Great content. It’s so good to be a villa fan right now & as of Tuesday that’s top of the champions league, no goals conceded. 3 wins in 3 games . UTV .
Aston Villa basically sold a few things, moved some money around, and told FFP, "Don't mind us, just doing some creative accounting!" They're playing financial Tetris and winning!😂
For those of us who wasn't entirely sure what ffp was or how it worked, this video was a massive help in understanding it all, thanks for uploading it and taking the time to break it all down 👍🏻...... UTV 💜 💙
Ask most Villa fans and they'll tell you that we valued Douglas Luiz more than £60m given some of the fees going around for other CM's in recent times like Caicedo, Rice, and Enzo Fernandez Hard to believe that we have not missed him on the pitch yet this season. Youri Tielemans has been absolutely incredible. Now we are currently in top4 and top of the CL league table! And it still feels like we've not hit our best yet this season. And we nearly have a fully fit, match sharp squad for the 1st time since Emery arrived. Feeling excited about what we could potentially achieve this year
@@ArrogantChickenI wouldn't call it overachievement personally the squad was built to be European contenders before he joined and since he joined to now we would be 4th place in that table that's basically 2 seasons give or take of us finishing ending up in 4th that's consistentency but that's just how I see it.
Very well made video, interesting to think about the fact that we also sold diaby for a large sum of money but also purchased amadou onana for a large sum as well. On top of this, for a large portion of the summer we were heavily linked to joao felix, i wonder how we were planning to pull that off financially?
Those two transfers happened after June 30, so that hit the next PSR review. Luckily for Villa, champions league brings more money (in sponsorships, match day and TV rights) and with their recent performances, I expect they’ll be able to spend big next summer. But the club could also risk it and spend early in the transfer window which I expect they will.
I feel like ive been in a footballing dream the last few years, it hasnt felt real what weve done but it is! So proud of everyone associated with villa, long may it continue!
Brilliantly illustrated video. Selling Douglas Luiz is similar to selling an academy player because he's already been at the club for so long his transfer fee had pretty much been amortised to nothing. I'm really interested in seeing how Villa are doing financially. A lot of big sponsorship deals signed recently. Players like Morgan Rogers and Philogene will be on lower wages due to coming from the Championship. Once they get Coutinho off the books, they'll be in such a better place.
They upgraded both their shirt sponsor and shirt makers. Their over performance in the new champions league and their higher ticket prices mean Villa could see a 100m increase in revenue from these avenues alone. This is massive and Unai will have more room to buy players around the Premier League PSR and the UEFA FFP.
Doesn’t make sense to me why the Premier League wouldn’t like the swap deal ‘loopholes’, the whole point of FFP supposedly is for clubs to not go bankrupt, and here we are not spending money 🤷🏼♂️ Great Video btw! 💜💙
Because badly run clubs like Everton and Chelsea can just not deal with their financial problems and just work around the PSR. But the PSR is also holding back clubs like Villa from competing.
Very good video, only comment from me is this video makes it seem like we didn’t sell diaby last window and we only signed tielemans this year, but other than those two small issues this was a great video
Thanks a million. Villa did sell Diaby the last window but outside the PSR review period (it ends at June 30). They did it to comply with the UEFA FFP. And it may sound like I showed Tielemans was bought but I showed both their 23/24 stats at Villa, But fair point.
Great vid I have only just seen this after the bolonga game, where villa sit top of the champions league lol. What the actual fuck is going on? I feel like I am in a dream
I love it all for my boys. I didn’t realize the Prem went and threatened them about getting around their own rules. Such BS- like “No, we meant you better sell your players to big clubs!”
Surely this will catch up with Us, Everton and Chelsea at some point. Yes we've allowed ourselves to spend more money now, but surely this is at the costs of spending less money in the future ? The only way round this I can see is if 1. we are expecting rapid inflation of fees/wages and league increases FFP budgets because of this. Or 2. we manage to massively grow our revenue which will up our FFP budget as well. I guess with champion league performances our revenue will grow, so we are successfully following option 2. But this is a risk. Evertons problems are exactly because they spent and expected to move up the table but have not.
Great thinking and your 2nd point correct. Villa signed new deals with a shirt sponsor and shirt maker for more money. They are making more money from gate receipts and TV rights thanks to the champions league. But Villa are over performing and this means even more money. If Villa keep this up, they WILL break into the big 6, permanently. Expect big spending in the winter window.
It’s the insane wages that need covering. There was a BBC article last season showing clubs wage cost as a percentage of turnover. Leicester were spending more on wages than they were getting in revenue. Villa were one of the worst. Above 80%. That’s the bit that needs sustaining and sorting out. That £119m year is now year 1 of the new cycle. So probably a lean year again and then that drops off and allows a bit more slack. The whole system is a disaster waiting to happen. The rules were implemented to stop clubs doing a Bury. But they are handcuffing teams like Villa and Newcastle from the owners doing what Man City and Chelsea have done to establish themselves before the rules existed.
It's mainly about lowering the wage bill or getting a lot more money then we were getting to cover it. We can't rely on the league upping the budgets as we tried that and failed miserably on the vote they ain't going to change it. All we can do is try to minimise losses as much as possible and get the most amount of money we can the most of which is coming from Champions League as right now we got like what 23m for league phase qualification and the three wins(plus home tickets)that will be going into the accounts that can go a long way to helping nevermind the rest of the league phase and whatever the money is for the position we finish within that and any subsequent funds. Of course to get that consistently is easier said then done even with our record since Emery joining us would put us in 4th it's no easy task to keep that up so we really do got to monitor the wages to cut it down as much as possible offloading players like Dendoncker (Anderlecht might make it permanent he's doing good there) and Coutinho to help that out a bit.
This was the plan of big 4 clubs at keeping Man City down. But all it does is hurt the middle sized clubs. But your troubles are soon to be over, it appears Villa are raking in revenue thanks to their performances (about 100m).
I’m a villa fan, please stop saying arseton villa 😂 also PSR and FFP are completely different things, and have different financial obligations attached to them
Lol. Don’t know anyone in Birmingham so no one corrected me. As for the FFP you are correct, however the PSR was the premier league’s attempt at financial fair play rules after UEFA instituted the FFP. PSR controls loss and the FFP controls wage/revenue. But as an honor to your comment, I’ll make the change.
@@MrMonkeyHat You've lost me there. So the proceeds from Diaby's sale don't count towards Villa's overall UK-based PSR calculations? That seems very unlikely to me.
Mr Monkey hat is correct. Diaby was sold after June 30 which is the next PSR period to comply with the UEFA FFP which controls wage/revenue. Diaby had a high wage which helped.

what a transfer tielemans is, there is a genuine case for him being man of the match for every match we've played this season so far

UTV great video
The profit on Luiz was probably closer to £35-40m as after 5 years his book value was likely very low. Maybe as low as £5m or less.
Very good point! How did I miss that? But I suspect the write off likely cancels out the add-ons that I did not include.
Onana was brought in from Everton for Luis too.
Correct but after June 30, which outside the current PSR review period.
Did i miss the purchase of Onana in this vid?
No. Onana’s transfer happened in July, outside the PSR review period for this season.
It’s Aston, not Awston
Diaby was also sold for a profit I believe

Actually no. Because Villa will be in the champions league and the new revenue will allow them to do so much more.
We didn’t outsmart anything. We played within the rules.
You did both.
ffp exists to keep the typical top 6 rich and in the top spots to help generate money for the league all it does is keep the smaller teams down
