The “Would You Kindly” twist is the sole reason I believe that a BioShock movie wouldn’t work
The point of the twist (to me anyway) is that you never had a choice and never thought about it. You, like Jack, followed Atlas to the letter and never truly did anything of your own free will. A non interactive medium would ruin the message of the twist for me
They could definitely do one from Meltzers point of view.
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid lost my password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Mohammad Mustafa Instablaster ;)
The first Bioshock is still one of my favorites. The atmosphere, the sound design, the combat. It's all fantastic.
Would you kindly...
A powerful phrase. A familiar phrase?
At the end of the day what separates a man from a slave a man chooses and a slave obeys
👊🏼❕
Just beat all3
Even though I really enjoy the final game, looking in to what Bioshock Infinite was originally supposed to be is always kind of depressing. Pretty much all the criticisms people had about the game (from a design perspective at least) were not an issue in earlier versions. It sounded like it started off being more or less what everyone would have wanted from a Bioshock sequel, before them having to repeatedly cut back everything until it ended up like it was in the final version. That's the biggest reason why it took so long to come out. They had to keep rebuilding the game over and over, narrowing the scope each time.
As someone who followed every news article during the game's development, my theory is the game was ruined by concerns of financial loss. I recall an interview with Ken Levine discussing focus group testing, where they asked college "frat" students if they knew BioShock. When they said they didn't, he wanted to gear the game toward games they did play "like Call of Duty" - naming the game directly. That's a major red flag, although 2012-2013 people didn't think much of it.
I believe 2K Games, the parent company holding Irrational Games, was afraid the game wouldn't make back production costs in sales. As such they forced Irrational Games to constantly rework their game to fit popular gaming trends of the time. Of course this was a terrible idea. They were chasing the trend of MULTIPLAYER FPS in a SINGLEPLAYER GAME. This resulted in an overabundance of obligatory gunfights and a massive reduction in story, and the overall result was memorable in the moment and absolutely forgettable in the long term.
In their attempts to "play it safe" by reducing the racist tones to very specific scenes, turn it from USA to Religon, make the gameplay fit trends, they produced an inferior product. Had the game been allowed to stay its proper course, it would have been a far more impressive (literal form) game. Something to remember, something to go "That was a major point in gaming." Instead, it is a footnote.
+MegaScience that makes a lot of sense. There's a large gap between when they first showed the demo and the release so when I first saw it I thought it was the most impressive graphics I've ever seen and years later it's been quickly left to the dust and was even downgraded in some areas.
I really hope there's a part 2 to this video, you can make an entire episode on how much content was scrapped and hashed out for the development of Infinite.
Bioshock is one of my favorite series!
Same! And now it's all on the switch, i can have a reason not to socialy interact with my nan because she hates my guts and asks me uncomfortable questions when i very clearly don't want to get asked those questions!

The Anachronistic touch in BioShock Infinite was Amazing. I love the music.
And the plottwist at the end is amazing. Unexpected, puzzling and depressing.
the dlc were even more confusing and fucked up haha, damn the first experience in Infinite was awesome!
@Zero Cool Anachronistic means that you have something out of its time period, like Music from the 70s and 80s in the 10s and 20s.
100% agree with that. That game is a complete work of art and really capped off the bioshock "trilogy" in a way that both subverted expectations and moved the series forward.
Bryce Mckenzie infinite was complete trash.
One of the greatest games ever. I remember playing it for the first time and thinking, I didn't know you could do this in a game.

Mine would be: “-where, over the rainbow...”

Never got a chance to play BioShock. I feel like I may have missed out on something really great.
There's a remaster on ps4 and PC.
Advent Cirno Watching this video probably also spoiled a lot of it for you. If you're interested, the gameplay still holds up in all 3 games. Bioshock 1 is a lot more atmospheric & narrative driven, but the combat is still fun, while remaining challenging where it should be. Bioshock 2 is much more focused on the action. It is admittedly the weakest game but it is by no means bad. The improved pace of combat winds up actually making it more fun to play if you ignore the flaws. Infinite was hugely disappointing to me, and in my opinion, tries to hard to mimic the success of the 1st Bioshock. Still fun and every bit as unique, but oddly enough, can be extremely frustrating. Especially on higher difficulties, as the combat feels the least balanced.
TL;DR: each of the 3 games is still worth your time.
I suggest you to wait for a Steam sale you can get all three games for a really low price.
Ooohhohohohohohoho yeah you did.
You can still play the game?
Such a GREAT series, and SYSTEM SHOCK 2 is one of my all time favorite PC games
You didn´t tell anything about the ending of Infinite... would be interesting to know, how the developers got this idea
Yes, no cutscenes at all in Bioshock. Just several long moments where you're unable to progress and/or have control taken away from you while a pre-scipted series of lines and actions unfolds in front of you. But you can like walk around during them so it's totally not a cutscene and is much better storytelling :)
Yeah, nothing like that in Half-Life 2.
It kind of makes sense in the game though. The lack of control I mean.
That's the point dumbass
Of the 7 and a half to eight hours of gameplay in the whole game, there's maybe 10 minutes of "cutscenes."
Damn, dude... that E3 2011 Demo, though... I swear, that was the one that sold me on the game and led me to playing through original two games.
And then... it turned out Infinite was barely the we were shown. I'm still mad about this, honestly
Last game I ever pre-ordered for this exact reason.
Same to both. Trailer made me hype and I pre-ordered the special edition. Game came out and, while I still liked it, it was but a shadow of the trailer. Have not bothered with a pre-order since.
I didn't play Colonial Marines so I don't know anything about that, but despite everything Infinite wasn't a bad game. So on that note it deserves at least a little praise. But I won't disagree that it's basically a lie. Like, the marketing straight up lied to us. I know games change during development, but this was too much
Bad phrasing on my part, sorry for that. I didn't miss that controversy. I know the gist of it, because it was a pretty big topic. But at the time (and before it) I wasn't really following the gaming industry, so it just kinda went by. I also never played the game and never intend to, simply because I have zero interest in the franchise. All I know is that the game was massively downgraded, but I'm sure there was more to it.
Either way - it's surely the first and definitely not the last time something like this happens. It's always disappointing, but what can you do. Hopefully it teaches the companies a lesson, if nothing else

I absolutely love BioShock Infinite.
Oddly I am playing through all three of them again now (including, of course, the excellent Minerva's Den for Bioshock 2), and am on Infinite now for the Bioshock Collection that I got the day it came out but never got to. I played through the original Bioshock about five times now from PC to PS3 to now PS4, played part two twice, and now Infinite for the third time. I want to thank you for one BIG thing in your video: I had NO IDEA the cover for Infinite on the PS3 was reversible until now, and it is superior. I will most likely never play it on the PS3 again, but I immediately got up and switched the sleeve, and it's now my second favorite reversible cover next to Doom on the PS4. Excellent video and thank you for one thing I never knew!
Infinite was a great FPS, but not a good Bioshock game. The biggest appeal of the first two, in my opinion, is the atmospheric horror. Being underwater in an unfamiliar, crushing setting really drove home being in a terrifying, lonely place full of unknown horrors
Your first sentence made me think of fo4
Bioshock 1 is one of my favorite games I've ever played! I remember playing for the first time! I was 21 (23 now) and the atmosphere was very unsettling to me! Sometimes I'd have to stop for a few minutes! Lol
Infinite was shit all around.
Wanted to be a CoD game so bad that it downgraded to a basic FPS game.
It certainly didn't help that Infinite tried far too hard to twist its audience harder than Shyamalan would ever dare to try. The story was changed too much, and Ken Levine was the wrong kind of perfectionist, deleting entire tracts of content if he didn't like it. The game was overly ambitious and underwhelming.
For the record, BioShock Infinite specifically used Call of Duty as inspiration. I'm not exaggerating. In an interview before Infinite released, Ken Levine mentioned asking college frat students if they knew BioShock, and when they said they didn't, they decided to gear the game toward games they played "such as Call of Duty." I'm having trouble finding the article where Ken Levine is quoted on this, but I did find this article: www.polygon.com/features/2013/1/10/3853198/ken-levine-bioshock-infinite-vgas
BioShock Infinite was ruined by greed. Maybe it was Ken Levine, but I feel it was more likely 2K Games telling Ken the game had to be a financial success. For some reason they thought washing the story out with an overabundance of FPS sequences would make it appeal to Call of Duty players, forgetting that the entire reason for Call of Duty's success revolved around multiplayer gunplay. It's all lost on AI singleplayer gameplay, so they only served to dilute their product and create an inferior game.
Don't get me wrong: I'm an avid BioShock fan. I tracked everything I could of the game for years. But I see the mistakes here and god damn do they piss me off.
Booker, catch!
Thanks, Elizabeth.
much obliged
Nice!

Finally, one of the most important “Did you know gaming” episodes EV0R!!!
Bioshock was the game that brought me back into gaming, the idea of rapture is excellent and the way they presented it was fantastic in every possible way (except it wasn't realistic, but it's a game so we give them a break)
Still feel like we can go much deeper into the series, much much deeper. If anyone is reading this, if you did like Bioshock I 100% advice you to read the book called rapture, it works as a prequel and it's a great and interesting if you feel like you want to know more.
All three games are masterpieces together and on their own. Ken Levine and the rest of the teams that made the games truly did a great job. They helped propel the idea that games can be art too into the mainstream. They helped build a base of video game storytelling that many game developers would be inspired by for years to come. For me, at least, they will always be fondly remembered as strong experiences rather than just mindless entertainment.
Bioshock is my favorite game of all time and i've been waiting MANY years for you guys to do a episode on it THANK YOU!
Bioshock is one of my favorite game franchises I’ve played. Rapture specifically is the best character. Which is why a movie could work really well.
Bioshock was the 1st xbox 360 game I ever played, I loved it instantly. Bioshock is a gaming masterpiece. I like to play games that I consider unique and unlike other games , bioshock blew me away. This franchise will always be my number 1 fps series. 💙👍⭐
Would you kindly.
Bioshock really did a good job commenting on player habits without breaking the 4th wall, hell, without even glimpsing it.

the first bioshock was definitely the best game overall, it had great difficulty and the story was insane. number 2 was watered down with the focus on just gameplay though it was fun, i found it too easy with a story that wasnt so good. infinite was awesome the first time i played it, but not as fun the second time. i can always go back and play the first game.
I absolutely LOVE the Bioshock games so much. They all have this unique flair of deep literature references and philosophical ideas that most games fail to capture a lot of times.
You guys could make a whole video comparing and contrasting Infinite's final release vs. what was originally planned though, there's so much cut content! Crowbcat did a great video on the subject already.
Amazing video as always!
@DrIvanRadosivic ok but his Bioshock Infinite video is a great and informative video of the ideas that Irrational Games had in mind for the game that just couldn't be put in.
@DrIvanRadosivic I'm not saying he's good or not good though.
I'm just saying that this one specific video by them is good.
I know that it's a controversial channel and I have disagreements with a lot of what they post but it's this one specific video that I'm referring to that relates to this video that I'm saying is good.
"One of the first ideas to emerge"
I saw that pun
Petting music from the ship was a nice touch
I felt like Infinite's gameplay was perhaps the weakest in the series. Just way too many exploitable, repetitive features that by the end, I felt like I was really just trudging along waves of enemies just to get to the next story sequence. But I really loved Infinite's story, including the dlc. The way the game tied in the first bioshock was just amazing for me.
I just wish Bioshock Infinite felt more like a Bioshock game. The section with the asylum is what I wanted the rest of the game to be. Infinite is just too bright and open to capture what made Bioshock feel so good in the first place. In contrast, the Burial at Sea DLC was great.
I do not know what the overall best game in the series is, but Minerva's Den is absolutely my favorite story in it.
Bioshock is my favourite game! The setting, the characters, the interweaving of objectivism and the twist! A perfect game. I also enjoyed Infinite. Very different to the original Bioshock but with touches of the same creepy, unsettling vibe. I also liked that in Infinite I didn't have to be terrified 24/7 haha
sofia lamb might just be my favourite villain/female gaming character of all time. the way they wrote her in bioshock 2 was amazing. much better than andrew ryan, i'd even argue that "all i've done was an act of love" is way more impactful than "a man chooses, a slave obeys". even though the most iconic line from the games is "no gods or kings, only men". i love bioshock so much. still salty sofia wasn't on burial at sea.
I love gifting friends the bioshock games. To see their reaction at the end of the Bioshock Infinite DLC too... oh man, amazing.
Interesting that Ken Levines has critiqued games for not giving players choice, but in Bioshock Infinite, you're repeatedly given options that don't matter.
SkyOut exactly, I wonder how many people don’t understand that it was intentional. It served the themes of the story well.
While watching this, an AD popped up for league, with the music playing being the iconic 'turning moment'-style song from "No Game No Life." Hearing this, my brain instantly SCREAMED "How dare you stand where he stood" without missing a beat, and I just started to laugh.
Back on topic though, bioshock was great, I really had fun with it
YES! I already can't wait for Bioshock 2 and it's multiplayer.
What?
The Bioshock trilogy is one of my favourites. Even 2 is a great game.
The more I learn about bioshock, the more it reminds me of a toned down silent hill; right down to the enemies representing extreme's of parts or mindset's of the main character.
I wonder, in today's age, is it possible for bioshock to push itself to the limits such like silent hill did? In terms of graphics, mechanics, risky choices in terms of how much you can get away with; yet still make it avaliable to most audiences (ofc not child-friendly) as well?
It makes you wonder, it makes you think. Just how far can we go with bioshock to shock, think and grow; but also be acceptable today?
Still one of my favorite games of all time. Played it on PS3 (remake) originally, then Xbox 1, then on a real gamer system, PC sporting a GTX 1070. Can't wait to see the game again when the next line of Nvidia cards drop. 1440p with over 100 FPS...can't freaking wait
My favourite game ever!!!!!

Did you know... Matthewmatosis completely rips the plot of Bioshock Infinite into shreds and shows the weaknesses of the story. Still a cool game though.
Has the developer of Bioshock Infinite never heard of Fallout 3? which had that *beautiful* radio music from the 50s and 40s? Which fit perfectly into the game.

Man, I miss BioShock...
What a coincidence that I was just playing this lol
Is it just me, or does the "Circus of Values" sound more like a game you'd play on The Price is Right?
Technically, Andrew Ryan wasn't an Objectivist. He was closer to an anarcho-capitalist.
Objectivists believe that *SOME* form of Limited, Local-Level Government is necessary, even if some of them completely oppose nation-states.
It's incorrect to state that Andrew Ryan was objectivist given his explicit rejection of the necessity of any government whatsoever. That makes him at the very least a type of anarchist.
and yet he and other 3 big CEOs formed a government, as shown in the bioshock infinite DLCs...
When my brother got a xb360 instead of ps3, i got Bioshock to compensate and loved it. I eventually came to like the xbox as well.
