Christianity was invented as a man-made instrument of oppression whose stories were specifically designed to awe "the rabble" (as Eusebius et al. called their target demographic).
Although there are many kind, compassionate and sincere Christians out there, those men and women who use the Bible as a weapon to justify greed, hate, oppression, persecution are a cancer on society.

Well, that's the literal approach, when you see the bible as one coherent book instead of a compilation of novels, short texts and epistles from different authors and of different genres. I see the bible more as a book of storytelling and the human attempts to seek deeper meaning and elevate everyday living. I don't believe in gods and goddesses anymore, but I find the human story fascinating. I don't find it a waste of time to study the texts and learn more about the motivations of the authors and the literary styles they used to tell their stories.

It was a slow burn for me. Even in elementary school, my parents told me not to take certain things in the bible literally, such as the 6 day creation. By middle school, I learned to ignore the church's complaints about evolution because they were obviously ignorant of the facts. By high school, and I figured my particular denomination had to wrong, and if I was going to continue to believe, I needed to craft my own theology. I took several bible courses in college (it was a Christian university) and I realized the bible was wrong about a lot of things. Then I staked everything on morality; if there was an adequate secular explanation for morality, then I would stop believing. I took an ethics class, and that was it.

I remember as a kid in church always being confused as to why the pastor would read half of a story about Jesus from "Luke" and then the other half from "John". Or some other combination. Never just straight through all in one gospel. It was always "here is the first part of the story" followed by "and now we turn to John and...". The fact that the gospels all were supposed to cover the same events (Jesus's life start to finish) was never really made clear to me either for a long time. I feel it was a conscious decision because they knew letting people in on the secrete that each one was sometimes WILDLY different and contradictory would give the game away before i was fully indoctrinated.

@SCHOLARvid Probably never talked about in the full context. Its like how for Easter they would never read all the accounts, showcasing that they are different. They would probably pick whichever one they personally liked best, or best flowed into the sermon they wanted to preach. And anytime you did have a question, you were always told whatever was the quickest and easiest way to get you to be complaisant, truth and honesty be damned. Like if you asked "did the flood really happen?" Instead of getting an honest answer about actual history and varying takes on its authenticity or its usage as either literal history or allegory... you were told "yes and they actually found the Ark as well" and that was it. And being 9 or so that was enough.

Compare the versions of the "resurrection" - different days, different times of day, different witnesses, different numbers of "angels", different women. You'd think they could've at least got their story straight but it's because the original Bible didn't include a resurrection narrative - as we see with the Sinaiticus they kept adding random bits and pieces so it looks like different people added their own fabricated and conflicting resurrection narratives probably about the time they changed the sharpened stake to a cross.
And they had to invent the resurrection or how could Paul meet Jesus?

Yes, it's another of the horrid tales that were selectively left out from the approved tales of the bible. It was of Jephthah and the events that occurred as you mentioned. The story basically has to be left out because god is told as being: 1) Omnipotent - all-powerful without limits, 2) Omnipresent - at all times everywhere, and 3) Omniscient - all-knowing of the past, present, and future. So if that's the case how & why did he allow Jephthah to make such
an offering if he already knew what was going to happen., why didn't he make a chicken fly out or a dog come to greet him instead.

0:26 The issue with who spiced Jesus' body isn't a contradiction so much as it is a blatant error/sign of gospel embellishment. In ancient Jewish burial customs, spices are added to the body so that the people preparing the body and mourners don't have to smell the rotting corpse. Why would they add spices to a corpse that has already been buried for three days? There is no one around to be bothered by the odour. Bodies didn't NEED to be "anointed" with spices for any kind of religious cleansing. It makes no sense why the women would do this once the body is already locked away.
Whoever wrote the gospel of Mark wasn't fully aware of Jewish burial customs. The women coming to spice Jesus' body is a plot device used to get witnesses to the empty tomb. It's actually a really good argument against the historicity of the empty tomb.

You can’t just assume that all Christians are the same. The truth is that no one is perfect in knowledge or obedience except Jesus. There are people who claim that they are Christians but they have no knowledge. There’s no blackmail if you truly come to learn the word. In conclusion, don’t let what others say build the walls of what a Christian is. Only read what it says in the Bible to truly know what it means to be Christian. In reality, it is your choice whether you believe or not. If someone says that you’re going to “hell” if you don’t believe in God, they are obliviously steal God’s right of say to where someone goes in their afterlife. The whole "virgin birth" thing proves that the NT was fabricated by Greek speakers who weren't Jewish, and they used the Greek Septuagint as their source.

@Alias Fakename indeed!!! I was pointing out Judaism for the specifics of tracing Jesus’ lineage but it’s why patriarchy is so toxic because it’s been forced into cultures where it doesn’t belong! Including it’s own. Hell the patriarchal properties come from Greece and the replacement of its first major religion with the chthonic gods in equal step with their female partners (such as Persephone and Hades and why their the least toxic pairing in the pantheon) literally the Olympians defeating the titans was to winning of patriarchy over a fairer egalitarian leaning matriarchal social norm before it. Then the Bible is translated by the Greeks and adopted by the romans who further deminish the feminine from the Devine and replace the cultures of almost all of Europe

When asked about why there would be an update from the 1611 the answer is “to fix minor punctuation errors”. So of course I would say “Joys and tittles? So the 1611 wasn’t completely perfect and had to be fixed?“. I would the be poo-pood and told I was being rediculous, or even worse that the devil was trying to manipulate me. John 15:12-17
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other”
      "Love each another".
After speaking of love, Jesus deals with the hatred of those who reject the Word of God and who reject his disciples. He foretells that the world will hate and persecute Christians just as it hated and persecuted Himself. The world will be hostile to Jesus and consequently it will also hate those who live in his teaching.
Jesus therefore gives another teaching: the tribulations and persecutions to which they will be subject must not frighten them since they, strong in their faith, know that Christ, who has conquered the world, is in them. Jesus' friends are not left alone in persecutions and painful circumstances: they must know that the Defender will be beside them, the Spirit of truth who gave witness to Jesus, will also give it to them. But even the disciples living the very life of Christ will be an uninterrupted witness of his works. In fact, the Spirit, sent by the Father through the Son, will be the "soul" of the Church.
Jesus said: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church.

He answered by saying that they believe that Mary was somehow related to David. Besides that, the first thing they tell you in your first class is that a lot of the figurative language has been lost, so they have to make educated guesses as to which expressions get to be translated literally. Yes, jewish lineage is passed on by the mother, they inherit titles/property/etc from the father. So this checks out. Also to counter the whole "there's more generations between x date and y date on this side than there are on that side" argument. I'll just say...In modern times, we have teen moms, and we have women who have children in their 30s. It's not too far fetched to say they weren't coordinating their pregnancies or anything, so odds are, if you're just tracing the lineage, the chance of having more generations on one side is high.

I like the idea a character in Foucault's Pendulum (by Umberto Eco) thinks about: some time around 50AD or so some people came together and did a storytelling contest: they create a guy, agree upon some essential plot lines and the rest everybody can develop for themselves to see who does it best. The problem: the stories land in the hands of friends who like them, tell them their friends who know nothing about the contest but write them down/copy them for their friends. start believing in them, ... - and when the original authors notice what happens it's too late: Paul already had his vision, the romans start checking this strange new cult, other authors write their own stories in this shared universe, ...
Sure, that's surely not what really happend, but it's a nice theory 🙂 - and would explain some new testament contradictions

Sometimes the simplest explanation is True. The Hebrews wrote in Hebrew, the romans wrote in greek.
The so-called modern scholars, like to say Mark was written first and that “Matthew” copied from “Mark” Because it is the least flattering. Under this assumption the least accurate or most degraded document would be called first/original. If “Matthew Copied from “Mark”, then did Messiah really say, in Mark 16: 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover? If so why didn’t Matthew mention it? He didn’t believe it? He didn’t think it was important? No, Mark was written by a roman, copying from “Matthew” in roman; to destroy the message of The Messiah, by linking it with spauls’ blasphemous greek gospel to the greeks.
In Matthew and Luke the genealogies are a contradiction. Matthew said the woman held Him by the feet and worshipped Him. Luke says that Jesus said, don't touch me for I have not yet ascended to My Father. Spaul contradicts all the other 40 Inspired Hebrew Books including “Matthew”.
Old Testament so called "contradictions" or copy errors are few and can be easily explained with proper translation. In the "New Testament" (Hebrew/greek), there are many irreconcilable differences. Because only Matthew was originally written in Hebrew. "Matthew" was written anomalously/untitled. It is The Testament of Messiah the last Inspired book.
The roman/greek books that fallow are full of roman lies, propaganda and contradictions; so the gentiles wouldn't become Jews in Jesus and obey The Law.
HalaluYah Brothers and Sisters!!! Yah didn't start speaking greek after they killed His Only Begotten Son.
Rome is the beast of Daniel 7 that was given power (the roman cannon) over the saints for a season. Jesus is coming soon. Heavenly Father Bless You...

I interpret fulfilling the law as finishing out the morality and laws paved out in the old testament, especially considering that he emphasizes "I come to fulfill it, not abolish it" another verse says "follow the law of the land" which in the context of the line would have been the Jewish law of the old testament, the notion that Jesus' resurrection made it so old testament laws are invalid is a misconception most likely conjured by Christians who could no longer explain away the horrible morals contained within it

It never really felt right but because I believed in God I thought something must have been wrong with me so I tried to ignore it. I would walk away several times in my life but eventually try again. Several years ago I had given up again and wasn't looking to seek anymore. Then about a year ago I found myself coming home from work at night and turning on RUclips on my big screen TV and trying to find something that seemed to be right. I would drink my coffee as I went from one crazy so called Christian teaching video after another. After several nights and maybe a hundred or so of these videos I found one that right away was different. It was a channel ran by a husband and wife who were Iranian ex Muslims! My mind was blown!!! I thought what is this?! All the crap I had learned from 38 years of religious lies were trying to fight against it. But it was as if my heart was reaching outside my body and trying to grab the words that were in the air! Lie after lie was washed away each night. You mentioned 2 Samuel 24 and 1 Chronicles 21 in this video. This married couple has an amazing video titled (WHO IS SATAN IN THE BOOK OF JOB) where they teach what is going on in that book and what is going on in the two scriptures just mentioned. It might be the most freeing and mind blowing truth I've ever heard. The name of the RUclips channel, if you want to check it out is called (PERFECTED BY BLOOD.) It's ran by Masoud and Rose Ramandi. We are told that an all-seeing, all-knowing God failed to pick a single disciple who was a scribe and that no one kept notes in real time. How can an all-seeing, all-knowing God make such an error? That despite waiting 40 years, he did not include any history of 40 years of the disciples subsequent lives and missions? You contend that he lived through the plague that hit Jerusalem prior to the revolution and wrote his gospel a year or two before the destruction of the temple? Concerning Genealogy, I've done a lot of it. I've always attempted to find at least two different third-party sources to confirm the relationship, often very difficult because of how often common names can result in up to 20 choices. There are times the names are so generic and all I have is a time range, I have very little faith that I've found the correct individual. I choose not to list them so I get gaps. In the Bible, the two lists of ancestors don't add non-matching names, only subtract. I would chalk this up to one writer obtaining more proof or being more accepting of the proof than the other. I wouldn't call it a contradiction in itself, only that it contradicts the claim of infallibility. You make that claim later but not on this point. Perhaps it is unspoken but I would encourage you to clarify in the future concerning this point.

I think contradictions like this don’t interest me much anymore because I don’t think the intent of any of the biblical texts was to provide a historically, scientifically, etc accurate account, but a theological one. This initially allowed me to continue believing the “truth” of the Bible without needing to rely on its “accuracy”. It allowed for myth and allowed me to discard many of its clearly socioculturally specific commands.
That said, at a certain point I realized that I was still basically drawing an arbitrary line. I.e. If the historical, scientific, moral claims of the Bible weren’t factual claims, then how could I consider the theological claims to be factual? My basis of belief in the spiritual was the presumption that these spiritual encounters with god “really happened,” even if the details of the story were subject to culture, translation, mythologizing, etc. over time. But I had no historical reason to believe that any version of those divine encounters ever occurred - I was just taking it on faith. That was really the moment that I first admitted I was an atheist.
My point (now that this comment has shifted into something else entirely 😆), is that discrepancies like this I believe can easily be explained by the fact that authors had 1) received different traditions of the narrative, 2) had a specific intent/agenda/theme they wanted to communicate, 3) the details of their account served the story they intended to tell, and 4) they didn’t have the same concept of historicity that we do today. Those things can be true without the underlying event being false. I don’t believe the resurrection happened at all, but this type of contradiction (to me) falls more into nitpicking, and more liberal traditions of interpretation of scripture won’t be tripped up by it.
I guess at this point I’m more interested in narrative or theological contradictions. Or also, rather than pointing out internal contradictions, I’m interested in seeing the many ways the Bible is NOT unique, how it’s just like any other human religious text. In understanding how sociocultural/political/historical contexts, events, and sources influenced the human writers/editors of the Bible (e.g. 2nd temple Judaism, apocalyptic literature, etc.). Accounts of Caesar “ascending to heaven” was a good example in your video actually.
Many apologies for the long post! I just stumbled across your channel after watching a lot from Genetically Modified Skeptic recently, and I have really enjoyed your work. Thank you for your awesome work. Religious fanatics are the single greatest cause of unnecessary suffering in the modern world. The bogus genealogies is one of my favourite contradictions that proves the profane origins of this *man-made collection of fairytales for gullible idiots* To anyone honest who has studied the Bible and Ancient History it is *glaringly obvious the Bible was written by men (most likely Greeks) who were not Jewish, did not speak Hebrew , were totally ignorant of Jewish culture, unfamiliar with the geography of the region, using other texts as their source material - most likely Josephus' **_De Bello Iudaico_*
*The Jesus figure was invented using a checklist of Old Testament prophecies* - except the writers were using the Septuagint as a reference so they mistranslated some of the prophecies, like the one about him being born to a young girl. Which they misunderstood to mean a "virgin".
Interestingly *the virgin birth wasn't invented until the 4th century as it's absent from the earliest Bibles, ie., the Codex Sinaiticus*
And because Jesus had to be of King David's blood they invented two *transparently fake genealogies* that actually *contradict the virgin birth narrative*
Because by making Jesus a descendant of David they mistakenly thought the descent had to be *via the father* and the male line even though kinship in Judaism was *matrilineal* so Jesus is *only a descendant of David through Joseph - but to fulfill the prophecy about the virgin birth Jesus is not the son of Joseph - so by trying to make their Jesus character fulfill two prophecies they make him fulfill neither*
*The Codex Sinaiticus proves what garbage the Bible is by exposing the 14,800 changes that were made to the story to fabricate the modern textus receptus*
*Among other things the original Bible had no cross (Jesus dies impaled on a sharpened stake, a "stauros"), no virgin birth, no resurrection narrative*
Another important observation is that *if you've only read a modern English language Bible you've never actually read the Bible*
For example the Bible does not prohibit homosexuality - it doesn't even mention it.
Homosexuality is an anachronism - it did not exist as a concept.
*The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was not anal sex - it was breaking the law of hospitality*
    Check out stopbibleabuse.org
Also, King James Version is not a translation of the Bible - *the KJV is royalist propaganda disguised as a Bible*
*The Bible doesn't stand up to honest scrutiny because it is a composite text written by many hands, constantly edited and altered*
Tischendorf - the Bible Scholar and former Vatican librarian who discovered the Codex Sinaiticus - suggested that the NT as we know it was *written in the 4th century and then they added the virgin birth, cross and resurrection narrative*
Incidentally the so-called church fathers who actually mention him have some very strange ideas about Jesus.
*Never ceases to amaze me how many Christians fail to grasp that the Bible itself - as well as every single American televangelist - meet the Bible's own diagnostic criteria for the work of the devil*
*False prophets just like the evil Westboro Baptist Church*

@@cedriceric9730 So Jesus's genetic inheritance and lineage came from imperfect men and women's DNA, through the scores of imperfect men and women passing on the imperfect DNA, and continuous mating of imperfect DNA, yet somehow, magically, he was either a " perfect man " or " God in the flesh " all of a sudden.
Again, you can not have it both ways.
-- the bible authors hadn't discovered DNA yet, and they also believed that the Sun traveled in motion over the Earth, as Joshua 10:12-13 reveals.
Please explain how this " perfect man " came from a lineage of imperfect DNA, and how that works, scientifically
--- remember that you need to convince other people, from other cultures ( for example, a Hindu believer ) that this is workable.
      So, go ahead and explain.

Mary was of the tribe of Judah and a descendant of David. Hence it could be said of her son Jesus that he “came to be from the offspring of David ACCORDING TO THE FLESH.” (Romans 1:3) Through his adoptive father Joseph, a descendant of David, Jesus had a LEGAL right to David’s throne, and through his mother, as the offspring and root of David, he held the natural hereditary right to the throne of David his father.
King David said to God at Psalm 139:16: “Your eyes even saw me as an embryo; All its parts were written in your BOOK. Regarding the days when they were formed, before any of them existed.” In poetic language, David speaks of an embryo developing according to the directions written in a preexisting “book,” or plan. This was written some 3,000 years ago-Its talking about DNA! Almighty God created humans, so obviously he would know how we’re made down to the molecular level. This is way before modern scientists discovered DNA 🧬 Yes, The Bible talked about it first!!

Isn't it also a contradiction that Paul basically says he cannot stop sinning in his flesh and always does what he doesn't want to do, whereas in 1st John Chapter 3 it says that those who sin and do unrighteousness have never even known God?

Radical Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong posited that Paul was gay. If he was so horny why not just get married? Spong believes that Paul's tortured thoughts were actually relieved when he came to the belief that god loved him as he was. That was Paul's Damascus Road experience.

@@annieoakley2925 Someone else brought up Song to me recently. Certainly a prolific writer and apologist for his point of view. And to be sure, easier to resolve that Paul might be gay (since he brings up male prostitutes in his anti-gay legalism, something that Christ never mentioned once in HIs ministry) vs believing in a magical visitation on a road that no one else can confirm and then grant this wedding crasher (into the group of the apostles) the authority of Christ which contradicts Jesus' (ostensibly the Savior to these folks) 1st Commandment. But one wouldn't be wrong to point out that Paul wasn't aware of the 1st Commandment because he never actually MET Christ, so....magic?
Magical thinking itself is a crazy claim for a couple reasons - apparently folks were "resurrected" a lot in this neighborhood, but such a unique event goes unremarked outside of those with a vested interest in selling the myth (magic being currency in those days, as mythology ran rampant, and was powerful to sell to the mostly illiterate population). And relying on magical thinking as a basis of reason is not logical or reasonable. If one wants to have the occasional "belief" that can be discarded and the premise still be true, that's one thing. The problem is that most of the magical thinkers rely on the magical thinking as the basis of their faith.
People can believe in Oz too. Or Santa Claus. Literally the same amount of reality (metaphorical, I suppose is a form or reality) to all these concepts.

You wouldn't have to ask this question if you were ever a part of a community of genuine believers ,
Sin is not an action , it's a nature
The fleshly body doesn't work quite well with spiritual laws , humans are spirit , soul ( mental / emotional) and body , if you live according to the spirit you will sin less and less and even up to nearly zero but in that journey you will realize that your body doesn't like that life and you will have to keep it in check.
Paul was disappointed in that despite his vast spiritual advancement he realized he was riding inside a body which plays by different rules!
Even the best of us realise we must remain disciplined otherwise we automatically slide into sin!
It's astounding that Paul was mature enough to even admit it.

@@cedriceric9730 "genuine believers" isn't an actual argument that speaks to veracity, but to cult like thinking. every group can claim they are the "genuine believers" and call you the heretic. Do you see this basic illogic you are applying?
Sin is indeed an action that is adjudged by the cult/religion in question, and is disagreed upon in Christianity via sect. Some think Catholicism is full of idol worshippers and pedophiles. Some think evangelicals are justifying greed with prosperity doctrines. Obviously those sects don't believe they are sinning.
Idolizing Paul as having any authority itself breaks Jesus' 1st Commandment and make no mistake, the only relationship Paul had with Christ was a claim by Paul that he saw Jesus in a vision.
Let's apply common sense to this. Anyone can claim to hear from God. Do we just accept that claim? No, if you were to see on television that some guy claimed that Jesus appeared to him, you'd have more questions than mindless acceptance.
God doesn't require us to discern less, He instructs us to test the fruits, and if the fruits are rotted (as they are in the Pharisees argument you make), then it cannot come from the Tree (Jesus).
Repent. Critically think. Read (more) so you understand your beliefs are contradicted by facts. You can still be stubborn and hold to bad beliefs, but man up and address the critiques. To avoid that is to stay in a stage of arrested development.
      God Bless.

I love how a person breaking free from the brainwashing is loosing faith. No one has lost any faith, we have just come to our senses.
Faith is belief in god without proof, that is what you are asking him to hold onto. Ignore all the proof that shows otherwise and believe in god.
There is a saying, know your enemy. Now enemy is a harsh word but lack of a better word it works. This is why atheists have an easy time debating believers, we were one ourselves so we know your tricks, the lies you come up with.
The lie you say here is god loves us all, if you knew what atheism was you'd know that is BS and to us a lie.
DISCLAIMER, someone (not Bussinheads24_7 here) may respond calling me a bot, talking about community tab, hurting kids, whining, they may even PARROT something I said, might even say some random asinine BS that has nothing to do with what was said at all and seems to come out of left field. Yet doesn't address what I said, scroll down to see examples of that.
This person is stalking me, he will reply and claim I just stalked him (I have no clue how that works that way), so given that you can see what their mental state is. Also he might seem to ramble on incoherently, want to know who, the one who responds to this point.
Fact is he might also acknowledge this is about him, and the only way he can know that is knowing what I said is true, as I never named him it will be telling.
If they do say something about community tab do listen to them but also check theirs.
Lastly the sad thing is, I won't respond to it yet it will have a one sided conversation with me, talk about desperate.
      Thanks.
