Another food video would be cool and maybe add to it phrases like "I'm allergic to ----" with some common foods people are allergic to like peanuts. Or "I don't eat meat/ I am a vegetarian". It would also be interesting to have one just about names for meat, and if they are different than the word for the animal like it sometimes is in english.
hi Emma! I wonder why American food = Mei guo fan(美國飯) in My opinion, American food=Mei guo cai(美國菜) because the word "fan" in Chinese means rice, meal and the word "cai" means food for example: Chinese food=zhong guo cai(中國菜),Japanese food=Riben cai(日本菜),Vietnamese food=YueNan cai(越南菜)and so on. if im wrong.can u explain to me know pls? thanks!
It's a good question, but much of the answer comes down to speaking customs. Even though one way may be more 'correct' literally, it can sometimes be more awkward. As an example, in the Korean language, it is a similar situation. You could say 식사 (shiksa) for 'meal', and it is literally correct. But much of the time people will just say 밥 (bab), which means 'rice', just like with Chinese. It's sometimes just because of habit, and sometimes just easier to say it that way. One other example: dog food is usually called 개밥. This literally means 'dog rice'. These days, most people don't just feed rice to their dog (although many still do), but will feed it actual dog food that is made for dogs. Yet people still call it dog rice 😀. I hope that answer helps make more sense for you.
really good video, thank you very much! I would like to see/hear more general words, such as adjectives and verbs, so we can practice to create sentences by ourselves and understand your sentences all together.
can you do a lesson on chinese cooking ingredients? There is no one on youtube with this lesson. The staff in chinese markets don't know much english so it would be nice to know those. Thank you!
hi emma i am from brazil and i really enjoy your classes and i am going to share all the videos that you have uploaded on the internet. please if it's possible place more videos so that i can improve my mandarin skills. thank you very much.
Amazing effort to design language course. Cant tell how much I admire your ancestors to create classical characters from nature. #Vesak2015IntroductionClassicalChinese
Hi emma, Would u do me a favor? actually, I want to write Chinese Pinyin with its strokes together with Chinese Characters. I can't find anywhere. HOpe u can share your experience.
Your video's are excellent. Clear, concise, understandable. I would enjoy it if you did an episode about "making plans". Things like "Do you want to a movie this weekend, or out for live music". Thanks again.

Emma, thank you for another helpful video. I am heading out to the Chinese restaurant tomorrow for my birthday dinner, more informed than ever - thanks to you. The Chinese language is truly beautiful with all of its tones and repeated syllables, particularly in so many of the female names for example. Keep up the hard work, friend, and God bless you!
This one is helpful! Thank you!! Can you teach about getting a haircut? I always get my hair cut at a Taiwanese salon, and I would love to explain how I want it cut, all in mandarin.
If you could do a video in the future regarding restaurant language (e.g. how to order food, and other key phrases used in a restaurant), I would greatly appreciate that. Nevertheless, this is a very good video. Thanks!
No different than "Hamburger"... In it's direct translation, it wouldn't make much sense if you just called it "Ham".... and leave off of the "Burger" portion. It's just a way, Chinese concludes their words.
mi = is a caterlogue word which means grain, cereal, corn. rice means da mi, when people use da mi (rice),they usually means raw rice, but when they are being asked what they have eaten, they usually respond with " mi fan" or " da mi fan"so fan means food after cooked, mi fan, then means = cooked rice! mi fan is being spoken simplified from da mi fan. Hopefully the explanation can be helpful for you! Good luck in learning Chinese, 加油!
Thank you so much for your support! I am glad that you like my videos! Please stay tuned for more videos! :)

Another way to say it is "美国餐“,”中餐“

No different than "Hamburger"... In it's direct translation, it wouldn't make much sense if you just called it "Ham".... and leave off of the "Burger" portion. It's just a way, Chinese concludes their words.
GiftofPower I like your style. Nicely articulated. :)
