Most of these kids dont have "parents" They have a stressed out, stretched thin SINGLE mother who may be doing the best she can. Studies even show that that peer groups have a greater influence than even a secure two parent household. The solution at this point is to get tough on crime again. If they care nothing for their lives let them spend it in prison. Give them plenty of time and programs behind bars and away from the rest of society who just want to live and be safe.
Having kids is a choice. No one forced her to reproduce. If she cannot raise her children she should send them to a fostor home. When you are at the point your 13 year old child is sticking up liquor stores there is no hope for you as a parent. Every charge their underage kid commit instead of arresting the child we should start putting the parents in jail.
Single mothers are not doing the best they can! Too many people spreading these myths, it's mostly intentional on their part; it's literally harder to raise kids that are that violent and lacking in character than the other way around.
The solution: There are no solutions. Sorry. The real solution will never happen. It involves strict consequences and cruelty. But... it would end some if not all of this madness 😡.

We have in the past, had programs, I referenced PAL, that work. The city of Detroit has a lot of really good police officers and PAL can be a means of support in their work. PAL helped keep kids off of the streets and allowed both to interact in a positive way. As for the other things, as a city we have un or little tapped resources in place to further help kids and parents. If the panel discussion could lead to changes in behaviors, we have nearly everything to cut crime and youth violence. Here's a solution: impose a dusk till dawn curfew just like on devil's night for minors 17 and under. These kids need to be held accountable for their actions. They need to be apprehended and tried as adults for committing a serious crime involving a gun. And as for the irresponsible gun owners, they ALSO need to be held accountable for leaving their weapons out in the open unlocked and unloaded where a child can grab them and commit serious crimes with them. These are the only way to stop this nonsense in the community.
