- Willie, Sarah and their dogs, Jack Spaniels & Nori, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the Skye Lifers manage to get back out in the boat after a three week pause to the season, due to bad weather. But, will the sea state be as calm as we hoped or will it prove disastrous..?!
Plus, Sarah finishes her studio makeover in the stone outbuilding and we give you an update from the cottage garden, after an unseasonably cold & wet start to the summer.

Happy Sunday my friends! Seven fishermen from Newfoundland had their boat flounder and were on a life raft from Thursday until Saturday. Thank god they were rescued safe and sound. The sea can be an unforgiving mistress.
I’m glad they were all rescued safely. I knew a fisherman who was lost at sea he was only in his 20s very sad. Everyone take care be safe.
Glad to know they were safe. In New Zealand recently three fishermen died at sea, which was awful as two had been seen alive by a passing ship which tried to help, but the storm prevented any rescue. Take care out there…and wear your life jacket!

Hey ya'll... when water is choppy and you're trying to empty cages/pots, turn the boat front toward the waves... makes it easier and less nerve-wracking😮
A few weeks after your Potatoes have flowered, you can harvest.
Collect egg shells, crush and dry them. Sprinkle on top of your soil, the sharp edges deter snails and the shells are good for your soil.

I have tears in my eyes after the blooper reel. And for the first time I noticed that first Jack is looking at Willie and then switches to Sarah when you indicate where to click in the last scene.

Willie's painting would go well on a greetings card!
Trick with potato’s is the leafy greens above ground die off. That is when you harvest. You can harvest early if you’re looking for small bite size potatoes. You can store them in the dirt for a little while before they resprout, but you will want to air dry them after digging to cure the peal’s. Everything is looking amazing for your first season growing! Congratulations 💗

Squash are very hungry and thirsty plants. They also need feeding once a week, tomato feed works well. One plant will also easily fill one of those pots. They grow rather large. Hope that helps. 🙂

Willy for a six year old that was a very good painting, why not try again. Archie's painting is very, very good. My face is falling off from all the laughing loved it.
Potatoes are ready to harvest when the leaves die. The first flowers on your squash are probably males so no fruit from those but the later flowers are usually female so hang in there!! Lettuce can be grown until the first snow (however that can be early October where I live).
We have an extensive veggie garden but are still learning. There is something primal and satisfying in growing your own food.
Hi guys your planters are doing really well, if you try mixing some vaseline with salt and rubbing it around the edges of your planters it'll keep away the slugs and snails 😊❤
Sarah...put a few pieces of Irish Spring soap under your packing screads....it will keep the mice out of the perfect nesting material! Love watching you two!
It might give it a horribly strong scent, which could transfer to the contents of the box. My nose is twitching just thinking about it!

Mackerel are just starting to come on over this side (thank gawd husband has now stopped endlessly and loudly proclaiming his annual cravings lol). Studio is looking good ! love the colours of the drawers, I got as far as buying paint for mine last year, got the walls done when we built the new studio but the storage is all still waiting for time haha its like as soon as things start to settle down a bit and I have time... the boat goes in & its all hands to catching for the freezer (currently getting mackerel, haddock, lithe (pollock) wrass, cod & whiting. Another few yrs of boat & you'll be referring to that sea state as average haha.

Well done on the studio organisation Sarah - looks great, and will make life so much easier now it's done.
I'm not sure the raised planters would give enough feeding to grow the squash plants - they get very big and are very hungry! Best in the ground I find - I even tried a grow bag one year but they didn't like it.
Also for your purple sprouting broccoli - they get HUGE and are much too close so will not be great in that planter. Tbh I find the yield from them compared to how much room the plant takes up means I don't grow them now.
Make sure the pups don’t see how fun that roll is to pull lol. My new pup that we adopted about the same time as you would verrrrry interested in that roll 😂. Everything looks great!
Ahaha true!! We’ve managed to train him not to pull the toilet roll, so hopefully there same rules apply to this..!

The potatoes will turn yellow and die off. If you want a sneaky feed of new potatoes right now you could have a little dig gently under one or two plants and get a small feed of little spuds. In my part of Tasmania, we call doing that 'bandicooting.'

Yes bouncing around on a small boat in choppy water is not pleasant. I felt seasick whilst at anchor just a few metres away from the beach...ok I was trying to make a picnic meal down below at the time!

I quite like the piece that Willie did. In fact I collect works of red flowers in vases and pots. Something about red and terracotta that I really enjoy. Personally I enjoy a more impressionistic or abstract type of painting. Not to take away from your art at all, I think it's in a different category altogether and you are very talented. And Willie, lastly, watch that tone. Enjoy your videos as always.

I LOVE Willie's painting! Our son (age 54) did several naive paintings when he was in college, and they are adstoundingly good! It's very hard to do naive painting if you have any background in drawing, but I love the style (think of Gandma Moses' paintings, which are now highly sought after). PS Your new dog's in the mail!

Small addition to the packing roll could be a bar over the top you could use as a guide to slice a blade along.
Might not be workable with the pups but a good sized pond for frogs & toads to spawn in can do wonder for controlling the slugs in a garden
We do get frogs and toads on the garden already…although Nori seems to enjoy picking them and running round the garden with them 😫🤦♀️

Watching Skye Life from Skye! Staying over on our way back to Norfolk after spending 2 weeks on Harris and Lewis and going to Heb Celt !! Looking forward to our own new border collie puppy, so sorry, can’t offer to take on any extra doggies you get sent! Skye is so lovely, came here in 2018 and left a big chunk of my heart at Beatons Cottage in the north of the island! Lots of cuddles for Jack Spaniels and Nori ! Love the channel !! X

Yes always point the nose of your boat into the waves when potting. When i worked on s creel boat my skipper always said if something can go wrong on a boat it will go wrong. Always take care when putting those pots back over the side regarding the rope. Great video as ever guy's 😊
