Yes, and his patience in seeing each phrase through without rushing, as though each phrase is the most important in the whole work - reminds me of Rubinstein. Yet he has his own unique touch. The Netherlands has good cause to be proud!
It's astounding how a teenager can perform with so much sensitivity and technical ability. Arthur Jussen was born in 1996, so he is either 16 or 17 years old in this recital.
Frans Bruggens wonderful sound of the orchestra, with the vivid and fresh piano playing of Arthur Jussen: can'stop listening. Another Avro Klassiek highlight!
He is so damn good, he portrays the passion of Beethoven all the way through the piece. I could sit and listen to this young man play any time day or night. BRAVO

Yes, He is as amazing as a soloist as weith his brother. These two are so connected that is amazing that one can play alone. Two boys who are the Pride of Netherlands. Long may the bring the joy of the classics to the world.
So thrilling to hear you say that they are the Pride of the Netherlands. I would love to hear them in person. I have albums and am just carried away with both of them.
The scintillating high notes of solo piano sound exquisitely beautiful. The well-restrained sound of orchestra is also remarkable. The appropriate tempi set by this artistic conductor is particularly comfortable. All in all, really excellent performance of this masterwork which represents the young and bright aspect of the greatest composer.
And you need to work on your spelling. Shockwave is an ignorant pretender. Get real and listen all over again. This is love... sounding in you stupid ears.
these outstanding Jussen brothers, quintessential representatives of european civilazation,. make me extremely proud of my ancient dutch ancestry.I´m head over heels with these two!!
Dear Avro(klassik), let me congratulate to your choices, and thank you for your work. It seems to me, that I'm regular in the Concertgebowe, however I live in small Hungarian village. Splendid feeling. With the best regards, Pet.

I believe this is the way the players were usually disposed in piano concertos before the side-on arrangement that we are familiar with today was adopted. It allows the conductor and soloist to communicate visually without the conductor having to look round. That works perfectly well for classical concertos with a modern grand piano and a smallish orchestra, but in larger-scale works (Rachmaninov &c) the piano needs to be side-on so that the lid reflects the piano sound into the auditorium.
The piano was placed this way because in Beethoven's time the stage was smaller. Besides, until Franz Liszt the pianist's profile wasn't as important. Young Arthur Jussen would be a teen heartthrob if we could get kids to listen to real music.
Such a HUGE point you make. American kids have NO idea what young people are capable of and they have such bad taste. Doesn't hurt that the Jussen boys are beautiful!!!

thank you for uploading this. very enjoyable. i'm wondering about the placement of the piano. never seen this before. any ideas? i bet he'd do a nice Emperor, or even the Ravel concerto
Yes, just think of all those members of the audience who booked their seats specially on the 'keyboard' side of the auditorium - they must have been mightily pissed off!
Haha, the AVRO is *so* cool in uploading this. The weird thing is, I really hate the normal (classical) radio programming on the Dutch NPR, but as long as they provide the content online, I don't bother anymore. In my car, a tunecast device (and unlimited 3g) and a stereo set at home beat the radio experience... Can't wait for 4G :-) Trust that the AVRO has enough ideas to change the game of classical media what that standard has been layed down. Greetings! Rolfke :-)

A very sweet and clear interprétation. A soothing and peaceful Beethoven... But Frans Bruggen is terrible to look at in front of Arthur Jussen, it is "le spectre et l'ange"...
Absolute genius in this young boy and his brother Lucas!!
Arthur Jussen always excellent ... here with 16 y.o. giving a magnificent Beethoven interpretation ...
This young man, and his brother, are blessed with one of God's most special talents to mankind. What an honour.
For fear of being over the top; Arthur and his brother Lucas are musical demi-gods.. Wonderful stuff.
A brilliant soloist already. Interesting placement of the piano. Whose idea? Lovely work here. Thankyou yet again Avrotos Klassiek.
Absolutely love this performance....clear, sensitive, beautifully articulated!
Dear Jussen, what a leader you are ! Thank you, God gifted young Man. Keep going, the whole world will follow. May God bless you.
I have listened to the beethoven piano concertos hundreds of times ..the phrasing and tonality of his playing is impeccable yet dynamic

Canada and Québec as well are proud of those two mighty gifted young men. Best of luck to both.
such a musical young man: intensely serious. The choice of the nocturne as encore so unusual: especially the tragic way in which this piece ends.
