  • Malaysian Soy Sauce Prawns (Soyar Prawn) is a delightful dish that combines succulent prawns with the rich and savory flavors of soy sauce, garlic, and a hint of sweetness. Here's a recipe to make this delicious dish:
    Ingredients:
    • 500g large prawns, cleaned and deveined
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon Caramel sauce
    • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
    • 1 teaspoon sugar (adjust to taste)
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
    • 2 inches of fresh ginger, thinly sliced
    • 2 stalks of spring onion, cut into 3cm lengths
    • 3 bird's eye chillies (optional or can opt for less spicy chilli)
    • 8 tablespoons cooking oil
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1 stalk spring onion, chopped (for garnish)
    • 1 red chilli, sliced (optional, for garnish)
    Instructions:
    1. Preparation: Clean and devein the prawns. Rinse them under cold water and pat them dry with a kitchen towel. Sprinkle with salt and set aside.
    2. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, caramel sauce, and oyster sauce. Stir and mix well.
    3. Heat up the wok and add the cleaned prawns. Pan-fry one side until cooked, then flip to the other side and cook for about 2 minutes until they are fully cooked. Remove the prawns from the wok and set aside.
    4. Add the sliced ginger to the wok and sauté until fragrant, then add the chopped garlic and sliced chilli. Sauté until slightly golden.
    5. Pour the prepared sauce into the wok, add sugar and water, and stir. Add the prawns, stirring well to coat them evenly with the sauce.
    6. Let it simmer for 1 minute, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly
    7. Add the chopped spring onion, give it a little stir, and turn off the heat.
    8. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with chopped spring onions and sliced red chilli if using. Serve hot with steamed rice.
    Tips:
    • Adjust the amount of sugar and soy sauce according to your taste preference.
    • For a spicier kick, you can add some sliced bird’s eye chillies to the sauce.
    • Be careful not to overcook the prawns, as they can become tough and rubbery.
Enjoy your Malaysian Soy Sauce Prawns!
