  • Tucked just inside loop 1604 is the Helotes Creek trailhead. It parallels 1604 behind all the new strip malls before joining up with the Culebra Creek trail which dead ends on a dike one way and at Culebra Creek park the other way. The Culebra Creek Trail is supposed to be extended all the way to Cathedral Rock Park and hook into the larger Leon Creek Trail system, but that's been a "future trail" for years and has yet to be started.
These two trails have a wide variety of landscape in their short 1.5 miles. From shady trees to engineered creek beds to help with flooding, to natural creek bottoms, to scrub grass and thick bushes, it makes for an interesting ride. Because of the length, it's better for walking and/or running, but if you're just up for a short ride around the very busy intersection of 1604 and Culebra, this is a great little trail!
