He is one of those actors whose presence on screen is so commanding that you never forget his performances. I will always be in awe of "The Young Pope", a masterpiece.
I love how educated Stephen Colbert is. Such a gift of a talk show host that he already knew enough about Henry the VIII that he and Jude could have a conversation about him without Jude having to do all the heavy lifting of explaining the history. Also, the fact that he immediately knew what book Jude was referring to in terms of his name (actually took me a second to remember "Jude the Obscure" even though I am familiar with it as well). It may seem like a little thing but, so many talk show hosts only stay up on recent pop culture history that having one with a larger frame of reference is just so nice. Actually, I feel like an indicator of how/why Stephen is so smart is shown by him immediately questioning Jude when Jude used London slang that he doesn't know. I've seen a lot of American interviewers/hosts obviously not understand a British term an actor has used (they'll get that questioning or blank look on their face) but, be too afraid/embarrassed to ask what it means. I think most hosts wouldn't have had the guts to interrupt Jude to ask. I know this is all such a sidebar but, just something I noticed.
Thank you for your comment. I too was thinking how smart he is. It’s really a testament to not only his family/parents but growing up in Charleston SC in the 80’s. I find that my peers seemed so much more exposed to the world than a host of others. I’m not as smart or well read as Steven but I recognize his story, our story of empathy, compassion and a quest for learning and knowledge.
I went to school with Jude... we all got on so well - the fabulous 70s - but can concur that there were a lot of Kevins, Barrys and so on. Happy Days. He was a demon at Bulldog!
@@DouglasRichardson-er4ky Trainspotting?! I cant imagine anyone who would be less suited to being in that movie! I'm not a huge fan, to be honest, but he does cold an distant well and was great in Gattaca.
I went to a McCartney concert. He ended with Hey Jude. I sang Hey Jude with Sir Paul McCartney. 😅 One of the best times of my life. I can just imagine how Jude felt 🥰 Love me some Sir Paul 💗
In the film King Arthur, Jude Law played an amazing villain, so complex, so evil, so selfish. He cries as he sacrifices his daughter for his greedy ambitions. I was conflicted between disgust and compassion. Well done. Hey, Jude! You rock!
I was at the show on the Gold Coast that November night, and looked to my left a handful of seats when Sir Paul pointed and made the dedication, to see a familiar but red face. It was a stunning night, over 40 songs long and only one Jude Law was broken publicly.
OMG love Jude Law, going to see this as soon as I can! 💝 Also, coincidentally, I just rewatched "The Other Boleyn Girl" recently which is part of the same story!
I love how he calls out Trump, paranoid, manipulative, power through threats, then he says, "Sounds familiar?" Oh yeah, Jude. It sure does. Love you Jude!
Yeah a theme throughout are people i grew up with and their children which i find to be a genuine thing that matters to me amd ejy i care that this turns out well.
I don't think I've watched any interviews of Jude Law before, but I could listen to many more. Can he do some stuff for the History Channel if he hasn't? I might actually retain some of the knowledge I temporarily gain from those shows. (History has always been my weakest subject 😕)
Stephen, didn't you see Jude Law in Guy Ritchie's film "King Arthur"? He played a very evil king in that movie. So I'm thinking that where the casting director got the idea to cast him for Henry the 8th part.
Catherine Parr was not the last of Henry VIII's Queens to survive him, Anne of Cleves was. Catherine died not long after he did whilst Anne was the last of the six to actually pass away. 🙂
Actually Anne of Cleves (the quickly annulled fourth wife) survived the Henry VIII experience just fine, retired to a castle, and outlived him quite a piece.
His real name is David, the family called him Jude which is his middle name, you can't be named after two different things written 73 years apart, or two different things at all.
I'd love it if Jude Law played Archie Goodwin & William Shatner as Nero Wolf, Ben Stiller as Saul Panzer bring the series back/ It needs to be done again Please don't say flumery
Wow, JL is still very handsome, but he's mostly a character actor now and not much of a leading man anymore. I remember his bathtub scene in Talented Mr. Ripley 😍. Can't blame the Matt Damon's character for being obsessed with him, LOL.
You must be demented?!? He is an amazingly talented actor, for years, The Holiday is nothing without him...that voice, that inflection and subtle facial nuances are unyielding.
He has an electrifying presence that is less to do with being handsome than being absolutely lit from within.
I just looked at his face and hairline and thought, why in the world is he still attractive?? You nailed it.
always a gem since that movie back in 1997 ruclips.net/video/bUhj5mBK8nQ/видео.html

My favorite was "Cold Mountain," but you are right he is amazing in every role! 💝
Dude was MESMERIZING in "The Young Pope" particularly if you grew up Catholic and have some familiarity with the Papacy.
I had a major crush on his role as The Young Pope! I'm not being sacrilegious! I'm Catholic 😉
Though he wasn't the lead, I think Road to Perdition may be his finest performance
He and Michael Fassbender. Both great👍🏴
He's a damn good actor and so damn likeable.
This man is like a fine wine 🥵
I'm a man and straight as an arrow but Jude Law, damn.

All good points. _Jude the Obscure_ probably needs a trigger warning these days, in fact most of Hardy's stories do.
I like your comment.

@@shawnaleagarvin2090 Sounds like a great place to grow up.
There's a reason why intellectuals pick Colbert as an interviewer. Michelle Obama did. Colbert is really smart.

Thank you for hosting such an articulate and introspective guest. Powerful stuff.
He's so beautiful and charming! Wonderful actor❤
He was and still a very handsome man 😍
Great actor too!
@@DouglasRichardson-er4ky absolutely
I literally doublechecked the date because I was sure this was from 20 years ago. Dude looks amazing. I will stan Jude forever.
My wife calls him "Yumbledore"
I had forgotten how marvellous he is!
And 'GATICA', which I think is such an underrated movie.
Gattaca

AI - definitely underrated, but he was phenomenal!
There is no I in the abbreviations for DNA Nucleobase. That's where the title comes from.
There is no reason for anyone to be that beautiful.
But tg he is 😉
A woman would procreate with him if he was half as handsome...proof that sometimes God’s just playin’
i love Jude Law so handsome still is just all movie star.
Outstanding Actor 🫶👏👏👏
He has charisma.
Both sherlock holmes were GOATed movies
Are not were.
Still hoping for a 3rd installment.
I'm attracted to his confidence and the special energy. Something is so charismatic.
Happy Father's Day
he is stunning

Love me some Sir Paul 💗
He is genuine,authentic ❤
No acknowledgment of a more enthusiastic audience response than normal. Classic Stephen
I will never forget Jude Law's magnificent performance in "AI" as Gigalo Joe. He was simply brilliant.
One of my favorite movies of all time!
In the film King Arthur, Jude Law played an amazing villain, so complex, so evil, so selfish. He cries as he sacrifices his daughter for his greedy ambitions. I was conflicted between disgust and compassion. Well done.
Hey, Jude! You rock!
Great movie, I hated his character in that movie because he was so evil! 😂
Hands down the best hysterical, crazed, over-the-top meltdown onscreen is his in "I ❤️ Huckabees" That proved he's more than just a pretty face.
Gorgeous talented Jude.
❤

The king os SNL guest hosts. Amazing!
Bond !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jude Law in GATACA...awesome.
Jude is an underrated actor
Good ol' Jude. What a talent.
Love Jude Law and his talent ❤❤❤❤
an amazing actor like sir alec guiness
"...clinging onto power with threats and manipulation. Sounds familiar...." Brilliant!!!!
Great! I told myself I wouldn’t cry this time, but nnnnoooooooo…all the Best Mr. Mrs. Colbert.
Jude is, a handsome man. Loved him in the war movie "Enemy At The Gates" as real life sniper Vasili.
OMG love Jude Law, going to see this as soon as I can! 💝 Also, coincidentally, I just rewatched "The Other Boleyn Girl" recently which is part of the same story!
Great assassin/photographer in “Road to Perdition “
"Sound familiar?" I hear you Jude.
I heard it, too 😊
Subtle but poignant
Even Jude Law is taking a jab at Don the Con😂
I'm from the UK, I suspect that Americans would be astonished by just how very much trump is HATED over here
God, seeing him makes me miss The Young Pope that was such a great show
❤ HOT HOT HOT 🔥
… Jude Law and Sting could be brothers by another Mother … 😉
That was my thinking too! 😁
OMG that was my first thought when he sat down, he looks like Sting! 😍
Loving Jude's side eye re: Wrong marriages. It's good to not take oneself so seriously. Cheers!
I love Jude Law in AI by Spielberg
I love how he calls out Trump, paranoid, manipulative, power through threats, then he says, "Sounds familiar?" Oh yeah, Jude. It sure does. Love you Jude!
All those acting experience paying off 😂
I could watch The Holiday a 100 times
That long explanation Jude gave at the end felt like a Meanwhile spiel lol

Jude Law 1 of 3
God, I love Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. One of the best movies of all time.
Is Jude making a (not so subtle) reference to Donald Trump at the end there? 🤔
No subtlety there whatsoever 😂
We all heard it and knew whom he meant. And he's not wrong 😊
Henry the 8th. was born in 1491 and died in 1547 so he was 55 when he died.
Spurs fan. Top man..
Paul McCartney? I thought he was a Liverpool of Everton fan.
Henry was actually 55 when he died, but Jude is certainly in the neighborhood with his age!
Their families mean a lot to a lot of ppl
To the degree my life is mixed in id prefer not to ruin those things or taint them
“I was a young pretty boy”… so what’s changed? Nothing at all 💜💜
He's insanely attractive

As someone with a similar hairline, I appreciate Jude leaning into the receding hairline and not trying to cover it up.
my favourite pope
he comes from the same part of london as keith richards (deptford)
Haha, the low-key political dig at the end made me chuckle.
A great way to end a segment 😊
Born 28th June 1491 and passed 28th January 1547..... 55 years old?
I liked the retro movie with the giant robots and the insane man with the space ark. Wish I could remember the name of it.
Catherine Parr was not the last of Henry VIII's Queens to survive him, Anne of Cleves was.
Catherine died not long after he did whilst Anne was the last of the six to actually pass away. 🙂
Please someone make a film about Phil Collins and cast Jude Law. Seriously!
I'm The Man Who Will Fight For Your Honor
Actually Anne of Cleves (the quickly annulled fourth wife) survived the Henry VIII experience just fine, retired to a castle, and outlived him quite a piece.
He played a brilliant British accented Russian in Enemy at the Gate. Great movie but that always drove me nuts lol
Loved that movie too, I think I've watched it at least three times! 😂
"sounds familiar?"...
Yes, yes it does.
I paused at 0:39 and caught Stephen showing off his laser eyes.
I'm just here to hear his accent!
His real name is David, the family called him Jude which is his middle name, you can't be named after two different things written 73 years apart, or two different things at all.
He should play Sting in a movie...
Amazing. It must have been amazing just to be there at a Paul McCartney concert, much less have a song dedicated. ❤
How he's maintained that hairline is truly amazing through all these years.
The widow's peak more pronounced now I'm not into dudes but Jude is a handsome man
