    I like the idea of being a financial planner. I tend to enjoy planning out my own personal finances. I grew up seeing my family struggle with finances, so being able to help people avoid hard times due to finances is something I can see myself doing. Thanks for the video. It gave a lot of good information.

    I’m actually a nurse and while in nursing school realized that I actually like finances, but wasn’t going to change my major when I was nearly done. I was so broke in college that I had to teach myself about finances in order to survive.
    Now I’ve been a nurse for 2 years and have really liked finances more. I am finishing up my bachelors in nursing. I’m thinking of doing a masters in financial planning as I am always advising my friends but would definitely like a formal education and start working as a CFP. There are so many nurses that need financial help...it is CRAZY!!

      Or how about trying be okay with getting advice from people who are in the industry full time!? At the end of the day - you can pass the CFP exam but not even get the marks because you won't qualify by just giving friends financial advice. There's a professional time period you will also need to justify.

      Hi! In my experience working in wealth management, coming from a different career path has given many advisors a “niche” of clientele and has benefited them greatly. If you decide to formally pursue this career, you would have that advantage of having a medical professionals network to tap into.

      If there is no or a very small consumer market for your services you should consider:
      1) offering what they want (e.g. budgeting, financial coaching)--although you are likely "overtrained" for this;
      2) offering what you are trained for in a virtual environment (e.g. see if you can work with consumers in other locations virtually);
      3) moving to another location to offer your services physically or in person.
      Hopefully you can find a solution, because we need more good financial planners!

    What are your thoughts on ChFC? I don't want to practice, I want to learn so that I can teach. My company offers personal financial coaching and education, and there are to many people of color that don't progress economically because they don't understand the importance.

    • @DominiqueHendersonCFP
      @DominiqueHendersonCFP  4 года назад +1

      Hi!
      I haven't compared the curriculum of the ChFC and the CFP side-by-side.
      Here are at least to major differences I've noticed...
      1. There's more pub around the CFP than the ChFC and that pub leads to more public awareness (a positive for practitioners.)
      2. After the education requirement, CFP designees have to sit for comprehensive exam and ChFC's do not...so it is a bit more rigorous.
      The CFP curriculum offers plenty by the way of what you are trying to do and would serve as a good resource even if you don't decide to practice. I'd imagine you could purchase the curriculum from any provide like Dalton, Kaplan, etc.
      I hope that helps.

      @@DominiqueHendersonCFP I am looking forward to it. Like you stated, I will have to take a dive in order to attain my objective, but the fear of not having any experience nor directions is the current battle that I am embracing (since I do not have an idea on how my current life routine, income, lifestyle, and children will be affected). I currently have a great career that would offer bigger opportunity with this degree, but I also believe my career growth with the brand or under corporate would not enhance nor nourish my growth as an individual to be able to embrace all side of the spectrum of my college education. I may be wrong and nothing bad towards my brand that has been good to me by far, but I want to experience the feeling to know that I am helping people under a brand that carries my name, legacy, and culture.

      1. You need a bachelor's degree to be a CFP.
      2. However you don't have to go to college to get CFP coursework done. There are plenty of board registered programs. Go to www.CFP.net

    Just graduated from college with a BS in math, but have been struggling to figure out what exactly to do with that degree lol. I have been looking into an online program that will prepare me for the CFP exam in only 9 months, but the truth is that I have a very limited knowledge of finances, so this would essentially serve as a gateway into the world of finance for me. All I know is that I like numbers and am good with people, but that's about it. Is diving into the world of CFP a good idea, or would you advise some other experience first? Thank you!

      @DominiqueHendersonCFP  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Sumaiya! Thanks for watching in India.
      I really depends... The questions I'd ask myself are:
      1) is financial planning valued in the culture I'll be working in?
      2) can i earn more by pursuing the CFP?
      3) can i dedicate the time it would take to prepare and pass the exam along with the requirements to hold the designation.
      If you can answer yes to all those it might be worth pursuing.
