My friend had his parking brake actuator go out on his newer X5 BMW. They charged him $2,300 at an independent shop to replace it! What a fucking racket after seeing how easy this is!
MrSnappydog, thank you for your feedback. Yes its easy, and frustrating when you know how much you can save with a simple video. Please support by subscribing, if you haven't already.
I replaced mine last night and I have to share my experience. Took me about 2-1/2 hours. Bought it on ebay from a US seller. Installed it and nothing, It did not work. I was very disappointed. The next day, I thought about deleting the parking brake codes. Hooked up my computer and delete all parking brake codes. Then, I pulled up the parking brake switch and .....VOILA, it worked. When I heard the actuator working, it was like music to my ears. So, if it does not work for you after installation, delete all parking brakes codes. I hope this help you guys.
That's great, I had a similar experience, but I did not need to clear the codes. It just worked after a few minutes. Great job, and thanks again for your support.

Hi! After 7 months does the ebay actuator works fine? I am about to purchase one. Also, did you open the old actuator box to see if there is a damaged part inside? I can hear the motor working but it does not brake
@@mixoulas, that’s a great question. After 7 months it’s still working OK but we all know most after market Chinese parts suck. The EBay one i bought works ok but it gives malfunction errors at least once or twist a day but disappears right away but there are times the error stays the duration of the driving distance but as soon as I shut down the engine goes back to normal. So, if you don’t want to have these problems and you have 1K for the OEM BMW go for it. To be honest is a lot of money. The ebay one has that problem but it does the job. Or maybe I had bad luck with the part I got. Also, there is a problem with the manual release, really hard to pull the cable. Yes, I opened the original and looks like is easy to fix. The ground contact in the motor broke, I can fix it by solder it back. I can send you pictures if you want to see what I’m talking about. Please let me know what you decide to do, aftermarket or original.
@@ggua92722 for sure I will remove the OEM and will try to repair it. I've seen videos and photos of the internal parts and it is not something complicated. I will come back with more details.
Hello Dean. This is a really easy but really hard if you haven't seen how it unlatches. If you go a little further down in the video, I have taken it out to demonstrate exactly that. So go back and see how I do that , it's helpful. By the way, Thanks for commenting, please share my video with your friends, like and SUBSCRIBE. I really appreciate it.
Paula, sorry that I have not explained the other side as much as I did on the clip side. I thought that the clip side was much harder, an that is why I emphasized on it more. The side that you are referring to I believe, is an opposite screw of type of connection. (that means that to unscrew you need to turn right). Twisting right will release the cables. It's not that hard when you get it moving. Thanks for viewing my videos, I really appreciate your support.
Hello, I did not code the actuator, It just takes a few minutes to register and erase the malfunction from the on board computer. Everything works fine now. Thanks for your support, and please don't forget to SUB.
I started getting the Parking Brake yellow light after I'd serviced my transmission. The service guy said it wasn't related to trasmission and that my Parking Brake Actuator had failed. They asked for $1600 for the part itself and $800 for labor. My question to you is, do you know if the process to replace the actuator on your car is the same on the 2013 E70 x50i? Thank you in advance

Even if you turn it on after replacing and it still shows the yellow light, it will go away shortly after. It happened to me too. Good luck and thanks for supporting.

Did the other side cable unscrew the same as the one you showed us, just thinking of having a go at mine, Regards
I actually did not unscrew the other side. mine was fairly easy to get done. Especially if you have a lift.
Hi I have the same problem in 07 x5 e70 , when you change this part you need progaming this new part ?

How did you know is actuator and not the module?
Is it possible to replace just the actuator, and use the current cables? Or do you have to replace the entire unit and cables all at once?
Hello Tyler. Yes you can. That's what I did too. Thanks for your feedback. Don't forget to subscribe.
.. I think its not possible to use both cables only one. One side doesn't unclip like the other. Big job at the wheel with the cable connection.
Hi around the 3:28 your cable seems to pull out really easy, I can’t get mine to pull out seem too tight, Any ideas how to get them out ? Thanks

Yeah well you’re not showing how to disconnect the other side which is extremely hard and there is no clip and I’m stuck and I don’t know what to do
