Joe was a committed socialist to the very end. All of The Clash were unapologetically their own style of left-wing. They had something to say for the downtrodden and disadvantaged, to quote Billy Bragg, they pointed to where the barriers were. From the very start they said in no uncertain terms that they were anti-fascist and they acted on that impulse until the very end. And even for songs and lyrics after that Joe was still singing for the abused immigrants and refugees (like in Shaktar Donesk) and supported workers rights and strikes until the very end of his life. A true legend of punk rock
Well, when I was 16 in 1979 and I saw the Clash for the first time in San Francisco, I thought Joe was pretty profound, too. I think his comments in this clip, whether scripted or not, pretty much sum up his philosophy, which is reflected in many of the Clash's lyrics.

Why do you think he wouldn't turn up if you thought he made Strummer look like a 'twat' in this film in which he and the Clash themselves hated when reviewing it, for what he was saying? You've got it all wrong, mate.
