People say consoles sales aren't as important. But it seems like they are. If Xbox has more console sales and market share doubt games would keep skipping Xbox . This is getting crazy.
"This is getting crazy." What, some random indie game no one cared about skipping Xbox is crazy? Bro, less and less third-party games have been skipping Xbox in the last 2-3 years than there were during the entire Xbox One generation. There's obviously still work to do, but it's only gotten better, not worse. A couple years ago, Persona 3 Reload, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Like a Dragon Gaiden, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and MetaPhor ReFantazio would have been PS5 exclusives, while Persona 5 Tactica, Unicorn Overlord, Tales of Arise, Visions of Mana, Neptunia: Sisters vs. Sisters, Dragon Quest 12, Grandia HD Remaster, Octopath Traveller 2, Shin Megami Tensei V, Scarlet Nexus, and more would just skip Xbox entirely.

At the end of the day, none of what you're whining about matters in the end. Because at the end of the day, it's the results that matter. Microsoft didn't just go to Japan to get, say, SEGA/Atlus's games on Xbox. They also built a relationship with them to get most of their games on Game Pass, in addition to getting the marketing rights for most of Atlus's games. Within the span of four years, we went from Persona coming to Xbox being nothing more than a pipe dream to Xbox becoming the best place t play Persona games. Specifically with Persona 3 Reload, where the Episode Aigis Expansion Pass costs $35 on Steam and PlayStation but is literally free to keep forever on Xbox, in addition to the game being day-one on Game Pass. No platform holder can get these sort of benefits without talking to the publishers first.

Jez, Dragons Dogma 2 has anything but a constant framerate, it fluctuates wildly between 25-45fps, bad frame times.

Rand has some great takes, and Jez is a breath of fresh air in the gaming journalist industry. I would love to see both of them grow to become more than niche podcasters. I think both of you have it in you. RUclips is a crazy blend of strong opinions and neither of you lack strong individual perspectives. Both of you are incredibly steeped in the history of Videogames. You both have a lot to offer, I can't wait to catch your future videos.

Xbox showing revenue with gamepass means nothing when you dont know the cost of running it.
It’s not true that it doesn’t affect the people not spending money. Microtransactions changes the incentive structure for how the game is designed.
Jez really focused on the micro-transactions of Dragons Dogma 2, when to me that is just a sour note on an unfinished game
Jez says while it’s 30fps it’s a smooth fps, which blatantly isn’t true, go check out digital foundry at how erratic the frame times are, so even if it’s 30fps it feels way worse, on-top of traversal stutters
That’s not to mention the pc port which is unacceptable, it’s a game in 2024 yet you can’t even start a new save file, ontop of people having constant crashes, and terrible performance

Ms doing better than in the 360 then why are games still skipping Xbox and why did they put first party games on PlayStation and Nintendo.... something not adding up.
Because they as a corporation need consistent perpetual growth. Xbox is making more profit and revenue than ever before, but they also haven't met some of the lofty targets that MS set for them a few years, like for Game Pass subs. Both can be true at the same time, they are not mutually exclusive things.
This is why despite Sony being the market leader, they are gonna go day-and-date on PC soon with all of their games, probably within the next 5 years, and then eventually they'll start releasing some more games on Xbox and Nintendo consoles to meet those perpetual growth targets. In the distant future, Nintendo will inevitably put their games on PC as well. You'll say I'm delusional for saying this, but you'd also say I was delusional for saying that Sony would ever put their games on PC to begin with.
The games are skipping XBox because of contracts, or, in this case, probably because they are trying to put their name out there. Last year some other company did the same thing.

It’s worth noting that assuming dd2 works the same as dd1, having higher level pawn throttles your xp gain.
Obviously the microtransactions could be worse, but the point is it shouldn’t be in the game at all. It doesn’t have to ruin the whole game for it to be a negative.
Thanks guys for giving your perspective and insight on the handheld news. I just have to wonder... why is there this sentiment that the handheld is the way to go? I know there has been a surge in different offerings for handheld gaming systems in the last couple of years. But, it doesn't seem like there is a significant attachment rate to these different devices. I mean Jez says that the steam deck is blowing up with 5 million units sold... This does not seem like a significant sales number to me. Maybe, I'm out of touch with the handheld market since the last true handheld system I had was the PSP. I don't know. I just have to wonder why you guys think these systems will be so profitable for Xbox and Playstation?

It took until March 2024 for them to bring up the possibility that gamepass has conditioned them not too buy games. While people shouted from the rooftops for years but NONE of these xbox creators would even dare to talk about it live. Now, Devs seriously reconsider putting anything on xbox. at 1:08:47, we have to be careful when comparing consoles to PC.
Consoles are a closed platform, they can remove content you paid/''own'' like Sony did with some TV shows. Content is linked to an account VS physical media is ''linked to a disc''
PC is open, content that are no longer supported stay somewhere, archives, mod support, community support, etc.
There are some issues with the way the physical medium is supported right now, like the need of an internet connection for Day 1 patch, incomplete games on disc, having to install games, not more reading the phys media(SSD or Disc).
I think the phys media is going the vynil direction, with companies releasing phys version at a later with complete on disc, maybe we'll see versions on cartridge SSD with no install required(wishful thinking tho)
Mid-gen refreshes are dumb when we've entered an era of gaming where games on the whole are released cross gen. The tiers Jez mentions for consoles already exisit. PS4 and XB1 are still getting versions of most major releases. Meanwhile the leaked PS6 specs suggest it's going to be held back by it's CPU matching the base PS5 model, the same way the XB1X and PS4 Pro were. A new console that is able to be untied from previous model makes more sense. People can still play future games on the current gen for another 4 years or more if they choose too. As soon as console become digital only, Im sure we'll see more frequent hardware, purely because the platform holders can ensure any games you buy will work on your console. Eliminates the headache of a soccer Mom buying Johnny a game in the Shop and not knowing if he has XB1, XB1S, XB1X, XBSS, XBSX or a hypothetical XBS2S or XBS2X. The only thing that is an arguement against is that this kills the old concept on console generations, where its huge techincal leaps. Face facts, thats already done. They last two console gen leaps were manufacturered by extending the console generation lifespan. I've enjoyed the 60fps cross gen period and quite honestly as we see more games utilise 30fps and lower resolutions the more I'm happy to buy new hardware that's not held back by limitations of the current hardware. Meanwhile the current hardware is supported for those happy to play at 30fps with dynamic resolutions.

Xbox handheld would be cool although personally I’d be more interested in the next gen Xbox in 2026 which would be a response to PS5 Pro and presumably more powerful just like X1X.
I think to capture the EU market Xbox needs marketing, big games like COD (which they now have) and FIFA and to undercut Sony on price like Rand suggested.

The only controversy about Dragon's Dogma 2 is that some people have too weak a computer to run it, and other people don't like having the option to pay 1-2$ for game skipping items in a single player game. That's about it. That doesn't sound like a controversy as much as it sounds like vocal broke gamers, and people who don't understand that game skipping DLC is for whales and streamers, and not for ordinary people.

I hope the same anti-monopoly community who rightfully sued apple for illegally cutting out their competition is able to focus on Steam for their total monopoly on PC games. It would be so refreshing to see every single videogame release on Epic Games Store, GoG, Xbox Store on PC. Some people don't see a value in Steam, Steam Achievements, Steam Workshop and Valve's permanent 30% tax on PC games.

@@xdjrunner Steam has an effective monopoly on PC gaming. Just like MS has an effective monopoly on PC operating systems. a monopoly is not illegal, in and of itself, the issue is when companies use that status to skirt anti-trust laws or force others to comply with their demands. that's where the issue is.
Take the switch out of the console category and Sony has had an effective monopoly on the gaming console space since the PS4. In Japan they effectively control 90% of the high end console market, and in the PS4 era it was even higher. Look at how Sony handled business though, and compare it with how Steam handles business.
You don't see steam forcing people to not publish their games elsewhere. You don't see them arbitrarily controlling pricing. You don't see them making anti-consumer news or inflating hardware sales. The only reason they are not up on charges is because the switch is considered a console and gaming includes mobile and pc.
Aside from the GPU, everything else about the PS5 Pro is on par with the Series X. Including the CPU. It will absolutely not be the 60fps GTA6 machine people were hoping for.

I interpret "ensuring a superior experience" as a coded reference to Xbox requirement to support XSS. As Jez says, wouldn't be hard to all publish for XSX. But a small studio team (only 60 people) might be challenged to optimise memory/performance enough to get it working on XSS without cuts. And they decided they don't want to compromise the game just to support XSS.

Because they don't dominate every gen. They lost the 360 gen. They came back and dominated the PS4 gen, with some exceptional help from XBox, and now they are both getting their arse kicked by the Nintendo Switch gen. Sony is just doing better, console sales wise, then XBox.
This could be the the Tortoise and Hare story though. Sony shot out of the gate while XBox has been moving at a steady pace. The biggest single game on Sony's platform is now funding XBox. XBox is now one of the biggest publishers on Sony's platform. Sony has shot it's load and is going into a serious dry spell while the many XBox first party studios are about to launch their games. There are enough XBox first party studios that, realistically, they could launch a triple a game every month.
We'll see how things turn out at the end of the race, but I expect things are going to be getting real interesting by this time next year.

While there does seem to be a lot of capping going on, I do kind of get it. Imagine how shazzy the witcher would be if you just fast traveled everywhere? I've not played the game, nor do I plan to until it can hit a solid 60 or that framerate gets locked in without stutters and I can create a character however many times I want, but you don't need to buy the stuff. You can get fast travel items in the game.
It just seems, from what I have seen, that a lot of the game is in the actual travel part of the game.

I'm so sick of people wanting Xbox to be the green version of the blue team. If you don't like Xbox releasing Next Gen early, then go off to PS.
