest sensor you have the most light will hit the sensor and result in better quality. On the screen light is not a factor, a better PPI would result better quality up to the point the eye can't distinguish individual pixels... that's why is called retina. You could have 5000ppi but your eye can't distinguish pass a threshold .

Two things it has that the ' I wanted so much nexus 10" doesn't have is better then iPad resolution/color AND a microSD slot...I will watch this and other video's plus read up more uintil its release-just to see if there are any details that will detract from investing over $500 USD.

Better colour reproduction it means more a colourful display, which by your reasoning (which is fine) regular consumers would prefer it to the iPad's display. And even if you prefer a retina level + ppi density over colours, it may not be what everyone prefers. In fact it matters less (not that it doesn't matter like you said) than a smartphone because the viewing distance is larger for a tablet.
Its debatable really which is why I said the displays are equal.
I hope the viewing angles are better than the Z smartphone.

did you recognized what happend with sony in the past? Sony start in 2013 completly new. They concentrate on their products very well so I don't think that they won't deliver any update to this tablet ;) You already can see it that android 4.2 ist planned to release in two or three months.
Could we just agree to disagree and call it quits and let the sales decide who is right, if Sony won't be to embarrassed to post the sales figures. Who knows maybe they listen and lower the price, then would be a good alternative to the iPad.
I haven't denied that has more color reproduction. In my mind (and in the mid of a regular consumer) you can't cover for the lack of PPI with ANYTHING. Retina level PPI has a beauty that can't be matched with anything you through at it. Accuracy is not beauty, the regular consumer prefers overexposed popping colors that look gorgeous to the eye. If you're not a photographer is don't need color accuracy, you need the screen to look good to you for entertainment, that's the primary tablet role.
Apple share price was $705 but is $430 today haha. And yet the iZombies still comment on other products. This Tablet Z is way better than iDrone, same old OS etc. Hence the massive drop in share price, the competition has better products at better prices.

All of you might want to visit the Sony Forums and see how things are going for the Xperia Tablet S owners, before you jump all over this tablet. Not trying to rain on your parade, but Sony's total lack of support for their previous 2 failures, should sound a warning bell to future customers. Doesn't matter how great the hardware, support is essential, especially when Sony locks down the boot loader, preventing you from rooting ! Good Luck what ever your decision! Again check Sony forums !

Betters Sales doesn't mean a better product only because marketing does not make a product better. And it is cheaper storage wise since for the 16 gb model has a sd card slot up to 64 gigs, meaning it will be cheaper than a 64 gig iPad. Not to mention it has a better design, thinner, lighter, better audio quality and water proof.
The tablet z is a better tablet, but whether the consumer perceives the ipad as a better product is another matter entirely.

actually he's kinda right a 13 mp camera may not make better pictures than a 8mp camera, a bigger picture most certainly but not necessarily higher quality. If what you say is true than the xperia t will have better pic than the iPhone 5 which it doesn't really.

Same thing with displays, retina IS a marketing term lol. remember the iphone 4? and its "retina display", now is crappy compared to other smartphones. What apple fails to mention is the viewing distance and any display could be retina at a long viewing distance is far. Which is why tvs has a low ppi. The thing is people can distinguish higher pixel densities look at the 4k t.v reviews or the 1080p smartphone reviews.
You can easily see that Sony is serious about it, because they put a Z on it.

Color reproduction is just marketing speak for "we know we suck at matching ipad, we just have to spin it to not be totally crushed". If was a cheaper tablet I would totally understand why they picked this screen, but to go against the iPad like this is a suicide mission.
My last two Sony tablets had a problem with the wifi not working all the time.
I called Sony and was told this is not a problem with the tablets but with Android. It got so bad i had to send it it to have it in. Sony just replaced my problem wifi tablet with a new sony tablet. same wifi problem.If you look on Sony web site for tablet S WIFI problem you will see a list of people that have this problem. I will nevef have a sony tablet again.

To be honest, nexus 10 is one of the best.. I prefer Android OS, file transfer is simple compare to IOS and less limitations. we buy these gadgets therefore we're in control, not the other way around. open source is better. Android is Democracy!!! :)
