Tim Duncan had 25 points, 11 rebounds and a couple of blocks in leading the San Antonio Spurs to a Game 7 victory over the Detroit Pistons 81-74. The Spurs won the series 4-3 and their 3rd Championship. The Big Fundamental scored 12 pints in the 3rd quarter, keeping the Spurs in the game after falling behind by 10 points. Manu Ginobili and Robert Horry knocked down some tough shots late in the game as the Spurs sealed the win. Tim Duncan elevated his game after taking criticism for his "just average" performance in the series. His numbers were solid enough however, to earn him his 3rd Finals MVP. I remember watching this game as a young kid. I wanted the Spurs to win so bad. Duncan has been my favorite player ever since and always will be my favorite player. It would mean so much to see him get number 5 tomorrow night. GO SPURS GO!!!!

@@matheusccunha Definately not one of the worst finals. The Spurs beating the Pistons after that 0.4 second fiasco, and the Pistons going for Back to Back rings only to be beaten by the Spurs was an amazing finals. Your opinion is not valid, I don’t think your a Spurs fan either.

Manu had a case, he played great, almost as many points in about 15 less minutes a game; was the offensive anchor when they needed him to be

You know what i love here? The support Robinson give to this team, i watch him sunday night celebrating with tim and other players, cheering, screaming and be happy, all in all because his former team mates won, and i watch him doing the same thing 9 years ago... uff... thats the kind of thing i love from this team, go spurs!
A man of great modesty and integrity, and skills that outmatches practically everyone in the NBA.
Back in 90s I didn't know much about basketball, but the calm psychological state of mind of Duncan immediately caught my attention. He has this quiet demeanor that is so different from many trash-talkers. I remember when i saw his early games - already loved his playing style, not flashy or flamboyant. One of the most unassuming, humble player and person on and off court.
His humility is just amazing,he is such a unique player.
I remember I missed game 7 because I was in Hawaii at a Luau. I remember being upset I couldn't watch the game because I had watched every game before in this series and hearing the outcome of the game was the best. I got my championship t-shirt soon after and a replica basketball with the Sports Illustrated magazine & I think a DVD came with that? This comment is pointless, but I was fucking excited over that title, I was like 12 years old. Good memories. I'm hoping for another title this year, revenge on the Heat and Timmy to get his 5th ring. GO SPURS GO

Probably the least watched NBA Finals, but it featured truly great TEAMS. Not necessarily the best players. But they were both two phenomenal teams with great passing, balance, unselfishness and unity.
Duncan was really the only all time player of all.
This series made me a hardcore spurs fans i remember saying "Hearts of the Champion" everytime a spur made a basket. Since 2005 i became a spurs fanatic through there fall until they rise again. it gives me a tear in the eye that in my lifetime i witness greatness. #GSG

Tim Ducan is great, no doubt about it, but I really feel Manu Ginobli should have won the Finals MVP, Tim Duncan had already won two, and Tony Parker would win the MVP in the next Championship, it would have been nice for all three to win at least an MVP. Ginobli deserved it in 2005 in my opinion. Duncan, Ginobli, and Parker all winning MVPs would have been pretty mind blowing, and they are all still together, older, and they're still doing it. One of the most complete teams of all-time.
But that finals mvp puts him in a category with Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Shaquille O'Neal. Bill Russell would be in this category had they awarded finals mvps back then
I agree. I love Duncan but still Ginobili deserves this award better than him. Spurs for life Duncan-Ginobili-Parker. Go Spurs Go.

Duncan is a type of players who can make his teammate play better. Manu is great but Timmy is like a foundation of the team. Another player I can think of is Steve Nash.

Hard fought game. Games 5-7 really made the series. Just tough, defensive-based classics. I'm a Lakers fan, but I always enjoyed Tim Duncan's game and am gonna miss him whenever he decides to retire.

As a die hard Ginobili fan, MVP or Co MVP he should be there. But still happy for Duncan. When you have Ben, Rasheed and Mcdyess defending you, man, Duncan was just amazing.

Agreed ! To most people, Duncan had "nobody's" on his team in 05. He had (still has) GREAT players around him, but people dont give them enough credit. Duncan can win championships without Superstars. :)

Manu was the real MVP. He was most efficient from the field, shooting over 49 percent against 41 percent of TD. Manu lead the team in Assist, 3 point maded and steals, and was a clutch time maching. 20 ppg against 18; c’mon.

As much as Manu such a dominance present in these series but through average in all stats he couldn't beat Timmy. BUT then again Basketball is a TEAM effort as Duncan said on his speech that all these guys laid on a line, all of them were MVP. I mean this is Timmy Duncan he wouldn't be bother if the trophy went to Manu, as long he got the championship in the end that's the bottom line. And that's what created the longevity of the Big Three of Spurs.

Timmy was their anchor defensively, hit clutch shots and made the right plays in Game 7, and kept the Spurs alive and helped them win Game 5 (along with Horry and his game winning shot, which Manu assisted on). Manu was just as great as Timmy for 3 of the 4 wins, but Duncan’s performance in a CRUCIAL Game 5 (26 points and 19 rebounds), as well as his contribution defensively, definitely earned him the award. I wouldn’t have been mad if Manu won Finals MVP, but you don’t know shit if you try to denigrate what Duncan did that series
