    I'm surprised this isn't talked about as often. This is revolutionary science. For the first time in millenniums, we can artificially regenerate neurons. It's amazing. Imagine, scientists are already using this to repair brain damage, help people paralyzed gain movement, and even to treat chronic nerve pain.

      this is bad for the bussiness of Big Pharma and extremely damaging to their profits selling painkillers and sugar pills. FDA and Pharma lobbyists will never let this get approved.

      Willa Herrera I know how he feels. I‘ve been stuck in a wheelchair for over 20 years now. It always comes down to money! I, like many others with a spinal cord injury, don‘t have the money to pay for such a treatment! Life‘s a bitch and then you die.

    This is one of the things I was looking forward, I'm still hoping for the day we could instead grow back limbs and other body parts that are either lost from accidents/amputation or missing from birth instead of having to rely on bionics as a sole recourse. Science ! :)

    • @adtc
      @adtc 6 лет назад

      Eagle Nebula I think growing limbs would still very far off in the future (but not impossible), so in the meantime bionics and robotics would fill the gap.

    Wow, this is incredible. While I understand both sides of this argument as well, you can't deny the benefit to a paralyzed patient. Why would we not harvest stem cells from ambilocal cords.

    • @thegamefanaticshow
      @thegamefanaticshow 2 года назад

      Once stem cells are harvested they can be cultured indefinitely, for example the cells that I and any future patient is given are descendants from a fetus that was deceased before I was even born myself. The way that the fetus came to be 'medical material' was an unfortunate and unpreventable situation so it helps to look at it in the light that I'm giving those cells the life that was impossible for them to get in their first attempt.

    • @freethink
      @freethink  5 лет назад +4

      We're just filmmakers, not doctors, and whether it is suitable for a given case is something a personal doctor would be best positioned to answer.
      That said, there have been cases, including this one, where it has helped give people back movement: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5461621/
      But it is still very much in early development and not a sure thing: theconversation.com/yes-theres-hope-but-treating-spinal-injuries-with-stem-cells-is-not-a-reality-yet-72493
      If you are interested in finding a clinical trial near you, you can see if anything is available on clinicaltrials.gov (e.g. clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?cond=paraplegia&term=stem+cells&cntry=&state=&city=&dist= ) or other websites, or try asking a doctor.

    • @adtc

      unicornz_of1ove because it's light enough and it's okay to hold it that way. Most people tend to use both hands to hold up a laptop because they used to be heavy and sudden jerks could damage the hard disk. But new laptops are light and often have SSD so there's no real need to hold them with two hands. Just one will do.
