He looks like a gentle old man now, but Bill Gates the CEO version was an absolutely vicious businessman. First off, he took an existing operating system called 86-DOS and then bought out the license to use it, repackaged it and sold it to IBM as PC-DOS while retaining the rights to sell the same version of DOS as MS-DOS to other companies, and that's how Microsoft started in the 80s. That's shrewd. And then in the 90s he directed Microsoft to be as anti-competitive as possible pushing out OS/2 (IBM), Lotus, WordPerfect, Netscape and many other companies out of the market. Bill Gates looks nice now but he had killer instinct.

Well, what do you think he thinks?
He thinks the following things:
1) That Musk is kinda going against how democracy should work,
2) That Musk is a good businessman and a smart guy,
3) That by aligning with Trump the way he did, Musk was kinda ahead of the curve, moreso than Gates or Bezos in terms of reading the current trends and putting his business success first (because he obviously understood the system is changing a bit more than anyone expected a few years ago),
4) That fuck Elon Musk for being ahead of the curve and getting in front of Gates
5) That fuck Elon Musk for going against how democracy should work just to get ahead business-wise (while knowing deep down, way deep down, he'd maybe do the same if he was sure it's going to work).
And he probably doesn't want to openly bitch about Musk, because by complaining and attacking him, he'll be just propelling him up and making him look like the winner, while digging himself into a moralistic schtick he won't be then able to get out of without losing his image/face.
And although it sucks to admit it, he knows, by not attending or being called to the inauguration, he picked the losing team. As some people think once Trump's done, it will be back to how things used to be before, but it won't, the world is changing in more ways probably and Musk and co., for better or worse, got on top of it somehow, while Gates is behind talking about healthcare. As if that is what all these power hungry cutthroat businessmen people cared about - helping the poor have better health. They do want to do that, sure, but they want to be at the top maybe even a bit more.

Talking about making green stuff cheaper. That's the problem we have now. Every time I good green product comes out it costs more than the alternative. Like I've seen cutlery made of bamboo. If it costs 1 cent more than the plastic restaurants will give out the plastic.
The alternative is ban restaurants from giving out plastic utensils. Sometimes it goes beyond cheap, it's cheaper to dump all the raw sewage a city makes into the ocean, but there's some reason why we don't do that, and we pay for sewage cleanup before dumping it, even though it costs more.

If we’re all expected to pay extra for green products, work just a couple of days a week, and let AI handle most jobs, where are people supposed to get the money to keep up with the ever-rising cost of living?
Solar has decreased in price over 99% in the past 50 years and is now cheaper than Fossil. Is oil 99% cheaper than it was 50 years ago? No. Green energy will continue to get cheaper, near free at some point, as we unlock the technology to harness near limitless cheap power from fusion, and in the meantime capture the energy from the big fusion reactor in the sky, the sun. Much more logial and more efficient than explaining how you will make digging up finite Fossil fuels that were created during a brief time in history millions of years ago from when trees came into existence and the bacteria that could eat them evolved cheaper. Those days are numbered, and nobody is going to pay For dirty fuels when they can get clean for a small fraction of the price.
Also your question is only valid when viewed through a capitalism lense. When machines do all the work, and they will make human work obsolete, capitalism as an economic model will not work. Only capitalism could make virtually unlimited free labor a problem.

PC vs Mac is a marketing tactic that benefits both companies. Steve Jobs was a master at it: IBM vs. Apple, PC vs. Mac, iPhone vs. Android, Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates. Even within the company, he would pit the team Lisa and the team Macintosh against each other. Creating rivalries and having people choose sides somehow turns people into hardcore fans and is good publicity. Sports teams benefit from this quite a bit as well. It's quite possible a lot of these companies that are public rivals are just putting on a show and know it's all bs.

The problem with this is, that if nobody will have jobs, nobody will be able to afford and buy the products and services that are produced now almost exclusively by the AI machines. That's why the "AI race" is all backwards, at least from the perspective of common people. Countries who will "win" this race will fall into chaos, and only those will survive and prosper that curb AI usage. Of course billionares, like Gates and Musk would want their country to "win" the "AI race", because it would mean they would not have to pay people to do stuff for them, would not have to put up with unions, etc., but for Average Joe living in a country that's "winning the AI race" will be terrible.

1:45 I was a boy scout, went to scout camp and got my eagle, in some ways it was good memories, but I also hated it in a way, I hated camping, I did it because it was something important in case society falls apart I was prepared, but it was painfully boring a lot of the time. I'm in an doors person.

What a poor interview. Gates is a multifaceted person, and what a great opportunity for a more substantive conversation. Gates seemed ready to answer any question, Jimmy on the other hand seemed like a clueless 12 year old. I think Connor O’Brien could’ve done something, more entertaining, not to mention more thoughtful.

What is odd is that in the CNN interview Gates indicated that he hoped Trump would realize what he is doing is wrong. He mentioned his meeting with Trump. That idea that Trump might become a good guy seems very odd for Gates to say and delusional. Gates has held dying babies in extreme poverty areas in foreign countries.
