Mikasa was the flower in a field full of blood (the world is cruel, but I still love you), and Eren was the knife in the field of flowers (even if I destroy everything, I'll protect you).
Could it be that the flower field represents eren's childish desires (his dream) and Mikasa in the field of knifes and blood showing her view of reality and why she always tries to keep eren safe
After watching both endings, I feel as though this final ending is Eren's response to Mikasa in the first ending. Eren is Mikasa's freedom, her idea of beauty in a cruel world and Mikasa is Eren's motivation, his purpose, hence "This world is cruel but I still love you". In the first ed Mikasa asks "What are we going to protect" and here Eren finally answers "Even if I sacrifice everything, I will protect you". The parallels between the endings are incredible, a testament to the masterpiece that Attack on Titan is. Thank you Isayama.

Eren in a field of flowers from his childhood to early adulthood (0:52) represents his never changing desire for freedom. Which he finally gained but at the cost of his life, which in return is represented by his disappearance at the end (1:26). Ymir, who saw the world in the perspective of Mikasa saw only the cruelty of the world (0:58) but Eren eventually led them (Mikasa and Ymir) to freedom. Although Eren never really experienced freedom himself as represented by the bird being trapped in an aviary-like dome at 0:44, but despite not being able to experience the freedom that he so longed for he still found beauty within his freedom less world. Which is represented by the following scenes. We can also say that the flowers that Eren stepped on are the people outside of Paradis. The last ed perfectly represented the end of the manga.

Ikr? The ED is soooo good and just describes Eren's journey, from the lyrics to visuals, everything is spot on. Imagine if the ED was actually the final scene of the final episode, like after everything we cut back to Eren now being truly free through the ED. Food for thought :v MUST READ: **Edit: Ok hello, so I saw many of you misunderstood by the ED I meant, and saying it was so good so to CLARIFY that, I meant the song and visuals of Akuma no ko, NOT THE MANGA ED. I did reply to this comment section b4 (around the 106th comment? 5 days ago, now coming back to reply to a 160th comment). You guys can go check it for urself but here is what I said: "Lol to clarify what I meant by the ED is so good, I meant the animated credits ED with Akuma no Ko as bground music, not the manga ending, yeah that sucked, not all but basically 80-90% should be tweaked in the anime (hopefully), like better dialogues between characters, more scenes/explanation to answering some/many details AND 1 thing that has bugged me the most is the mention of Annie's ability to obtain other Titan's powers in chap 126 or something, then NEVER brought up again, I honestly thought it was gonna play a big role in the final battle but nope :'( Anyways ty for reading and hope you understood what I meant by the comment earlier" Hope this is the last time I have to clear up the confusion...and hate that's coming towards me :v ALSO ALSO, if there are people who did like the manga ED, don't attack them :v (unless they attack u) cause I kinda hated/was disappointed with the ED like MANY and hope the anime will change it. But there are those who like it, so don't just attack them please.
Just as Eren saw the future with the Attack Titan and yet was so blinded by the present, it was also us as viewers who followed the entire series and were only focused on what was going to happen next, even though the most important things were right in front of us.
@@lizardman- If you think about it, the polarized reactions among the fanbase for the ending of a "masterpiece" seems a bit telling, doesn't it? Honestly, I have to give props to the people that worked on adapting the ending way better than the manga. There were still flaws, but it was easier to digest.

That fact that eren never let misaka inherit any of the named titans show what he's fighting for. Eren only has limited time left but he's fighting for a future for all the people he loves and will leave behind. And misaka being arguably being the most important on that list. It is very sweet. And it is heartbreaking when he pushes them all away inorder to achieve this across season 4 as he feels it doesn't matter how he achieves it as he will die anyway.
@@idudheebsbzdudbdhddhshe is. Mikasa could hear Eren’s messages in the paths, and besides the only way for her to not have Eldian blood in her at this point would be if the Azumbitos did incest. Her mom was an Azumabito but her dad is not as his hair color isn’t black, unlike what we see when the Azumabitos of the outside world visit.
She would never have been able to become a Titan , but whatever you said still stands , Eren wouldn't attempt or even contemplate turning her into one . Not even Armin , but that was the only way to prolong his life.
no ithink its both because when she or he say “is he better am i not good enough for you”i feel like “he” could be mean like freedom because you know im sure this is mikasa that saying to eren cause eren always wanted his freedom more than love…theres also “the world is cruel but i still love you” idk whos saying that that could be mikasa but it could also be eren so.. im just gonna say that they both say that also i think in the anime ending mikasa will die so do eren going to die too
This ED was more of Eren speaking in his perspective, the lyrics that indicate that are: “What is right is believing in myself strongly,” (referencing Eren now believing in himself after seeing Levi Squad being wiped out) “If we were birds we could go anywhere,” (Eren was always jealous of birds since they could anywhere) “I don’t, *just* want to live,” (Eren doesn’t just want to live, he wants to be free) “Even if it’s a mistake, I don’t doubt it,” (Manga spoilers: Eren activates the rumbling, and continues with it, even with the consequences of moving forward) “Even if I sacrifice everything, I will protect you,” (Eren pushes his friends away to protect them) “Don’t cry about the destiny we were born with. Because we’re all born free,” (Eren’s drive and motivation was always freedom)
@@literallytired5469 I don't think the entire ED has to be strictly from Eren's perspective though. And he and Mikasa are very much bound by fate. While you are correct that this ED focuses on and is intended to apply to Eren, I was just commenting how interesting it is that a lot of it also works for Mikasa. Mikasa's entire development arc of season 4 has been struggling with her own identity as an Ackerman and wondering if her will is even her own. She could also be admitting that all she can do is believe in herself. She has remained steadfast in supporting and believing in Eren. Something others can and have criticized her for as being a mistake. The song starts off by talking about becoming closer to the hero, but how the hero is also an evil with the same face and body. Could be Eren gripping with his own morality, or Mikasa seeing the person she grew up with and loves becoming evil. The entire show, her goal has pretty much been to protect him, even to a reckless degree that others have had to stop her. "Don't cry about the destiny we were born with." I'm 99% certain this was literally a line Mikasa said to Eren early in season 1, or something very similar. "The world is cruel but I still love you." I entirely interpreted this as Mikasa reassuring Eren that in spite of his actions, she will always love him. I also believe it was one of Eren's greatest regrets that his actions would ultimately turn his friends against him, even though he knew it needed to be done. Hence why she reassures him, and why he smiles as the line is being said in the song.
I’d like to think that at 0:53 all Eren sees is Mikasa while ignoring the field of blades surrounding her and all Mikasa sees is Eren in the field of flowers while ignoring the field of blades around her.
Their are no parallels. Other than the parts of scarf and knife. Even scarf flew away from eren and become a bird, meaning Mikasa will move on from eren. That also means that AoE is happening
Every time I watched AOT ending theme, I burst into tears. As Young Eren looked around the field and opened his eyes for very the first time. He couldn't believe... how free and beautiful the world is. When the Eren now stands in middle of the field, Known his dream turned into reality. It was like he vanished into thin air....and never seen again. Eren was like a dove, locked inside a cage praying for door to open so one day he can soar off into the sky You're free Be free After reading the manga, make this so emotional for me to watch now. AOT is the most well written constructive show I had ever watch! I wish I could go back when I first experience this masterpiece
This is soooo amazing omg. Also has anyone else noticed how serious the anime has gotten? Like it’s so deep and like so touching to the heart- I don’t know anyway else to word it but it just feels like the characters are almost real people and you just feel so much for them.
Give her time, she'll understand why it has to be this way I felt it was too sad, then I remembered, and now enjoy the balance between this and rumbling
@@NightBlaze911 Indeed. Like at the time AoT season 3 op1 Red Swan came out feels like overwhelming majority didn't like it, but now more and more are starting to like it... beautiful and painful. :))/:((
Without spoiling too much, having finished the manga I gotta say the lyrics to this ending are absolutely perfect. They capture so much emotion and meaning. And the visuals are outstanding. I love seeing those familiar sights, now abandoned and overgrown. Creates such a feeling of loss, but at the same time I feel content knowing what happened at each location
it’s incredible of all the parallels in this show, all the foreshadowing and hints we’ve missed. isayama is a genius, everything that happened in this show was planned from the very start
It actually makes sense. The first one shows mikasa in a black and white world with just a little bit of colour and a field of knives and blood. The last one shows eren in colourful world with only a few scenes with less colour and a field of colourful flowers. Also in the end eren disappears and mikasa is looking at his while some seconds before that some tears are visible. What's more while eren's bird is trying to fly and be free a knife is being dropped in mikasa's hand (if I remember right) just like the knife eren is holding in the beginning. Lastly in the beginning mikasa is all alone wearing eren's scarf while eren is alone too but he is standing in this field with some small flowers holding the knife. Maybe I'm gonna write a second comment that makes more sense in the future.
Oh my gosh. When I first saw the final ending I was thinking that this was so similar to the first opening. I love the cuts by the way. It really tells the story. Awesome job!
Im saving this in my playlist, it gave me all kinds of goosebumps from the audio to the visuals. And it has been a journey we have sailed together and this year our journey is gonna end.
0:00 Eren standing in darkness in a field of flowers, knife in hand. A hero, and a murderer. The duality of beauty and cruelty of this world. 0:14 "Am I not good enough and is he better for you?" What persona should Eren take to be the best person for Mikasa? Should he grasp at their childhood innocence and be content, or should Eren become something greater and crueler for the sake of their future? "There was just a wall" (that divides us from our freedom and our destiny) 0:15 Mikasa chases after Eren, whom she sees as an ideal, but he keeps moving forward. She thinks she can catch up, but he soars beyond her reach in his pursuit of freedom. 0:39 Freedom is but a pipe dream. Even when they finally have the wings to go anywhere, if their field of Paradise is compromised, are they truly free? A grown Mikasa falters, realizing she can never catch up with Eren, and can only gaze at him from a distance. 0:49 "I don't want to just live," (I want to be free). A childlike Eren gazes in wonder at his dream made reality through the devastation of the world he knew around him. "This world is cruel but I still love you." (And I will do everything in my power to break us out of this cage and 0:57 save you from the violent world I brought you into) 1:18 Mikasa loses the scarf. 1:23 "You, just like you(r father) wanted, chose to set ablaze your life, which will burn to ashes outside the walls (Bystander S3E11)"; having the strength of conviction to sacrifice everything to protect the one(s) he loves to grant them true Paradise.
So like it was a love story where both of them were seeking freedom for each other but the consequences were too cruel. Isayama knows what he did. You don't need to give anyone kiss or anything to show how much you love them... It's Eren's way of showing Mikasa his love by sacrificing himself and giving his beloved the freedom
Don't know if it's intentional or not, but Eren seeing a field of flowers and a beautiful sky when the cage disappears (Representing his views on freedom) and Mikasa's landscape is a field of knives soaked in blood in a dark background (representing what is really happening behind the "Freedom") just hits different.
Eren actually awnsered Mikasa’s question when he said “The world is cruel, But I still love you.I will sacrifice anything to protect you” in Akuma no Ko. Huge plot
Eren and Mikasa have a same stary night background is like they were in the same world or dimension. Mikasa was trying to accept that world, but Eren want to change it. The ending of the story is the result of their different believes when they're colliding.
Still amazed by how something so deep could exist as a fiction. This has to be real. This has to have happened in the past. We could've forgotten all about it.
This is so gorgeous and it fits the story so well! Especially the way Eren is symbolized through nature and birds being free, but Mikasa is shown standing around knives because she eventually has to kill him. This version feels official.
My reactions during: Ed1: Why is Mikasa crying? 😥 Ed7: Why is Ereh smiling? 😧 Can't AoT be happy, just once? Like characters smiling is heartbreaking for fans What an irony
The knives is the reality Mikasa faces, while the flowers are Eren's fantasy of freedom. The cage didn't break, it just vanished.A little shred of humanity and freedom is something Eren would only ask for, not being free, but the feeling of freedom.

Ikr? The ED is soooo good and just describes Eren's journey, from the lyrics to visuals, everything is spot on. Imagine if the ED was actually the final scene of the final episode, like after everything we cut back to Eren now being truly free through the ED. Food for thought :v
MUST READ: **Edit: Ok hello, so I saw many of you misunderstood by the ED I meant, and saying it was so good so to CLARIFY that, I meant the song and visuals of Akuma no ko, NOT THE MANGA ED. I did reply to this comment section b4 (around the 106th comment? 5 days ago, now coming back to reply to a 160th comment). You guys can go check it for urself but here is what I said:
"Lol to clarify what I meant by the ED is so good, I meant the animated credits ED with Akuma no Ko as bground music, not the manga ending, yeah that sucked, not all but basically 80-90% should be tweaked in the anime (hopefully), like better dialogues between characters, more scenes/explanation to answering some/many details
AND 1 thing that has bugged me the most is the mention of Annie's ability to obtain other Titan's powers in chap 126 or something, then NEVER brought up again, I honestly thought it was gonna play a big role in the final battle but nope :'(
Anyways ty for reading and hope you understood what I meant by the comment earlier"
Hope this is the last time I have to clear up the confusion...and hate that's coming towards me :v
ALSO ALSO, if there are people who did like the manga ED, don't attack them :v (unless they attack u) cause I kinda hated/was disappointed with the ED like MANY and hope the anime will change it. But there are those who like it, so don't just attack them please.

That fact that eren never let misaka inherit any of the named titans show what he's fighting for. Eren only has limited time left but he's fighting for a future for all the people he loves and will leave behind. And misaka being arguably being the most important on that list. It is very sweet. And it is heartbreaking when he pushes them all away inorder to achieve this across season 4 as he feels it doesn't matter how he achieves it as he will die anyway.
tf
bruh.
mikasa is not eldian
how have you not learned this after 100 episodes haha
@@idudheebsbzdudbdhddhshe is. Mikasa could hear Eren’s messages in the paths, and besides the only way for her to not have Eldian blood in her at this point would be if the Azumbitos did incest. Her mom was an Azumabito but her dad is not as his hair color isn’t black, unlike what we see when the Azumabitos of the outside world visit.
@@rickster4687Appreciate the clarifying, but also to note, since Mikasa is an Ackerman she is unable to be turned into a titan
She would never have been able to become a Titan , but whatever you said still stands , Eren wouldn't attempt or even contemplate turning her into one . Not even Armin , but that was the only way to prolong his life.
The crazy thing about this ED is that it could be Eren or Mikasa saying the vocals.
if you listen closely there’s two people singing so it could be both
no ithink its both because when she or he say “is he better am i not good enough for you”i feel like “he” could be mean like freedom because you know im sure this is mikasa that saying to eren cause eren always wanted his freedom more than love…theres also “the world is cruel but i still love you” idk whos saying that that could be mikasa but it could also be eren so.. im just gonna say that they both say that also i think in the anime ending mikasa will die so do eren going to die too
This ED was more of Eren speaking in his perspective, the lyrics that indicate that are:
“What is right is believing in myself strongly,” (referencing Eren now believing in himself after seeing Levi Squad being wiped out)
“If we were birds we could go anywhere,” (Eren was always jealous of birds since they could anywhere)
“I don’t, *just* want to live,” (Eren doesn’t just want to live, he wants to be free)
“Even if it’s a mistake, I don’t doubt it,” (Manga spoilers: Eren activates the rumbling, and continues with it, even with the consequences of moving forward)
“Even if I sacrifice everything, I will protect you,” (Eren pushes his friends away to protect them)
“Don’t cry about the destiny we were born with.
The transition at 0:55 is really impressive
00:55 10/10 transition
I’d like to think that at 0:53 all Eren sees is Mikasa while ignoring the field of blades surrounding her and all Mikasa sees is Eren in the field of flowers while ignoring the field of blades around her.

It was like he vanished into thin air....and never seen again.
Eren was like a dove, locked inside a cage praying for door to open so one day he can soar off into the sky

it’s incredible of all the parallels in this show, all the foreshadowing and hints we’ve missed. isayama is a genius, everything that happened in this show was planned from the very start
Even the studio support their relationship.... How good is that
Even his Seiyuus
AoT changed studios but maintained the theme perfectly well that the whole anime looks like it was written and composed by one single person 🤧
In both the endings we saw the scarf flew away and then in the next shot there is a bird
Just as ch 139 🥲😭
That’s fine
Oh my gosh. When I first saw the final ending I was thinking that this was so similar to the first opening. I love the cuts by the way. It really tells the story. Awesome job!
The end where the scarf flies off her. It shows that after all she did, she finally ended it and emotionally understood his and her feelings.
Im saving this in my playlist, it gave me all kinds of goosebumps from the audio to the visuals. And it has been a journey we have sailed together and this year our journey is gonna end.
0:54 This transition is so clean! 😭
これは天才的な繋げ方…!
"There was just a wall" (that divides us from our freedom and our destiny)
0:15 Mikasa chases after Eren, whom she sees as an ideal, but he keeps moving forward.
"This world is cruel but I still love you." (And I will do everything in my power to break us out of this cage and 0:57 save you from the violent world I brought you into)
1:18 Mikasa loses the scarf.
1:23 "You, just like you(r father) wanted, chose to set ablaze your life, which will burn to ashes outside the walls (Bystander S3E11)"; having the strength of conviction to sacrifice everything to protect the one(s) he loves to grant them true Paradise.
Nice interpretation!
Are u my English teacher?
Great Interpretation
Sorry dood but no way I am reading that
So like it was a love story where both of them were seeking freedom for each other but the consequences were too cruel. Isayama knows what he did. You don't need to give anyone kiss or anything to show how much you love them... It's Eren's way of showing Mikasa his love by sacrificing himself and giving his beloved the freedom
The similarities and the contrasts are absolutely amazing AOT knew what they where doing
Okay but the transition right at the moment where Eren switches to Mikasa is just fine touché
エレンの孤独になっても皆んなを救いたい表現とミカサのエレンを救ってあげたいたいけど、手が届かない表現、素晴らしい
Back in the 2013 I never thought we would get all of AoT animated. I'm just sad.

0:52 is just a beautiful transition
This ending is already a nostalgia bomb😭
I'm glad im not the only one who saw the similarities of ED in season 1 and ED in the final season
I like the opening but the ending is just so beautiful
Don't know if it's intentional or not, but Eren seeing a field of flowers and a beautiful sky when the cage disappears (Representing his views on freedom) and Mikasa's landscape is a field of knives soaked in blood in a dark background (representing what is really happening behind the "Freedom") just hits different.
I got emotional watching this. It’s so perfect. Always loved the dynamic between Eren and Mikasa.

The ending of the story is the result of their different believes when they're colliding.

I'm not ready for this series to end again, man. Already hit me hard enough the first time. It's fictional story I will never forget.
Akuma no ko sounds like a love letter from Eren not only to Mikasa but to every person in Paradis.
I like where mikasa has knives while eren has flowers
The knives is the reality Mikasa faces, while the flowers are Eren's fantasy of freedom. The cage didn't break, it just vanished.A little shred of humanity and freedom is something Eren would only ask for, not being free, but the feeling of freedom.
Glad that I'm not the only one who think of the first ending when I see the the final ending
It also has parallels to s3 ending (historia ending) especially the blood on flowers, flower fields
