Great lesson, Emma! We're using your videos to help my children practice what they learn from their Mandarin class. I'm using it to learn Mandarin myself. Keep the videos coming and God bless!
In Chinese language there are some exceptions. If you talk about relatives or close friends, you never use "de", just "wo mama", "wo gege", "wo pengyou". Good luck! Thanks a lot for the lesson, Emma!
I like the way the meanings of individual syllables are explained here, i.e 'xue sheng', it's unique. When I was living in Hong Kong a Mandarin teacher told me that in one of his courses he taught the 6 or so basic ways that Chinese grammar differed from English (for example using the ba particle in forming the active voice)--I would have died to take this course but had to leave before I could. How about a series of lessons on this Emma?--I'd sign up right now!

Awesome videos! Thank you for the great Chinese lessons. How do you say "RUclips" in Chinese? Maybe you could do a video on internet / technology. With phrases like "I'll google it." or "Send me a text." or "lol," etc...
Hi, and thank you for all the mandarin lesson videos. :) Could you make a video on mediajobs? Such as journalist, photographer, and videographer working for a TV-station like I am? Editor, webdesigner, reporter, interviewiee, and include words like inteview, news story, radio, web, publish, videoediting.. And then follow up with a lesson about common questions in an interviewsetting? And then a lesson about future and past tense? Pleeeeeease? I want to learn more! :)
I am interested in learning Chinese language. We have a lot of Chinese guest in our hotel. Thank you because I am slowly learning. It's hard but interesting....
Learnchinesewithemma: Your lessons are really helpful with my chinese :> Would you mind doing a video for how to write sentences like what to put before or after because I get down graded if I get it wrong. Thanks!
Hi dear teacher,I really enjoyed ur perfect teaching. my dad is a military officer(high ranking) he wants to introduce his self as"I am a military officer"what should he say?
I think that's because the particle "de" indicates posession of an object. If "de" is omitted, a close relation is implied. Mother is not a property, so one says "zhe shi wo mama" (this is my mother). Similarly, zhe shi wo baba (father), zhe shi wo taitai (wife). If you do use the particle "de", this is not necesserily wrong, but the phrase gets a different meaning. For example, "zhe shi wo de taitai" implies: this is my wife, and not yours.
+EmmaXueTV Do you have artist? Writer and landscaper? (Kinda tertiary jobs I know, but since those are things I do I was wondering if you'd do a video with these as a part of them?) Xie xie! Also, what does, (I hope I'm spelling this right!) wo hunca xien (I probably mangled that) mean?
I learned it from a hen hao lao nán zǐ hàn! (I hope I spelled those right! I can't get specific tones on this browser!) (I copied nan zi han from google... I hope the phrase means what I want it to, a very nice(good) old(experienced) man!)
It was something he taught me to say as an alternate "Thank you very much", but I'm positive I spelled that wrong, He only taught me to say it, and he didn't have good English, so it was hard to understand him when I asked him what it meant specifically... but I have said it several time and always get a pleased response. He said something like, "From my house to yours"? but I could have misheard him. It would really help to have a professional look at it!
Happy birthday I know is, sheng(1)ri(4) kuai(4)le. Maybe you can say shi(2)liu(4) sheng(1)ri(4) kuai(4)le, happy sixteenth birthday. - the numbers are the tones.

Hi emma, can you give a summary of the words in the last part: english and chinese without the meaning. Thanks a lot.
when the object/person of possession is very close to the owner, for example, a friend, a mother,a father, the particle de is not needed.
How do you say Musician?
Hi dear teacher,I really enjoyed ur perfect teaching.
my dad is a military officer(high ranking) he wants to introduce his self as"I am a military officer"what should he say?
Mrs Emma can you upload video How To Ask and Tell adress in Mandarin Chinese ? Thanks before :)

How you say massage girl
só fast. but awesome.
Hi there! As you progress in chinese you will learn that some people tend to ommit "de" in conversations
hi, a good video!
why is it Wǒ māmā shì....
and not Wǒ de māmā shì...
One doubt: Isn't pinyin for father bā ba and not bà bà?
Similarly I think pinyin for mother is mà ma. Please correct me if I am wrong.
我也需要一个工作!
