I think they were harsh because they strayed from the source material. Thankfully, not as badly as other movies or series. I like the movie. I thought the actor they chose for John/Four was perfect. The problem with changing core principles from the source makes it harder to make sequels. That and it's really hard to convert books to movies especially when it's complex like this series. They were similar but different in the book which may be inconsequential in the early books but if you read later books. Let's just say there's a reason he's the star of the first book of the series.

If there's anybody who enjoyed the movie and the story it is based on a series of YA novels much like The Hunger Games. There's 7 books in the series plus a sequel series. It's a fun read. There's a lot that happens. But you'll be able to see where the characters and story go.
They could re-do this as a TV series... tell more of the story and introduce some of the other numbers and special powers... I enjoyed it, and wish it got more attention.
I wouldnt have the mental capacity to just stay calm and not kill the bullies with the powers he got. Id just go on a blood lust but thats just me who cant control my anger. 🤣
As 6 year old, I watched "Space Ghost" by Hanna-Barbera, and have been hooked on science fiction/fantasy since. Thank you an interesting story well told! ❤🎉

When they made this, it was with the intention of becoming the "next twilight" or "next harry potter" or "next hunger games".. like several other book series turned movies, when they don't perform as well as expected at the box office they scrap the follow ups, like Solomon Kane (which I thought was a great opening movie), they spend a lot of time world building, back story work.. so it being a one and done film it feels incomplete, because it is.
@@Ilicet except those examples you listed tried to faithfully follow the source material, while I Am Number Four strayed so far away from it that a sequel wouldn't have been possible.

The movie was alright, I wish it stayed true to the source material more and instead of a movie it was a TV series, that way you'd get more of the background and lore
I have a copy of the movie on a dvr and have watched it many times. Weird that I just realized John left Bernie on the wet floor at the school when he came limping back at the end.
What you missed is that Sam blasted one of the Mogs with a ray gun...stating something to the effect "I play a lot of Xbox" to Sarah. Awesome line.
