You hit the nail on the head with up and down comment. People think working 3 days a week is so great. But when you’re either recovering from the physical exhaustion, or mentally preparing for you upcoming shifts, your quality of life takes a hit! This isn’t talked about enough

Still better than 5X week 8hr days imo. By the time you get home and have dinner it’s time for bed than you repeat for the next 4 days. Get Saturday to do what you want and spend Sunday preparing for the upcoming 5 day hurdle.

Coming from an active duty (military) who works in medical, working EVERYDAY plus the other bs u have to do in top of your job leads to horrible work-life balance. Working over 8 hrs everyday for low pay and standing duty. I rather have 3 12’s because i do feel like you can recover and enjoy life. I just feel like you have to find the balance in between work and life. It can be manageable if you allow it to be.

There are jobs for experienced nurses only. I grad frrom a 4 year nursing program in 2010, cum laude and with a previous BS Biology under my belt. I passed my boards on the first try. I sent out resumes over the tri-state area for an entire year and received not a single answer. After that, being I desperately needed money. I took any crap job I could find. Now I am 71 and finding it very hard because no one wants to hire me for anything. I live on the east coast and I hear this is an ongoing problem. CEOs dont want to use preceptors because they state they don't want 2 nurses to a patient.
I think this young lady is very overwhelmed. The ER can be very chaotic (God knows I did enough clinical rotations in it (before the advent of street Fentanyl). She may love those she works with but that dorsn't encompass or negate the fact that they are likely understaffed. ERs, as you know, receive all of the mental health patients who should be in the hospital but now live in group homes because neither insurance companies nor the gov't want to adequately cover these individuals. They have nowhere to go and they don't like the group home. Under EMTALA, of course, the ER has to stabilize them and find a bed for them - which is far from easy.

You wouldn’t believe I’m paid more as a school nurse then in the PICU 😂. People always tell me that I’m going to lose clinical skills but if I want to go back to the hospital I can! I did school health nursing. I had to keep up with the health records of at least 500 students in the school…….new students, transferring students, updates. You have to run after parents to bring in records….it’s nuts. there are insulin to be given to students at certain time during the day, there are other kids on other meds…..psych, asthma and other, i was doing straight cath to a student 3 times, also the daily health room visits can be up to 30 students a day……parents have to be called for each of those visits and notes need to be put in. I ran away to go back to the hospital because I could not keep up. This is what school nurse does. Oh I forgot, anytime someone throws up or has a bathroom accident, teachers send them to you for change clean cothes😂.

Same; I was the only nurse for an elementary school of 800 children, incuding thespecial needs kids . Parents would be angry when I couldn't stay late for thier special meetings but I had my own family and kids and I didn't get paid overtime. Or how about when a new child shows up with a shot record from another country and even when you translate it, it means they haven't been vaccinated according to usa standards. Parents letting their kids run out of inhalers, even though I had called and called and called them begging them to bring it in.

Nights take such a toll on you people have NO IDEA. My bf works his 3 12s back to back and will have a week off and he still will be so exhausted on his 3rd day in, he just sleeps the days away sometimes!
Anyway I went straight to the OR (level 1 trauma so it is still popping and crazy lol) and I love it! I only considered OR, cath lab, or IR, MAYBE endo because you have 1 pt at a time. Sorry but my life comes first also I became a nurse at 30 so I wanted to prioritize my future self!

I am also a Nurse. This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my RUclips channel 7 months ago about self development. Now I have 702 subs and > 200 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
This channel also inspired me to upload my recent videos to share my opinions about the main things that truly impacted the way I live. They're a couple of my most vulnerable videos that I've been hesitant to post for many months because of the fear of being misunderstood but I finally decided to overcome that fear so others can learn from my experience so we can all grow together. They're packed with valuable information about the relationship between a job and happiness.

Trauma: Life in the E.R. was my show when I was 8! I thought I was the only one who used to watch this hahaha
I’m a 1st year certified pharmacy technician at a hospital and I can resonate with the work/life balance thing, even though a lot of people think I just count pills all day smh We were so short staffed that at one point I had to make IVs, keep an eye on the new hires, while still running all over the hospital. On my days off, all I do is run errands and sleep and I’m afraid to take a vacation because I know once I’m out the city, my job would mandate me to come in and work. I’ve been stressed, depressed, and anxious to the point where I don’t want to work anymore and I remember praying to God to be where I am today. I have my dream vehicle, the shift I work is amazing, but I just lost the spark for what I do. My contract is up next year and I’ve been looking for ways to utilize my certifications so I won’t be as stressed, not abandon what I love to do and to start on other things I want to do before the life forms beam me up 😂

People who are close to the management tend to receive better treatment and those nurses who belong to a minority group often don't get treated well in the healthcare industry.

I've been nurse for 38 years. I started out working in the inner city ICU's, cardiac, neuro and trauma. I worked 5 years in an downtown ER. A large clients of psych, homeless and functioning illiterate patients. I am now doing supplemental staffing at skilled facilities. I always look forward to going to work. I still learning something new everyday. I laugh and have fun. Their is always going to have never things happen. I had many but I move on. When I come to work with a smile on my face, other nurse look at me like something is wrong. I look at every shift like on the track field. The gun just went off. I will have hurdles. Some will fall. But I will finish the race and no one will stop me. I am just sad I can't do this another 38 years.

You got a lot of great experience that will always be used in your journey in Nursing. YOu will do great! I just hated the step down in pay working for the state but the stress was so less. Good Luck!

I don't get how RNs quit nursing. They have SO many options. As an LPN of 30 years, our options are very limited. I really regret not finishing my degree and now am just too damn old to do it. RNs can teach, travel, do research, write. Its really an open field.

I don’t think she was in it for the right reasons! Nursing is not a walk in the park, it’s a physically mentally demanding job that requires you to be fully dedicated to your patients and work! The woman in this video seems to be looking for an easy job that doesn’t require much and she gets to have her vacation time for RUclips and other stuff! I think that’s all it is! Hospital work is hardcore 24/7 and she couldn’t keep up the pace! I guess it’s better for her to quit now than to mess up and get taken to court like that nurse who gave a patient the wrong drug then it killed her!

@@fionaokeefe1906why is the hate so hard? Just because she is human and get tired and have different reasons than you didn’t make her less qualified than you. So stop passing your uncalled for judgement

I’m a new grad and I just started working on a transplant (med-surg) unit about a month ago and I really don’t like it. I don’t like how I’m super tired after the work and need like a day to recover. I dread going to work. I’m trying to wait it out but every day I’m looking online for outpatient nursing jobs

I have been an LVN for 5 years now and I start RN school in a few months and although outpatient is nice, it also comes with so many cons lol Monday -Friday 8hs is exhausting and have no time for anything else during the week. I miss working 12s , ironically lol! Also outpatient has too many other duties,I feel like I’m not focusing on patient care and more on referrals, scheduling and so many other non clinical things. I am over it lol 😅. I want to be tucked away in pacu or the OR as an RN 😂

I'm almost a year in and I feel the same way. My coworkers are pretty nice and my managers are great. The patient's aren't the worst. But yeah just like you I'm just like "man this sucks". I went part time 6 months in and rather penny pinch then go back to full time.
The only thing that keeps me going is knowing that I've gotten theough the worst of it (the 1st year) amd can say I have experience now. Also knowing there's more jobs out there. Also knowing that acute care doesn't always mean the hospital so that also counts towards my experience.

I quit hospital nursing after going from one hospital to another and encountering terrible management; working over 2000 hours a year for years, in exchange for part-time status and benefits, and told "you don't qualify for full time status" or being scheduled for 3 12-hour shifts a week but having 2 of them cancelled, week after week, being sent home without pay because the census was low, being called in because a patient was being airlifted in, waiting hours then told "you don't get paid because your patient didn't arrive" or having to work Christmas two years in a row and told "you don't have enough seniority to have Christmas off"
or having a vacation request approved months in advance (for my sister's wedding, non-refundable airline tickets etc) ) and then the schedule comes out and the vacation is gone. I worked at 6 different hospitals before figuring out they ALL treat nurses like crap. I loved hospital nursing, what I actually did, but the management is appalling.
