Ive been living in San Antonio for a couple years and I agree with the traffic, SA should invest in public transportation instead of mindlessly expanding the highway just for it to get heavy traffic again
We moved from Vancouver, WA to New Braunfels, TX when my wife finally retired. (8 years after I retired.) When planning for where we wanted to move, we discussed several options. First requirement, the cold and snow/ice. We wanted that to be near zero. Second, income tax, that definitely needed to be zero. Three, affordability. We had lived in San Antonio back in 1984, and I remember visiting New Braunfels' Landa Park during the Summer. Even though it was hot, the breeze was nice and made it quite comfortable. So, we set up a visit during the hottest time of year. So, we went In August, 2017...oops. Hurricane Harvey hit those days. Temp was in the 80's, but a very wet 80's. A bit windy too. But, the impact to New Braunfels was just a warm rainy day. Did some model home touring, and found prices nearly $100 K less than what our home was worth for the equivalent square footage. So we came back the next year and it was hot, but just as I remembered from when we lived in San Antonio. House prices were stable. So we decided to move to New Braunfels. Taxes were about the same, but we had the ability to homestead and were seniors, thus property taxes were lowered. Both retired, so traffic, eh..we did not need to go out during rush hour. By the way, compared to Portland, OR traffic or Seattle's, really no big deal anyway.
Property taxes have trip[ed in San Antonio in about 5 years. They say there has not been a property tax increase in 7 years. So how is it happening? They simply have been raising the property values exponentially to increase the taxes. And wasting the taxes with frivolous and unnecessary projects.
Exactly. Also, they have changed the actual year the house was built to an 'equivalent' year (a recent year) so they can jack up the 'equivalent' price of the house. It doesn't matter what your house is really worth, they just put their own number down on the paper and you end up paying on that. (yes, i know about protesting, and the board, and equivalent sales, etc. but that is a one-size-fits-all that they use to jack up 'alleged' home prices).
We are visiting soon to see if we like it. Wife has family there and I have one family member . Coming from Orlando , heat traffic is not much of an issue . I’m a truck driving and my wife is in the medical field so I’m pretty confident out there . Orlando minimum home price is about 350k-400k , Texas property taxes are higher but homes are cheaper. Mortgage can be about the same or less with more house . We’ll see 2026

This construction on highways at I35 & 1604 suck. Sooo many people moving here! Thanks to all these subdivisions popping up everywhere. You barely see a nice field of grass or native trees anymore. Coming soon! Opening soon signs all around. I’ve lived here all my life and Live Oak to New Braunfels can be bumper to bumper. But, once these overpasses and elevated roads are done; who knows when, it’ll be great! I hope 🤞🏽! Love where I live though and recommend SA or surrounding areas.

Being born and raised here in san antonio, the cost of living has gone up way high! To me its so expensive that that's why San antonio has alot of homeless people too! I found something interesting about SA. I can live for a month in an Extended Stay American place in SA for a month less than rent in a studio Apartment in Los Angeles County. This means I can go to SA and stay for a month for about the same as a month in Los Angeles County without committing to an apartment lease. For a single person with median level income renting might be chepaer than buying.
I chose the suburbs outside of Houston in a non flood area when moving from MD a year ago. San Antonio is boring, but great to raise a family. Cool thing about outside of Houston is close enough to city and still great to raise a family.
Yep, Houston has more knife fights and Dallas has more wheeling and dealing. However, SA is friendlier. As has been said, "It's the smallest big city ever"
Oh its violence in San Antonio big time people dont make as much money as in Dallas and Houston. I know local people in San Antonio. You must be on the outskirts of San Antonio. @happyzahn8031

Rents & house prices keep going up and up but jobs keep.paying the same low wages. I had to get a work from home with a NYC based company in order to afford the costs in a comfortable manner, not luxury living but decent, safe neighborhood. And YES the traffic is INSANE!! And I'm from NYC🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Hey, I've actually got a whole video on the San Antonio job market right here👇🏾 ruclips.net/video/9O5KMfOSp9Q/видео.html While it's true that incomes in SA are somewhat lower than other places, our cost of living is also a fraction of what it takes to live comfortably in most the rest of the country. Many of our clients we've helped move here were surprised to see how much more affordable it is to live here overall. Were you considering a move in the near future?
@@melissalopez5782 There's Horizon Pointe in Converse with homes in the 5-10yr old range and Springwood in Universal City that was built out in the early 2000's. I'm not familiar with any new gated communities currently developing in the Converse area. You'll definitely find more of them in Far North, Northwest, and Far West San Antonio. Were you looking to be in the Northeast/Converse area specifically?
I lived in Mississippi so the heat will bother me but I am okay with it. The bugs I hate specially wasps but I can handle those. My issue would be horse flies, those things are the worst. Any issues with horse flies?
Further south you will get those horse and deer flies. Wasp, scorpions, and tarantulas. Just in certain areas south and west. Thanks to all the people moving in, the houses are affordable to those moving in and raising it too far for the native Texans. Those moving in had higher wages in general compared to Texans.
I lived in SA 20 long years and as soon as I retired I left for good. The town is boring, the weather is hot and humid and the culture ..you either “belong” on not. My son lives there and loves it.
We have some of the top school districts in TX right here in San Antonio. The majority of our clients have settled in the Northside, Northeast, Medina, and Comal Independent School Districts for their exemplary rated schools. Those are all pretty large school districts that cover a good portion of San Antonio, Boerne, and New Braunfels so it gives you lots of options when it comes to deciding on where to live. Were you considering a move to the San Antonio area?
If you are from CA, you should stay there. Otherwise, come on down. You can easily look up many places to rent. Good ones not too far from med center and north are more expensive, prob 1500/mo 1brdm but a little father, maybe 35 min. are almost 1k near bitters and 181 but that;s actually closer to the new medical center.
I don't agree with a lot of what he is saying. He must be a realtor because he's leaving a few things out to make San Antonio better then it really is in the city and out.
If you aren't coming here merely to retire with a partner already then San Antonio is a horrible place to move to. Industry is very limited here, not many career fields you can find a job in. The lack of career jobs pushes many to leave San Antonio thus the dating scenes is horrible. The weather is horrible in the summer cause of course San Antonio is in Texas. The traffic could be worse, but is actually horrible considering San Antonio is only really worth retiring in. What little fun and things to do we have such as theme parks, etc, etc get boring and old fast considering that's basically the only thing to do in San Antonio. Downtown San Antonio is like the only thing to go and see and most of it is just places to go eat at. However the places to eat at are horrible due to the restaurants just being merely tourist traps. The only kind of food you'll probably ever find in San Antonio really is just tex mex. Etc etc, don't come to San Antonio, infact while Texas isn't really bad, I'd say don't come to Texas. The only people who think Texas is any good are those who care about moving to good cheap place to live more than moving to a place where there are things you can do.
He is leaving the job market out. Better to move outside of Dallas or Houston if you like fun and career. You can move in areas without flooding or tornadoes but close to those major cities to drive for work. San Antonio is a great place to visit but after a few activities, you will be bored for the long term and definitely don’t become unemployed in San Antonio. Longer time looking for a job.
@@michael2263 I disagree. I moved from MD to Katy tx and Texas has wayyyyy more to do. Events come and go regularly. In MD once you hike a few trials, travel to surrounding cities, you will be out of activities within a year or 2. Little events come to MD to keep the fun going.

If you stay ready you ain't got to get ready. where'd you get that from
Gr8 video bro.
Those hoodies people are looking at way too many videos.💯
What about the job market? Also jobs doesn't pay as much there
Hey, I've actually got a whole video on the San Antonio job market right here👇🏾
ruclips.net/video/9O5KMfOSp9Q/видео.html
While it's true that incomes in SA are somewhat lower than other places, our cost of living is also a fraction of what it takes to live comfortably in most the rest of the country. Many of our clients we've helped move here were surprised to see how much more affordable it is to live here overall.
Were you considering a move in the near future?
You’re hilarious.
I appreciate you😎‼️
Just move to Converse Texas…. North/East!!!!
Represent 💪🏾
Welcome! Been living in Converse for a year now. So far, so good though. I hope NE SA is treating you well.
Glad to hear you're enjoying Converse, it's growing so much right now😎‼️
Are there gated communities in converse ?
@@melissalopez5782 There's Horizon Pointe in Converse with homes in the 5-10yr old range and Springwood in Universal City that was built out in the early 2000's. I'm not familiar with any new gated communities currently developing in the Converse area. You'll definitely find more of them in Far North, Northwest, and Far West San Antonio. Were you looking to be in the Northeast/Converse area specifically?
San Antonio is very family oriented. If you are young and single Austin is better.
San Antonio used to be a city that was very affordable… not so much anymore
I lived in Mississippi so the heat will bother me but I am okay with it. The bugs I hate specially wasps but I can handle those. My issue would be horse flies, those things are the worst. Any issues with horse flies?
Further south you will get those horse and deer flies. Wasp, scorpions, and tarantulas. Just in certain areas south and west.
Thanks to all the people moving in, the houses are affordable to those moving in and raising it too far for the native Texans. Those moving in had higher wages in general compared to Texans.
I love SA ❤
San Antonio is nothing but a larger El Paso
This video want visit Texas and maybe move here over Florida
You should definitely come check out TX🤠
No. Move to Florida....
@@jenniferbryant2700 thank you Florida is my dream home just pick place be better for my business
@@jenniferbryant2700why?
Allergies: i would have been dead, if I had stayed in SA & Austin.
I lived in SA 20 long years and as soon as I retired I left for good. The town is boring, the weather is hot and humid and the culture ..you either “belong” on not. My son lives there and loves it.
How are the schools?
We have some of the top school districts in TX right here in San Antonio. The majority of our clients have settled in the Northside, Northeast, Medina, and Comal Independent School Districts for their exemplary rated schools.
Those are all pretty large school districts that cover a good portion of San Antonio, Boerne, and New Braunfels so it gives you lots of options when it comes to deciding on where to live.
Were you considering a move to the San Antonio area?
It's use to better and cheaper til all these outta towners came down here
It's called growth!!
Electricity is sky high!
Any insight on the viability of retiring to San Antonio as a renter?
If you are from CA, you should stay there. Otherwise, come on down. You can easily look up many places to rent. Good ones not too far from med center and north are more expensive, prob 1500/mo 1brdm but a little father, maybe 35 min. are almost 1k near bitters and 181 but that;s actually closer to the new medical center.
I don't agree with a lot of what he is saying. He must be a realtor because he's leaving a few things out to make San Antonio better then it really is in the city and out.
Can you please help elaborate / share details? Agreed this is quite a positive video.
@@Lovelysoulgirl1984 one man's trash is another man's treasure, however the reasoning for that is usually because the trash was better than what they already had.
So of my family lives there, not me I live in Pahoa Hawaii in my paid for home for free.
This was definitely a pitch
Move to San Antonio if you love your car broke into
San Antonio sucks - just kidding - I was there for 3.5 months - returning this year - Hill Country rocks - but i would never buy a house, the taxes are insane - RV Living , 1000 Trails, Castroville
The San Antonio area is losing people and the per capita income is falling...

Is Kirby a bad area/crime?
My family and I want to move to San Antonio
We can help with that😎... What's bringing you out this way?
Walking, hiking, biking with venomous snakes, mosquitos, criminals.

Is it lazy folks that work in service industry. In mississippi they are worst. All have an attitude and treat you like you bothering them. WTF happened to friendly service. They take their sweet time and if you make mistake to say you in hurry. That makes them slow down. They are miserable and want company. I avoid. I go self checkout whenever possible and no more fast food. Haf to get my tires rotated. After them ignoring me waiting to get service. I decided. Forget tires
A deer with no eyes
90% wow! Really not impressive.
Homes with no hoa's
Yep! We love that!
san antonio is trash the worst major city to live in next to houston
What makes it trash?
@@Marz62just drive near San Pedro by the Illegals sanctuary. They jump on your car to clean your windows with a dirty water bottle/towel and demand $
I disagree about Houston. The suburbs surrounding Houston are wayyyyy better than the areas around San Antonio. At least you have jobs in Houston. Don’t become unemployed in San Antonio or you will be homeless fast.
@@Marz62 I think lack of job market and it gets boring after a short amount of time. Great place to visit, boring to live.
Quit Fibbing!!! Living in SA is awesome!! And if you call this bad Traffic why don't you Move in with Gilligan nobody will bother you over there no boat no motor car not a single luxury like Robinson and Caruso as primitive as can be!
My family and I have been here for 6 months in the North Central area, and we love it! It's clean, and I very rarely see homeless people or stray animals. (I'm not sure if he mentions that in this video, but I've seen others talk about it)
Stop coming you’re ruining this city
