I was in my freshman year or college when Joe passed. I always liked the Clash when i was a kid, but didnt really do a deep dive into them until a few years agter he died. Wish i appreciated what a special human he was while he was alive. This man never got his flowers at all. My dorms werent too far from his mural in the Lowew East Side of Manhattan and I remember them painting it.... pass by it every now and again. If ive had a few drinks in me i get a little choked up

I was a senior in HS when he passed away and I'd been listening to The Clash for years by then. It's interesting how well known the band was among people our age growing up, despite the fact that they'd broken up before we can remember. They were so relatable that the music felt fresh all those years later. It really shows what a special thing they had. I've seen images of the mural you're talking about and just thinking of it is enough to bring tears to my eyes!

Joe was left handed and while living in squats he learned to play guitar on other peoples right-handed instruments. He played a unique style of repeated chords that earned him his stage name; Joe Strummer. He was an agro-folk anti-rock-star (Rock-star). RIP Joe.

I had the good fortune to meet Joe at a very early Clash concert in London in 1976. He was very polite and good-natured. I nervously asked when was the group going to bring out their
first single, and he laughed and said "When we're good enough!" They played a blistering set. A drunk shouted "Play Stairway To Heaven!"
As quick as a flash, Joe replied "Why don't you go out and collect some stamps!" "London's Calling" remains a stone-cold classic after four decades.

Some dreams are made for children
But most grow old with us
And when the air can hope to hold on
And to the ground from dust to rust
    Burning lights in the desert
Such a sign only you would know
Your running tires, they're out of pressure
Such a sign only you would know
And I've been a long haul driver
Moving things but the cops don't know
Now I can see the writing
You are the last of the buffalo
    Burning lights in the desert
Such a sign only you would know
Your running tires, they're out of pressure
Such a sign only you would know
    Now I've been to California
And I've been to New South Wales
    Sometimes I, I pull over
When I realize I've left no trace
    Burning lights in the desert
Such a sign only you would know
Your running tires, they're out of pressure
Such a sign only you would know

The man who wanted to be Elvis who could just stand there and every rebellion in music was done but must've realised early on that no one can ever come close to the King so used his mouth to try it out. A Great little English band The Clash with at least 70 songs to live inside 👍

I wonder if anyone who worked on this ever watches this. I would love to know which pub was this filmed in? And which street do the hitmen walk down. Looks like Islington. And whos the Bongo guy? How many takes did they do of this song? I wonder if any B-roll footage from this scene still exists. It sounds like it's the live performance sound from the video which is very cool. Love how they left the mistakes and stuff in. And cut the shot when the Bongo guy looked right at the camera. This performance just seems to get more legendary everytime I see it and I've been watching it on RUclips since 2006 haha.
