I am actually proud to say that I do not have a college degree! I started in school as a pre-med, biology major and was not passionate about it at all. At 21, I started working at a hotel when I was offered the sales manager position and then an Assistant GM. At 25, I took a job with Bank of America as a banker and worked my way up to Branch Manager. Finally at 30, I accepted a job with Edward Jones as a financial advisor. I personally feel like I got to this position based on my work ethic and business savvy and I wear that like a badge of honor! I may get one in the future but I don’t feel like its holding me back from anything I want to do.

So I just graduated college 2 years ago with a history degree for teaching. Due to the pandemic I tried selling life insurance but was more interested in overall finance such as advising, analyzing, or even trading. Would it be better to go back to school for something more related like finance or economics? Or try one of the last 2 scenarios in this video? I'm 25 btw. Sorry for the long question and comment.

Thank you so much, Dominique! I actually didn't think it was possible to break into finance without the degree. I'm a career changer (Bachelor's in English, working in Higher Education for the last 5 years). I really want to help people succeed with money and live more fulfilling lives, but going back to school and adding on more debt does not sound appealing at all. How would I go about finding volunteer opportunities within the finance industry? Is that something I can do with a full-time job? Thank you, again!

I will soon be retiring as a police officer. I've always been interested in finance. I want to start a retirement coaching program at my police dept and maybe expand into financial planning. I have an associate's degree not a bachelor's degree and it's in criminal justice. I'm looking for help or ideas. To assist fellow coworkers with our retirement options/questions and financial products available to employees do I need licensing? Im sure there are many pitfalls, so I'm also looking for strategies to move forward. Thanks for your video!

Very helpful video. I was going to community college years ago, then went into the Navy (I had a child to provide for). After college I got into an Ironworkers apprenticeship. The total pay package is $82 and hour. Hard on your body, but hard to walk away. In 2010 when was bad I got my Insurance agents license, but it seemed like a very dishonest was to make a living. I have been an independent investor for many years, and would like to take the series 65. I will be retiring in 5 years, and would like to be a financial advisor. Currently with co-workers, friends, and family I'm the go-to guy to ask about investing, or go over old Ironworkers retirement plans. Any tips at starting this at 50? I just found your channel and look forward to enjoying your videos.
I think my target would be going to the union halls of the trades in my area, and working with the apprentices that will have an annuity/pension, but don't know about personal savings. Is it possible for me to earn a living doing this? They could relate to me, and I can speak to them in langue they understand. The majority of guys in my line of work are party animals, former gang members, bikers, etc. and looking to these trades as a way out. They learn a good money making skill, but most don't know how to save properly for their kids college, or retirement. Any tips please!!!
    Thank you.

      1. Definitely never too late to start.
      2. The fact that you have a service "niche" or people group to associate with is great.
      3. If you will be giving financial advice you need to make sure you state only requires a Series 65.
