  • Making mountain bike videos has been frustrating for a long time. POV footage is boring, shaky videos are hard to watch, and drones are bulky to carry on the trail and are tricky to fly. The HoverAir X1 is designed to make it easier to capture drone footage on the trail thanks to simple preset flight patterns along with a portable and rugged design.
In this video review we'll share a ton of clips filmed with the camera drone, talk about how it works, and go through the pros and cons.
    PROS
    - Simple to control
    - Lightweight and portable
    - Good stabilization and brightness
    - Flies anywhere, including indoors and on trails
    CONS
    - Limited speed and height
    - No microphone and it is loud
    - Will only focus on a person

Yes, you can manually fly X1 to take videos of your surroundings. You need to use your phone and the included app to fly it manually.
There's no drone that records sounds from the drone itself because of the prop and motor noise, X1 included. But X1 has an excellent AI based noise cancellation system that when linked up to an external mic/smartphone, the X1 app can download the sounds recorded and automatically sync up with the video - please check it out before commenting about sound recordings on this drone.

With the updated firmware (I believe it was 7.1.0) you can now switch from pre-programed flight modes to manual mode on the fly. Pretty cool

Thanks for these detailed instructions. I've had the Hover Air X for a week and I'm thrilled! The automatic modes are easy to understand and absolutely sufficient. The remote control in the app also makes it possible to film without focusing on a person. With a little practice you can also mix movements; for example: sideways rotation with upward movement of the drone.

Love the review! I’m still waiting for them to be released for sale in Australia so I can buy one.

Nice review. Others have already mentioned that free flight is possible with the app. I’ll just add that I’m pretty sure flight time tops out at 20kph.
I’ve really enjoyed mine, and despite (or perhaps because of) its limitations, it is absolutely perfect for getting drone footage when solo, or other times when a traditional drone with a controller is just not workable. The light weight makes it an absolute no-brainer to throw in a pack for grabbing some b-roll, so that’s exactly what I do!

Thank you for investing your time, do you know if this will follow you while in Birds Eye mode, and you mentioned the battery time frame is around 10 minutes? Any idea how long it takes to recharge?

No it will not. Will only follow you in Follow mode. Birdseye goes straight up then back down.

Hey thank you for your review, do you think that it will work for home tours?

I saw a RUclips channel "showing Austin" or something like that where someone is using the Hoverair for home walkthroughs

So many comments were just incorrect about this.

Thanks for the feedback. As many have pointed out, it is indeed possible to manually pilot the HoverAir X1. However, in this reviewer's experience the ability to do so is not readily apparent within the app or based on the online instructions.Clearly this drone is aimed at more casual users who will prefer to stick with the stock flying modes anyway.

I saw elsewhere theres a firmware update for vertical filming for aocial nedia like tiktok/douyin/instagram. Does it knock the quality down in this mode, or, for the purposes of these platforms, its fine?
Ps. Is your video not playing at the correct frame rate? Its all juggery. Did YT do this to it?

Yes, the X1 should now support vertical filming, thought I didn't test this. Not sure about the frame rate; the video resolution of the X1 clips was downsampled to fit with the rest of the video footage. Specifically, I believe the overall video is only 720p.
