Don’t forget if you’re 100% disabled you need to get your cac from a rapids ID office. You can get on base, book accommodations, take space a flights, and more.
Great video, Jason. Have you gained base access with the card? I actually went into a local VA clinic to get my picture taken for the card and the administrator said I need a service connected disability to gain access - which I am applying for - then they would send me another card with that indication. Wondering if you had a different experience.
Hey Gus! Thanks! This is true, technically you need at least a 0% rating to be eligible for this card and the associated benefits. I no longer live near a base, so I haven't been able to test out the base access component yet. Perhaps next time I'm in SD.
Thank You! Just a heads up, I was turned away at JBPHH in Hawaii when using this card. The gate guard told me that with this card, I am not able to bring my spouse onto base... Is that correct? Did the rules change recently? Appreciate your videos.
Yes, that's what they did to me too (JBPHH). I had to go to the Visitor's Center and they gave me temporary access with my VA card for 1 year, and I had to get a pass for my spouse every time to get in. Not sure if it's because I'm a resident that they did that but my first time to go JBPHH, I went through exactly what you did. = (
I was let in the main entrance of camp Pendleton 9 years after I was discharged and I was waved in at the gate. No sticker on my car and did not ask for ID. Lol this was in 2013.
Inaccurate info. Base access using the VHIC is restricted to service connected or purple heart recipients , or former POWs which would be indicated on the card.
Depends on the base for sure, but if you’re a retiree living near a major installation, it can be nice to buy discounted liquor at the Class Six or groceries tax free.
Not all police stops are because a crime is committed stops are investigations first and foremost…. So if presented with id evidence during the investigation process and the alleged crime is not severe or totally proven the cop can out of good will or deference to the service member might offer an olive branch… it has happened. Or as we say in monopoly get out of jail free card every now and then…lol not litterally.

This is true. These are topics far beyond the scope of this video.
@@jasonburds I thought the video was great and informative. Just a reminder to the 💯 club they have some extra benefits. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Jason I have the service connected card with service connection on it , haven't used it yet❤
Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it

thank you! i can get on any other bases with no problem. ill check in with pass and id and see what they can do for me. appreciate you.
I have a Vhic but doesn’t say “Service related” is because I have not received a rating yet?
If you dontt have a rating, why would it say "service connected"?

That's wack. Someone wasn't doing their job. I was there in '13 and always got checked.
Or you an go to a va hospital and bring the items and they will take the pic and enter the info and apply for you….
Not everyone lives that close. Doing it from my living room sounds easier.
An easier way it to get it straight from the va hospital you use, took me 5 mins after my appointment!
Potentially depends on your clinic. Mine didn't offer that.
If you have this card are you eligible to go on base?
Yes
Brennon Prairie
Gerald Lodge

Romaguera Tunnel
Shanelle Ville
I avoid the VA. Why would a veteran need base access? Maybe someone with a disability has access to the base exchange?
There are amenities worth using if you live close by. Gas, groceries, beaches, etc.
Depends on the base for sure, but if you’re a retiree living near a major installation, it can be nice to buy discounted liquor at the Class Six or groceries tax free.
Do they expire?
No, a veteran can't use a VA ID card to get away from a crime.🤣
😂😂 when you put it like that...
