Omg that thumbnail!
Generating a second sun was NOT easy.
Agreed! Well done!
Lovely
@@Iliketomakestuff how did you get the second sun 🌄
@@monaglewoodcrafts he travaled to a galaxy far, far away of course.
and yeah - when i saw the thumbnail my starwars-fanboy-heart immediately skipped a beat.
Tries to measure: "something is wrong with me"... I felt that 🤣
Build looks awesome, congrats on finishing (for now)!
lol
You guys really have to much time... commenting on youtube. tss! Hush, hush - get your new house done!
btw: Love you guys.
Try the metric system, so much easier and foolproof!
@@manuelprenzlow7652 They just won't listen ;-)
Big props for finishing such a daunting and large project. Coming from the perspective of mostly working on 2-3 week projects, this is very inspirational! Too bad the YT algo is such a dingbat about multiparters. Thanks for sharing the journey Bob & team!
Skjera Bagera!
Ha! As a not native English speaker, I thank for you for teaching me a new term, dingbat! Lmao.
3:09 So glad to see Clamp Champ in this video. I realized that I hadn't seen mention of this for a while when watching a recent video.
Hey Bob/gang. Been enjoying your channel for years now. Never commented. But I felt I needed to tell you how impressed I am with your accomplishment. I’m a bit older than you guys. I actually saw the first Star Wars in the theater as a boy. It’s an amazing memory I share with so many others. I thank you for making me feel like a kid again with this series. It’s almost like seeing an old friend again. Not much makes me smile anymore. I’m not unhappy, just a mellow dude! But when one of those movies begins with that John Williams fanfare music, that smile shows up again. You just did the same. So, thanks once again. Oh, and Josh, nice “Wilhelm” scream effect with the clamp graphics. Perfect touch. 😁. Troy
I know you said this would probably be the last video of R2 but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like an update on any upgrades even if it's a year or so down the road. Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite projects to date. Serious effort and skill was put into this one. Good job! Inspiring me to be a better dad. Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
This was the project that got me hooked to your channel
Turns out this is the droid I was looking for. It's been a long haul, but worth the wait for every step. Congrats on bringing everybody's favorite droid to life. Thanks for sharing!
You beat me to the punchline! 😁
Congrats Bob on finishing the droid we all are looking for! 👍👍
ARTOO! This is so exciting. Great work Bob!
Looking forward to the R2-D2 taser installation video in the future. 😉
So happy to see this one pop up! I'll be the guy to ask the tacky question. Do you have a rough estimate of how much you spent on the build? I know it'll be hard to figure out exactly on something like this but If I was going to build one, how much would you estimate it to cost?
I stopped keeping tally of the cost after I hit $5,000
@@Iliketomakestuff worth every penny! Thank you sir!
I bet the time estimate is out of this world...(see what I did there?)
@@Iliketomakestuff mine was close to $9k (all aluminum) Worth every penny!
@@Iliketomakestuff does that include operating costs?
As a star wars nerd and an iltms fan I’m really happy to see him alive lol, Amazing work Bob, greetings from Baghdad, Iraq
Me too! Hello from America!
I know its silly, the whole thing is amazing..but the usb port is my personnal favorite thing on this project. Imagine having an R2 unit plugged into your computer ! Unbelievable
It really is!
Hey R2- Recharge my phone
@@Iliketomakestuff Just don't put one of those arms on your R2 that allows it to hack your computer. R2 does that all the time, haha!
@@linsen8890 imagine if the arm came out saw where the USB was and plugged itself in
At last! Looking forward to seeing your car project Bob!
You and me both!
@@Iliketomakestuff Now that you have an extra trunk door for the car, you NEED to make a hole to fit R2D2 there, like the X-Wing. PLEASE!
Congrats on finishing this guy, what a beauty! Also love the outtakes, the glue making sounds are very relatable.
It’s rare to watch a video and just be so happy for someone. Congrats on “finishing” R2; it’s been great to watch and listen in the pods
It's amazing how a long time ago, in this galaxy, a bunch of guys got together and figured out how to build R2 from scratch. Nice work!
YAY!! Finally done. Now you have to add his periscope so you can put in a camera to look over the window ledge and scare the cat. 😹
A true labour of love and what a result!
Bob, You inspire all of us who watch your videos. I wish I still had nimble fingers to work on projects like these. I enjoy all of the videos you share.
Thank you! Felix
Bob, this is awsome! While watching I came up with an idea if you wanted to add some practical functionality to R2: a big battery pack/powerbank inside his belly so you can charge some tools outside or something:)
I'm a touch behind on the podcast but I was just listening to 281 where you were talking about the feet being loose. It came out great, long road for sure. Thanks for taking us along.
He turned out amazing!! From one R2 Builder to another, fantastic job.
Awesome, thank you!
Oh my god that thumbnails is amazing!!! Congrats Bob!!
Congratulations Bob! That has got to be a sign of relief.
This was so fun to see. It’s been a labor of love and it has to be cool to be at a place where R2 is “done”. Congrats on completing this. So glad you shared it with us too.
Absolutely amazing. Great Job Bob!
great job indeed. also look forward to see your car project. new challenge!
You and me both!
Awesome truly awesome
Thank you!
@@Iliketomakestuff you're a true talent don't ever stop doing what you're doing.
That came out GREAT! I still wish you could keep adding things to R2, because it's such a great-looking project
5:50 Man .. if there just was a measuring system in which calculating the middle would be easy. Hmm
It's called the halftric system, I'm taking night classes.
Wow. Amazing dedication. Also, something that helped me was you being honest about sometimes having to do things twice to get it the way you want it. Thanks.
Beautiful job! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! that must've taken quite a bit of planning and bringing all sorts of crafting and science together in one piece! quite a feat. Nicely done.
Thank you Bob, you always inspire me. The way you explain things has really helped me when I am training apprentices in my job (electrical/instrumentation). Thank you so much for doing a final video on this project! Keep up the good work, you are helping people in more ways than you think.
Momentous day! It's been a long journey but I'm glad R2 is finally here.
Thanks, me too!
YES! You know the mantra - it'll never be "finished..." I already have an R6 Astromech but your build inspired me to make an R2-style. Can't wait to see more!
Amazing! The Force, definitively, is with you!
I love it 👍🏽 I am in the process of 3D printing my R2D2. Keep up the awesome videos
I know you say that these videos always do poorly, but they are the best! Thanks for all the insight.
I'm so chuffed for you O-Bob-wan Klag-nobi, well done for setting a property finish line and hitting it. It's been a hell of a journey with that droid.
Crazy great build! Thanks for sharing!
Coolest show and tell EVER!
Wow! That is one well behaving droid.
It's amazing. I look at a pile of parts you've put together and switched on, and he immediately looks and feels alive to me. 👏🤩
OMG! Super detailed aesthetic finish and exacting placement for mechanics!
Bob this is amazing such a labor of love. It turned out beautiful and you should be so proud.
Congratulations on finishing it up.
Oh that’s inspiring! I hope same day to build Corran’s R2 Whistler. Great job dude!
I’ve had a bad week but this video was great and made me laugh. I appreciate your honesty when you encounter an issue that you aren’t sure on how to execute. Great work!
Hope next week is better, Mike!
He's so clean! Awesome job.
This is beyond cool! Thanks for sharing.
"Hi, I'm Bob-- and I'm ruining everyone's Halloween forever."
"But daaaad! I don't wanna be Han Solo again!"
"Yeah but... But like the... The R2-D2 I made... And we can dress up the puppy like Chewie!"
"Ugh, fine..."
In other news: this thing is DOPE.
Years of hard work turn out amazing! 🤩😍
Amazing Mr. Bob. I like your videos. All the best for your next project.
WOOOOOWWW! I JUST NOTICED YOU'VE HIT 3MIL PLUS!!!!
CONGRATS! - Been here since the early thousands of subs 😂😌
Very cool project. Thanks for sharing the journey and being an inspiration.
Can't wait to see your BB-8! 😁
Man that is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing!
His Neighbors: "Hey Bob, what you doing?" Bob: "Oh, just taking my droid for a walk."
Lol
🤣🤣🤣 that was funny
Awesome! Would love to see a future video about the improvements though!
Seeing it go is freaking MAGICAL! incredibly ambitious project to take on AND turn into videos. Amazing work!
Couldn't agree more!
So happy to see the lathe make a contribution to the build! Congrats on "completing" the build. You did it!
very cool! not "my cuppa" all this type of work, but watching you do this: great!
Congrats Bob!! That was an intense project and I'm so pumped to see it complete. No more droid cloud looming over your shoulder, that must be an amazing feeling :D
The perfect way to start my morning!
We'd totally watch an update video in the future if you did one to show any upgrades and the reactions from people at con's if you take him out and about.
I appreciate how this video shows that it is possible to come back to projects that haven’t progressed in a while. I bought a 3D printer kit five years ago from my local makerspace, and it has been daunting to resume.
SO cool!! It’s been fun watching you build this and I know I’m not the only one who’s jealous of your R2. Great work!
So happy to see him driving around! This was what brought me to your channel ages ago, and I've seen almost all your videos since. Looking forward to the new project car restoration and more home improvement videos as I'd like to do that in the future.. just need similar amount of tools haha. Thank you for doing this project!
Yay he’s maybe finished if not almost finished droid. Also I love the thumbnail ILTMS.
He's finished enough for video content.
That’s good to hear
I love this project, that being said, it would be super cool to replace that power switch with some kind of magnetic switch, and have a magnet inside a restraining bolt, so you would remove the restraining bolt and that would turn him on.
That's not a bad idea!
Inspirational! I create wild things, but only for looks, because none of them really work. I would love to do something like this, but man….such a project! I’ve followed this particular build from the beginning, and you have done an amazing job! Kudos!
Fantastic work! Looking amazing.
Great attention to detail! the thumbnail its on point too, unbeatable result! Thanks for sharing the whole process, very inspiring.
That brass hose sheathing was really cool to see. Its like a giant shiny chinese finger trap!
Way to go Bob! He looks beautiful! And you're right, you're never really finished with R2-D2. I keep telling myself I am going to add movement to all of the front panels on mine but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Someday.
It's a lot of work
absolutely incredible!!
Congratulations, that is Awesome!!!!
Congratulations. This was a great series and you should be really proud of the outcome. R2 lives on!
Great project. I remember when first started it. Thank you for keeping us updated.
I love my R2 I built and like you said you never stop working on it really and so since it's working and rolling, I started a Chopper build as my next one.
Good looking droid you got there.
Great build, Bob! Man, what an adventure.
I imagine at some point you could just retire and book your R2 for events and birthday parties, right? Get that Jabba's barge platter attachment and rent this out for droid event catering.
It looks so, so great!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
OMG so excited to see this and so happy for you and this milestone!!! glad you took Jimmy's advice for the thumbnail pic.
What was his advice?
@@forby_ it was on the Making it podcast and Jimmy mentioned where it would be a great/funny shot of Bob and R2 walking off in the sunset when he finished the build. BTW you do great work on the ILTMS team they are lucky to have you..... Keep it up!!!
@@michaelpotase Oh nice! It was unintentional but that's awesome that it's the same! I was also searching the podcast for Jimmy's R2 sounds to use here but couldn't find them in time. Thanks!
Dude!!! Awesome work!!! Worth all the effort on this project
Hooooooo woooaaaaaoooow!!!!! R2!!!! I love it!!!!! My unit next to this beast look like a baby, my R2 is small haha but i love it too!! Man you do a really great work, not gonna lie, that's amazing!!🤩🤩
Fantastic job Bob
Congrats, Bob!
So happy to see him come together! I never got my R2 mobile, he just sits by my desk making blinking lights.. But I'll get to it eventually. I just received my slip ring and dome motor not so long ago so I want to program some "random" movements through that with arduino.
Last summer I made myself a Han in Carbonite, definitely a fun project you could do, lots of wood working, some electronics.. much simpler than R2 but SO rewarding.
Can't think of anything creative so here's my comment
Also well done it looks so coool
Thanks!
Can’t wait to see when you add the rocket capabilities
Congratulations! I’m finally starting mine and these videos have been soooo helpful!
A friend of mine is going setting up a magnetic switch to cut power to the feet. He is going to place the magnet in a droid restraining bolt. So if the bolt is not on the droid, it can't drive. This will allow the head to spin and sounds will sitting still at conventions.
Really Cool! Congratulations!! I Don't Know If This Has Come Up Before.. But You Could Make The Controller As Part Of A Lightsaber!
Possible additions,
1) Empire Strikes Back antenna from Hoth before the doors closed.
2) Return of the Jedi Lukes lightsaber.
3) Maybe R2 fire extinguisher
4) A 3PO for him to drag around lol
Wow thats awesome! I love it!
Yay! This is amazing. I won’t be mad at you if you make any videos about mods you make to him in the future.
Absolutely amazing work brother.
GREAT job 👍👍
Currently up to my eyeballs building a house, but once that is done I am really looking forward to building a "teaching machine". It'll basically just be a podium on wheels with built-in speakers... But this gave me some ideas for "enhancements". Thanks Bob!
Amazing simply amazing!!
Keep up the great work!! 🙌👍
Great to see it finaly finished :) its awesome!
