So I currently live in Corvallis Oregon, and I'm San Antonio bound next year. Compared to where I live, San Antonio is cheaper. Average home price here is almost $600,000. You can't find a one-bedroom apartment for under 900 a month. In the overall cost of living is much higher than San Antonio. Plus I spent three years in Houston, so I can handle Texas.
Hope you like hella crime. Never seen bars on windows and door and gated communities till I moved down here. Also we had 80 some days of over 100 heat. Hits ya different lol. Also learn Spanish because it’s 50/50 here
@@pb7133 well in case you didn't notice I used to live in Houston Texas. So the heat I'm used to. As for crime, I personally feel like Houston's is worse than San Antonio. Especially when it comes to homicides. Also I intend to learn Spanish. Even though I know a little.
Yeah, on a national average it's a bit cheaper, but do you really think if a place was desirable it would be cheap. There is a reason it's a bit cheaper here.
I wanted to move there back in 2015 but was offered a job instead in Austin. I turned it down but if it was SA I would have taken it. I do wonder about walking around at night with venomous snakes around though? Or running a lawn mower with kíllerBees around? Especially as I get older and have less mobility… but other than that really wanted to move out that way.
Hi, I liked the video. We are moving to Texas and we are thinking about San Antonio, we have 4 children, 2 of whom are teenagers, my oldest son plans to do CTE in high school, would you recommend San Antonio ?What is neighborhood in SA do you recommend to rent a house that is safe and has good schools?
They definitely are up there but compare it to Houston or Dallas. In the city of SA, you’re looking at 2.4-2.6%, in the suburbs, some areas are as low as 1.5-1.7% and you add the $100,000 homestead exemption on top of that and those low tax rate areas are much more reasonable.
Mostly everything in Texas is expensive. Property values are too high and wages not to good. I moved down to Texas from Arizona. It is a big difference. Arizona wages are really good and property value are decent and affordable.
I'll be moving here in the next few years I don't care what the cons are.. it's better than virginia.. I'll transfer my job and make san antonio home.. hope yall friendly bc I am
In Aug 2024 the unemployment rate is 4.10% which isn’t bad at all but unfortunately in San Antonio nobody will hire you let alone anyone else for that matter even though just about every company is hiring and desperately looking for employees, they still won’t hire anyone. Right now, San Antonio Texas is creating a much larger homeless population due to employers not hiring anybody even though they’re desperately in need for workers. This city is screwed up. I believe if an employer doesn’t hire anyone who is about to go homeless should get fined $3000
Sapd is horrible. due to the crime, the police treat everyone like a criminal. And have a bad habit of simply departing anyone that gets even a little out of control.
Why would anyone, other than a very wealthy person move here? The culture is about eating and staying overweight... there is no exercise culture because its always so hot, and eating unhealthy mexican food all the time is encouraged. The homeless population increases every year. There never was any homeless people living under the highways like there is now. I never saw tent cities growing up, now you can spot them in pockets all down the highway and inside ditches. The weather is always uncomfortable, humid, always hot or rainy. people are not as nice as the tourists claim them to be, because living here is a different case, people are very unfriendly and dont respond when you say hello. The boarder of Mexico is so close that lots of Fentanyl is being brought here because of this. San Antonio has become so much more dangerous than it has ever been. The only area that is ever talked about is the north side where houses are $400,000 to $600,000. Everywhere else like the south, west, and east side is ghetto, crime ridden or just plain poor and run down. The up and coming, less expensive neighborhoods were making progress with renovations until the pandemic and the homeless/migrant explosion. Now all the progression of putting money into the older neighborhoods has all but stopped, the remodeling of houses has slowed way down since 2019. I honestly do not see San Antonio ever recovering from this. The taxes and properties gets more expensive all the time, and the people in poorer areas have no longer put money into those neighborhoods. There is constant construction all the freaking time, nothing ever seems to be completed because they are always tearing up the freeways every 15 years to "expand" it. The city is just a headache to deal with all the time. Everything is so spread out it takes 30minutes or longer do anything or to get anywhere. Service everywhere is always subpar no matter if its a car wash, a tire shop or a resturant. The bus system is a joke and so is the entertainment scene. Anywhere you go anything you do, you always have to deal with rude unfriendly people at every gathering, every event and every social outing. San Antonio should be a place you try to escape from, not willingly flock to...
So these stupid sized hail storms will ANNIHLATE any solar panels, and car roofs, correct? This seems like a MAJOR problem. Lol. Like WAT? 6 INCHES? That would KILL you if it hit you!
I’ll just stay in southern CA despite disliking its democratic policies and government. I love the food here, diversity and weather. The only place I might consider is corpus Christy but floods and terrible weather steer me away.
@@Ufcfreak97 I don't understand why my fellow Californians would want to turn the places they live into California. Like, isn't that why you left the shithole in the first place?
I can’t speak for everyone but every single person who I’ve helped move here from California isn’t moving here because it’s cheaper. They’re moving here because it’s Texas and they want to live in and be a part of a place like Texas with the values we have. I don’t think those people are going to be ruining Texas.
@@LifeinSATX when they treat it like sa is cali it does something bad to our cultural ecosystem. It doesn't mix, if you get a bunch of cali people that bring cali with them then it slowly stops being what sa used to be. If they kept cali in cali and let the vibe set into them it stays sa. Also people are worried that too many people with deeper pockets are going to start driving the cost of living up. Take it from someone that's tapped in and comes from deep roots, we were doing just fine before cali came through. If it turns from a red to a blue state also is another factor because it will basically enforce what I typed before. People just want to hold onto what they remember this place being which was great. We don't need someone effing up the vibe. Also there is no way you're saying that therr aren't a fair amount comming here because it's cheaper, I've seen where more cali people choose to live and it's a house being built or in a home north of 350,000. There is a reason you don't see many that didn't have family here moving anywhere else and that's from seeing it first hand so many times. So either I have an astronomical string of coincidences going or there's more to it than "they're moving here because it's texas" and I'm open to that idea.
@@Ufcfreak97 in 1971, I moved out of San Antonio, where I grew up, to California, so I guess you could say I was a Texan ruining California. Am I that awful?
You made some good points but you forgot about the education is not good for our kids and it’s not up to standards as well as downtown is a dangerous place because of the homeless is getting worse and it’s pretty boring. We don’t have enough activities for our kids, but we do have amazing parks.

What specifically are you talking about here? Trust, I did plenty of research before making this video and if this is related to your previous comment, those tax values I mentioned are correct.
great video. I would add that it's not a city but a big country town, construction is ridiculous (start 100 projects and barely make progress on any), drivers are stupid main characters, HOAs exists because residents would destroy their property values so damn quick otherwise (refer back to country town), service providers suck, VIA is pointless and the reason you have homeless people in stoneoak, too many apartments being built in deep residential neighborhoods, and why are there so many damn lawyers!!! :D
Planning my families escape now. Not enough recreation here. Only thing to do is eat and drink. Crime is bad in the city too. Stray dog is no joke. They kill ppl sometimes. If you live in the city you will not be able to go on walks with your dog. I thought it was funny the first time I saw ppl walking with golf club or long stick to defend from strays and wild dogs.
I used to live in SA for a long time. I Do Not miss the liberal agenda and politics! I do miss the cheaper housing and food. My family moved to north Dallas (mostly Red leaning suburbs which is best). Crazy. Expensive up in north TX. !!! Our mortgage, property taxes, insurance (car and home) and other expenses doubled and tripled. Crazy differences. But worth it for the better opportunities for my kids!
Hi, we are thinking about going to SA, we have 4 children, 2 of whom are teenagers, and I read some things that left me confused and I don't know if it's the best option. My oldest son wants a high school that has CTE. Now you live in DFW, what do you think about it? What could you suggest to me please, I'm worried about the children.
@@katb4100 I haven’t lived in SA for years now. But doing a quick search I found that many if not all HS’s now offer CTE pathways. If you’re still planning to move there, What you need to figure out if what side of the city you want to locate to. The north side will offer better schools. Although there will be pockets of bad things happen everywhere, but as with any city, especially left leaning cities….the south and east side have most of the gangs, drugs, theft, and violent crimes. Be aware that the city has terrible traffic and infrastructure has not caught up with the growth.

Also learn Spanish because it’s 50/50 here
That’s the reason why I am moving to San Antonio next year because of the affordability.

I’ve been all over this country and outside it,,, and the best cheese enchiladas are at Blanco Cafe in SA.
Moving back there but idk when

I like san antonio, thanks for your information, but when i was there many years ago it was not like that.good old days.

We are moving to Texas and we are thinking about San Antonio, we have 4 children, 2 of whom are teenagers, my oldest son plans to do CTE in high school, would you recommend San Antonio ?What is neighborhood in SA do you recommend to rent a house that is safe and has good schools?

Compared to Dallas we don't hold a candle but we're better than Austin so there's that lol

Yes, please don’t come here
So you’re telling me that the cities that produce the most wealth and provide the best job opportunities and revenue for the state are blue.
One thing I will say about San Antonio…. It is BORING.
Quite the super hot & humid desert with trees with construction EVERYWHERE lol
8:49 can you check your taxes before making your statements?
Not sure what you’re talking about here. The taxes I stated are correct.
The property taxes are sky high imo
They definitely are up there but compare it to Houston or Dallas. In the city of SA, you’re looking at 2.4-2.6%, in the suburbs, some areas are as low as 1.5-1.7% and you add the $100,000 homestead exemption on top of that and those low tax rate areas are much more reasonable.
Ok thank you 😮😮 😊 did not known 😊 wow
Can you do an update on the market here? Looking in cibolo
Yes we have it all come one come all
if you like to ride your bike, be prepared to get chased by stray dogs. 🤣 SA is insane.
And be prepared for heatstroke!
overpirced like FL TX NY CA .. same high crime ...
Mostly everything in Texas is expensive. Property values are too high and wages not to good. I moved down to Texas from Arizona. It is a big difference. Arizona wages are really good and property value are decent and affordable.
It’s insane how much houses are now, I don’t even look anymore 😂
I'll be moving here in the next few years I don't care what the cons are.. it's better than virginia.. I'll transfer my job and make san antonio home.. hope yall friendly bc I am
Yes, please don't move. we san Antonio's are help here 🙏
In Aug 2024 the unemployment rate is 4.10% which isn’t bad at all but unfortunately in San Antonio nobody will hire you let alone anyone else for that matter even though just about every company is hiring and desperately looking for employees, they still won’t hire anyone. Right now, San Antonio Texas is creating a much larger homeless population due to employers not hiring anybody even though they’re desperately in need for workers. This city is screwed up. I believe if an employer doesn’t hire anyone who is about to go homeless should get fined $3000

Yes people don't come to San Antonio, we are already over populated!!!
I agree… ready to go
Al the people
Saying they’re moving to SA bc it’s affordable y’all are gonna be the reason it becomes not. SMH
And yet it’s still the most affordable big city in Texas….
So these stupid sized hail storms will ANNIHLATE any solar panels, and car roofs, correct?
This seems like a MAJOR problem. Lol. Like WAT? 6 INCHES? That would KILL you if it hit you!

Damn Californians ruining Texas
@@Ufcfreak97 I don't understand why my fellow Californians would want to turn the places they live into California.
Like, isn't that why you left the shithole in the first place?
@@Mochachocakon problem people don't know they're the problem. It's like people that are "crazy", they don't see anything wrong but everyone else can.
You made some good points but you forgot about the education is not good for our kids and it’s not up to standards as well as downtown is a dangerous place because of the homeless is getting worse and it’s pretty boring. We don’t have enough activities for our kids, but we do have amazing parks.

Just do your research before attempting to make category statements of what you actually do not know.
Texas is very gerymandered towards the republican party . They cant win fairly .😅😅😅😅
Planning my families escape now. Not enough recreation here. Only thing to do is eat and drink. Crime is bad in the city too. Stray dog is no joke. They kill ppl sometimes. Our mortgage, property taxes, insurance (car and home) and other expenses doubled and tripled. Crazy differences. But worth it for the better opportunities for my kids!

Can you please tell me which side of San Antonio a nice area to buy a property where it is red area, climate, property taxes and insurance like homeowners insurance and car insurance. No tornadoes and hurricanes.
Can you give more specifics? Every county outside SA voted red two years ago, climate is the same everywhere, property taxes vary by the neighborhood in some cases, insurance will be a touch higher up on the north side of the city due to higher likelihood of hail but that’s a minimal difference, car insurance doesn’t matter what area you’re in, were too far inland for hurricanes, and tornadoes are extremely rare anywhere around the city.
