    I just bought RPG Maker and I'm still new but one thing I can't figure out for the life of me is how to create a window or tabs. Such as a character tab, skills tab, items tab, stats and attributes, etc. There must be a way to do it.

    It's also worth taking a bit of time to give a cursory glance over Copyright law in your country, and in Japan as that's where RPGM's license bases it's terms. In the US, for instance, if you want trademark and copyright protections, you have to submit your game and any unique assets to a scepific office to get those registrations and have the ability to use (R) (C) and (TM) in a lot of cases. Though Steam might do this for you, I'm not sure.
    A Publisher certainly will, though they'll often get most of the rights in the end. Publishers ***May*** be willing to hire a team for you if they like the demo you've given them, but that usually comes with additional strings and expectations, too. You can basically write off any chance of getting a Publisher if you're using the RTP unless you already know someone pretty high up at said publisher. You can also use RPGM purely as a pitch maker-That is, showing a publisher, dev team, or just potential fans what you're looking at making before using a more powerful (but more difficult to use) engine such as Game Maker, Godot, Unity or even Unreal 4/5 and spending hundreds or more likely thousands on custom assets (yes, bespoke assets cost that much).
    The suggestion of writing background information about the world and it's inhabitants is fantastic advice. ToastyTime said it best "If you can't think of what a character would have in their room, throw your game out and start over" Brutal, perhaps, but it sums it up well. The mention of birthdays makes me realize I've never seen a 'date' plugin for RPGM that I can recall. time-of-day, but not a calander. There are *mechanics* to be had in that. Also, do not ignore sound design-not just music but everything. walking on surfaces should make sounds. things that would make sound IRL should make sound, ect. Music is great when you need emotion, but you loop that enough and it's going to get dull.

    • @Cazwolf
      @Cazwolf  2 года назад +11

      This is a great comment, thank you! I may do a video about publishing at some point, where I'd definitely have to touch on copyright law and the other things you mentioned. :D Same with sound design, that stuff's really important and deserves its own video.

      Yeah those can get pretty tricky to keep a track of! Depends entirely on how your specific game is set up, but it's always a good shout to make good use of things like labels. Also Common Events are great if you have certain events that repeat in some circumstances, and saves having to copy/paste them more than once. :D

    Question. If I want to make a commercial game using RPG Maker, is it bad / not recommended / frowned upon to use assets taken from the internet / marketplace? Do I HAVE to make original assets to be sellable? Or if I used assets, do I have to pay royalty of sorts?
    I also have a bunch of questions on publishing, but that may be off topic so I'm not sure if you can answer.

    • @Cazwolf
      @Cazwolf  2 года назад +6

      As long as you're using assets that you have permission to use and are following their terms of use, it's totally acceptable! Just make sure you've read their terms first. :D

    • @b.heaven9234
      @b.heaven9234 2 года назад

      @@Cazwolf I see. So it's okay if it's according to their terms.

    Hi Cazwolf! Just discovered your wonderful channel. :) Would like to ask, is it possible to create a dating sim in RPG Maker? Or at the least, a system where the characters' relationship bar increases the more time they fight together in battles, etc.? This feature would be essential to the game idea that I have, but I'm not sure whether it's doable in this engine. Thank you for your helpful videos!

    • @Cazwolf
      @Cazwolf  Год назад

      Hey there! Yep, you can definitely add dating elements. :D You'll just need to use a variable for each character for their "love" progress, which can go up or down based on whatever actions you want.
