In this episode, Did You Know Gaming takes a look at some facts, secrets, Easter eggs and history from the Duke Nukem series!
Duke Nukem started out as an MS-DOS 2D platformer series, but eventually became a 3D shooter that helped define the PC gaming space. Although Duke Nukem 3D was praised, Duke Nukem Forever was critically panned, and was stuck in development hell for many years, and was even accused of being vaporware. Through our analysis of the series, its gameplay and beta builds, we hope to show some interesting facts from the making of Duke Nukem and have its history explained.

It sounds weird but Randy does love the Duke IP. I suppose he's a bit cautious now since DN3D World Tour was not the smash hit port he was expecting, but he said in the Duke4.net livestream he would gladly let people like Slipgate Studios run with the Duke IP for a side-scroller, and that he wants to re-release every Duke game in one package with as much behind-the-scenes content as possible.
I doubt it'll happen anytime soon, mind you. Hopefully *that* won't take 15 years, too.

I'll always love Duke Nukem 3D, I started playing it with my dad on PC when I was like 5 right after it came out and it was such a fucking awesome game for it's time! Even now it's a great game, simplistic but still an absolutely great game! We'd play to where I would shoot the aliens and open doors then he'd control the walking, one or the other. It made for a really good bonding experience, we even got the atomic addition after we realized how much we liked the game! I swear, it must of taken us over a year to finish every level...

Did you know? Duke Nukem Forever isn't a bad game. It's just a decent game released 10 years too late, long after the time when it would've been considered a good game.

It was definitely overrated and such, but I would definitely give it another full game play (if I didn't trade it in for pennies at Gamestop, those bastards).

Before the gay robot, Bombshell was supposed to be Duke Nukem's sidekick in Duke Nukem Forever. In the end, she got her own game which bombed (no pun intended). In addition to that, Bombshell was supposed to have a free FPS game built with the Build engine (same engine for Duke3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior) which was supposed to advertise the game but it has been delayed so much that it probably got abandoned.

According to Wikipedia there are 13 titles in the Duke Nukem franchise. This video however only features 3D and Forever :( At least Duke Nukem I and II could have gotten a bit more time.

At 0:11, you said that DNF was originally developed as a 2D side-scrolling game. I think this is an error, as it seems strange that 3D Realms would go back to 2D gameplay for the next major installment in the Duke series after the previous installment (Duke Nukem 3D) had been in 3D, or 2.5D to be precise from a technological standpoint. Yes, I know there was Duke Nukem: The Manhattan Project, but that was more of a retro-style spinoff of Duke Nukem I and II rather than a proper sequel to Duke Nukem 3D.

Also: The original game was called "Duke Nukum" but was later changed because it shared a name with a Captain Planet villain. Duke also makes a cameo in "Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure," which was made by Duke developers Apogee (later 3D Realms).

Sure it has its faults, but overall it's an enjoyable game.
The hype had people believing it would be Half Life 3.

Yeah it was an alright game all told, it worked, it functioned, wasn't all that buggy, had a few laughs. It could have been a lot worse.

I was brought here after buying the game on the switch. First time playing such a game. I gotta say, i do like it a lot. Some hidden area's are hard to find but the game was fun overall.
Of course you had to get Clint to do the Duke episode. It would have been a crime otherwise.
Duke is LGR's favorite. (as you could also tell by his impressions of Duke if you've seen his actual videos)

+DrIvanRadosivic Battleborn was also not helped by the fact Overwatch came out around a similar time, and people flocked to that instead. Also, some people don't play online multiplayer only games, such as Overwatch or Battleborn, some prefer to play local Multiplayer/LAN or Single Player. I prefer to play Single Player or Local Multiplayer/LAN, which is becoming more of a hard to find thing in modern games. Online Modes are fine as long as i can play single player as well.

Aww, I was hoping for more behind-the-scenes and development trivia, especially for Duke 3D. There's a lot you can talk about just with the development of the engine technology.
Just talking about the references in the game is kind of a cop out; you didn't even scratch the surface of what the series has to offer from that.
