I'm so happy to be a part of the gaming industry, it's a hobby I can't outgrow regardless. The information you provided on gaming generations just wants to make me spend more money to relive those moments. This is why I like gaming, it provides this addicting experience you want to get from other games. Of course some of them are different, but it all depends on how you take it in. Subbed !!
Honestly, I could care less about the current console wars and keeping up on them. I'm 32 and I still love to play my NES and SNES - I'm perfectly content with that.
I don't get this whole brand-loyalty thing. I've played every major console to date aside from the ps4, xbox one (not the first one, the most recent one), and the wii u. I started with the NES, moved up to the snes, also owned a genesis, AND had a ps1 in the house. They're all good consoles. For me, it's all about the games and how the company treats the consumers.
Pdog Centra But this was in the past, and my consoles came from various sources. One from a family friend, one from my father, and one my mother got. FYI, the two were never together. The Playstation was hers, the Snes was for my sister to manage, and the genesis was mine. But we all played every single one.
I'll tell you this...when I took an advertising class back in '10, there was one word that had been defined in EVERY chapter of the textbook...and that was "brand loyalty." Making the consumer fight for why they think their favorite producer made the best product helped reel in new customers for the sake of profit. Your attitude is the right way to go, I think. Gamers may have quarrels based on PC, Sony, Nintendo, Indepedent, or Mainstream industry -- it doesn't matter. In the end, we all are gamers. As long as we can voice our concerns and know what is best for ourselves, companies can't touch us. We have the power of choice with our money.
jmfurgason Exactly. By casting aside brand loyalty, we become a voice in the industry, unbiased and honest. When what they are doing is harmful to the industry, we don't purchase their product. We honestly speak with our wallets.
They mention that the kinect was something that was a notable contribution from xbox, but the Wii and even the early PS2 camera came way before that. Regardless, the kinect was a huge failure and only became useful for voice commands at the end of its short life. I remember selling my old DS and Gameboy Advance for the kinect and I will never let myself have peace over the dumbest decision I've ever made.
+DeracodaChesseGaming No, I think it was really a mistake. If you look closely at the other generation videos, the generation year starts with the first console created for that generation. So 7th Gen should've been 2005-2009
I was born in 2002, and my first handheld was the Gameboy Advance SP, and the legendary PlayStation 2 was my first actual console, but I still have ROMs and Emulators from older generations.
I was born in 2001 my first video game was a SNES that my older sisters had we played Super Mario Bros, Pac-Man etc and we also had some joysticks you hook to the TV that had a few games on them my sister got a gameboy with Crash and a few other games and let me play it, then she got DS with New Super Mario Bros and Mario Party DS that is around the time my videogame skills picked up, then when I was 7 I went to a friend's house he had a PS2 and we played Star Wars Battlefront and that's when I learned about FPS games and then I got a Wii for Christmas and we had Wii Sports Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii that is when my videogame life began and a few years later I started playing games on computer then I got a Xbox 360 with Halo reach for Christmas 2012 now I have a 3DS XL, Wii U and Xbox 360 I've basically been around videogames my whole life
Can't say I'm much a fan of the new Consoles (Xbone and PS4 mainly).... I loved the SNES and N64, simple, got the job done, and did it well. Now we got buggy games, subscriptions just to play multiplayer, and performance that is outpaced by similarly priced PC's, especially when you take into account the price of games on PC (digital store sales) and the previously mentioned subscriptions. For me the best gaming at the moment is on PC and, thanks to some recent releases, Wii U. MS and Sony need to lift their game.
Started with the Atari 2600. NES was the first system I absolutely LOVED. If I have to choose, I'm still a Nintendo guy to this day, but I'm not anti-Sony or anti-Microsoft... I owned a PS, PS2, and Xbox360 (and needless to say, a PC). Just didn't have the time or money to get a PS3 but I'm still interested in getting one. I just love gaming and all the experiences it's given me. There is nothing quite like gaming from the old one player experiences, to playing with someone on your couch, to playing online now. I enjoy movies and books, but there is just something magical about interactive, immediate experiences.
My first console was Sega Mega Drive version 2.Good old times where SEGA was making consoles. Not like now or they still can blast straight into Console Market (Dreamcast 2 and Game Gear 2)
my first console was the 2600 then I got the NES but after that I didn't get another console until the PS2, I didn't need to all my friends were getting all the systems and buying all the games we liked so we just played on their systems (plus we were poor lol) still I was lucky I got to enjoy every console that has ever come out after the 2600 (even the neo geo)
Problem: Achievements being a 'new concept'. Activision did that 12 trillion years ago with the Activision game clubs where hitting certain milestones in their games would earn you a patch from said-game. Something tangible.
What about PC gamers. PC Gaming has certainly changed as well. I remember being a little kid and playing on a computer my brother stole from his school. I played Chess and C&C Red Alert for hours and some breakout clone. I fell in love with RTS games then. Also Battlefield got it's start on PC and I've been playing that for ages. Still never stopped me from buying consoles although the latest game console I own is the Xbox 360. I still play on a number of systems though. I play Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, NES, SNES, N64, PS1, and PS2 games still a lot. Thanks to things like the Everdrive, EZflash IV, and softmods on my PS2 combined with burned games, USB drives, and an internal HDD I get to enjoy many of the games I wish I had and game hacks and mods I always wanted. Still doesn't stop me from buying the actually games but it lets me try it before I buy it.
+Dr.German ,Awesome!!!.I started with a N64 and a PS1.I also have a PS2,Gamecube,Xbox 360 and PS4.To this very day I still play my N64 and PS1 more than my other consoles.I miss the good old days becauase it seems that the most of the gamers who grew up with Xbox 360,PS3,PS4 or a Xbox One as their 1st console don't appreciate the older consoles that shaped Modern Game Consoles and Games. But anyway are you German?.
I would say that the Wii U is the best video game console, just because in my opinion it has the best exclusives. The reason I'm only choosing due to exclusives is because if it's not an exclusive I can just play it on my pc.
I started of with the xbox 360. And it is pretty good. But I want the ps4 because it is awsome. And the ps3 and xbox one really aren't that advanced as the xbox one and ps4. And I still can't belive video games have evolved for 8 generations. My favorite video game console of all times was playstation.
Those were great videos. It's creating a hurricane of ideas in my brain! It's great. Who will win? Will there be more companies? Will microsoft, sony and nintendo die and some other company immerge? Maybe apple will have a second go at it and dominate it all. Where's a time machine when you need one!
Hi, there is an error on the date. The data should say from 2005 to 2012. I hope you fix the date because I want to use the video as a reference to my tesis. Thank you.
Console online gaming was popularised by the Sega Dreamcast, these "video game journalists" are unacceptable for not acknowledging that in the previous video.
I get a lot of hate from friends because I bought a wii u and they'd rather me sit down and play a generic shooter game with a story which 4 out of 10 people don't play attention to and yet I'm the one buying the "less amazing" console because I know the kind of games that I want to be playing
From all away from part 1 they also forgot about the gameboy color, advanced,sp and also nintendo dsi and xl and nintendo 3ds an xl and nintendo 2ds also the playstation portoble(psp) psp go and the playstation vita (ps vita)
shame this third vid seems to not tell us about the most important aspect of this generational war. The e3 xbox one always on line and destroying sharing games vs ps4s not needed online and share games always lol, this resulted in a 2-1 ps4 sales over xbox. Pats 1 and 2 were exellent.
I'm pretty sure consoles are going to disappear and it's going to become a service rendered through internet. So basically it's going to be like having Steam or Origin in your Smart TV.

+PeRuViAnRoNaLdO Nintendo is nowhere near bankrupt. They can keep spending the way they are and they will still be going strong with no money issues for over 50 years. They still thrive in the toy business and they own a friggin MLB baseball team (the Seattle Mariners) and they aren't losing money on the Wii U cuz so many people are throwing down money for Amiibos left and right. They're fine.
Hearing that many of everyones first console was xbox 360 and gamecube makes me feel so old LOL My first was NES and I loved everything about it. Please watch my videos...thanks
They omitted all of the handhelds as indicated by the fact that there is no mention of PSP or Vita either. While technically consoles, handhelds are generally considered a separate market than television boxes. I think it gets really muddled especially now as if you do decide to include handhelds, where do you draw the line? Tablets? Game playing phones? What about NVidia Shield?
38 years old gamer here ...the most excitement console I ever played was Sony PSX 1
03:37 - This is absolutely true. I ended up buying my Wii which was a Japanese import at a computer fair.
I'm so happy to be a part of the gaming industry, it's a hobby I can't outgrow regardless. Nintendo going into gen 8:
“This isn’t even my final form”
Honestly, I could care less about the current console wars and keeping up on them. I'm 32 and I still love to play my NES and SNES - I'm perfectly content with that.
"Genesis does what Nintendon't!"
do you mean rule?
lol rrriiiggghhhttt at least Nintendo still makes consoles and games LOL
If you could care less then that means you do care to some degree then....
You guys should do another series with handheld devices.
great videos, this channel deserves more subs
Thanks Andy!
TIME Why didn't you talk about the steam machiene? I know it isn't out yet but you still could have explained how it gets steam and everything.
Aikko77 Not a console it's a microconsole (Download only)
I don't get this whole brand-loyalty thing. I've played every major console to date aside from the ps4, xbox one (not the first one, the most recent one), and the wii u. Not everyone has the money to purchase each console

Right on!
An excellent look back at the history of video game!
8:06 *_"...because it was interactive and it wasn't passive."_* - 100% my words.
Thanks soooo much, now I know more about the history and generations, even the ones before myself
I really appreciate how far the history has come, and where it will go, unlike some naive teens my age
***** Thanks! But idk, I've always liked older games.
That foreshadowing at 6:37
It's time for a Part 4
Guys...did you know that Doug Aamoth's back hurts a lot? I don't think he said it enough times.
Just gonna glaze past the red ring of death
We need part four for the rest of the 8th generation now...
Thanks, I enjoyed watching all 3 even though I switched to PC gaming more than 20 years ago.
They mention that the kinect was something that was a notable contribution from xbox, but the Wii and even the early PS2 camera came way before that. “Huge failure”
*sold 24 million copies”
Isnt there a mistake at 0:07 ?
The 7th generation didint start in the year 1998
No are you ?
Do u need some glasses ? I think so idiot :)
DeracodaChesseGaming U talk trash idiot
+DeracodaChesseGaming No, I think it was really a mistake. If you look closely at the other generation videos, the generation year starts with the first console created for that generation. So 7th Gen should've been 2005-2009

Great Video!!!
1:28: TRON: LEGACY!
I was born in 2002, and my first handheld was the Gameboy Advance SP, and the legendary PlayStation 2 was my first actual console, but I still have ROMs and Emulators from older generations.
Video games have a special place in my heart

Liking wasn't enough! So I put a comment here.
😂😂😂
Micheal Phillip XD
Lol
One thing I hope never dies is the controller. I don't wanna get out of my couch and jump around or put some controller with a screen in my face.
I think video games will grow A LOT in the next couple of years
take a shot every time some one says "my back hurts" or "trojan horse" throughout this 3 part series
My first console was Sega Mega Drive version 2.Good old times where SEGA was making consoles. Not like now or they still can blast straight into Console Market (Dreamcast 2 and Game Gear 2)
i grew up with the game cube i would play super smash bros melee all day every day and only now i realize that you can fight giga bowser
There has been yet another generation since this documentary came out. Gen. 9
Best consols for me
1.ps2
2.snes
3.xbox 360
4.ps4
5.wii
Ahh, yes I remember the ps2.. Played all my favorite games with that one.
+xXx_illuminati_overload_xXx Not the Wii. It had good games was horrible hardware. Dreamcast would fit in better there. Or the Nintendo 64.
1. PS2
2. NES
3. PS1
4. SNES
5. PS4
6. WII
7. PS3
8. N64
9. Xbox360
10. Sega Genesis

Dreamcast. It's still dreaming.
Problem:
Achievements being a 'new concept'.
Activision did that 12 trillion years ago with the Activision game clubs where hitting certain milestones in their games would earn you a patch from said-game. Something tangible.
3 years later ps 4 is dominating and just crushed xbone
except for the simple fact is that the Xbone one X is stronger then the PS4 PRO
scifivideogames PC MASTER RACE
Dovic still couldn’t beat the sales figure. Not even a close fight.
i was around during the ps2 and xbox i miss crash bandicoot
I will be getting all three so I hope all three do well.
Part 4?
Great vid. But people have been playing on the pc for gaming since about the 80's and the most popular fps game is also on pc. (CS:GO)
ever since N64-PS1 days it doesn't matter anymore who sells more units it's all about games that are "fun" and all 3 have their own fun games.
6th gen was my first generation
5th gen was my favorite. And I began gaming in 3rd gen.
Super nintendo was my first and im 15.
fivesix6 I m 13 and my first console was the N64 ^^
I'm 12 my first consle was a PS2

these timeline don't add up the dates in the title. do you have updates?
Now Wii and U can play with POWER !
NINTENDO POWER !
SEGA POWER
Sega does what Nintendon't

the number 1 most played electronic game of all time is Angry Birds :-P
that should give a hint as to what the future holds for gaming.
citation needed
It would be so awesome if sega came back to life
But they won't.
they are to broke to even consider coming back
I had da first ps3 for my 7th bday and I believe it's the best
8:33 BACK TO THERE COMPUTERS?! THATS RIGHT NOW! NOT IN THE FUTURE!
Started for me with the Atari 2600 then N.E.S to complicated one two many buttons lol :)
We need a video update for the 9th generation
Interesting I recently bought the Pong console seen at 4:22 in the video
Hi, there is an error on the date. The data should say from 2005 to 2012. I hope you fix the date because I want to use the video as a reference to my tesis. Thank you.

Ha ha ha!! They put the Ouya as an 8th gen contender!? Bwaaaa ha ha ha!!!! That thing is a joke!!
My first console was gba haded lots of the legends of zelda games
My back hurts too!!
Hey whats the song at around 8:50?
I get a lot of hate from friends because I bought a wii u and they'd rather me sit down and play a generic shooter game with a story which 4 out of 10 people don't play attention to and yet I'm the one buying the "less amazing" console because I know the kind of games that I want to be playing
Damn the Wii for its motion controls! Thankfully, it doesn't appear motion controls have stuck around.
Make part 4
I find it strange that steam wasn't brought up at all.
Why no talking about the steam machene? I know it isn't out yet but still.
Exactly it's not out.
You should have put RROD as #4 on the 360
At least 60% of Microsoft fans know about it
I still have my 360
From all away from part 1 they also forgot about the gameboy color, advanced,sp and also nintendo dsi and xl and nintendo 3ds an xl and nintendo 2ds also the playstation portoble(psp) psp go and the playstation vita (ps vita)
My first generation was the 7th gernation
hey what's the name of the song at the start of the video? someone anyone?
nice videos, but they are still toys, thing is that the ones who still play haven't grown out of it.
shame this third vid seems to not tell us about the most important aspect of this generational war. The e3 xbox one always on line and destroying sharing games vs ps4s not needed online and share games always lol, this resulted in a 2-1 ps4 sales over xbox. Pats 1 and 2 were exellent.
I wonder how the steam machine will do when its out
Needs an update, Generation 9 now
Does anyone know what the song at the end is?
Is the Switch the start of the 9th generation?
I'm pretty sure consoles are going to disappear and it's going to become a service rendered through internet. So basically it's going to be like having Steam or Origin in your Smart TV.
Who the hell wants that????
Everyone will want that
TheEganGaming I doubt that.
But why? People won't have to pay that much anymore and you'll still have different companies that will make them so there will be more than one.
For some odd reason i feel like Nintendo is going to win this 8th generation console war. I have a 360 and the Wii U seems appealing to me all because of the new Mario Kart and Smash Bros.
Easy and yung players: nitendo. hardcore and cool players: xbox and ps (i have xbox one >:D )
They're great games and all, but 2 games won't revive a whole console.
PS4 has outsold the wii-u in less than 6 months when the wii-u has been out for more than a year, you do the math
Nope i am 15
+PeRuViAnRoNaLdO Nintendo is nowhere near bankrupt. They can keep spending the way they are and they will still be going strong with no money issues for over 50 years. PlayStation 4 the win!
Ha! Not one like.
*PC

Why can't we all be friends. Is it because our egos are too big to accept the fact that it's all about the game.
Hearing that many of everyones first console was xbox 360 and gamecube makes me feel so old LOL
My first was NES and I loved everything about it.
Please watch my videos...thanks
9th gen Nintendo switch Xbox one x ps5
I know it's about consoles but I'm sad they didn't mention home computers at all.
Microsoft,Sony and Nintendo are all great consols...I wish i could own them all.Why hate on something that gives great joy and fun.
Alex Serrano *Nintendo? Oh that brand who was good in the 90's and then past away.*
Favorite Consoles from different companies:
Microsoft: Xbox 360
Sony: PlayStation 2
Nintendo: Wii
I agree but I'd change Nintendo to the N64
They forgot DS, 2 DS, and 3DS
Are DSs consoles, though? There was no Game Boy in there either.
They omitted all of the handhelds as indicated by the fact that there is no mention of PSP or Vita either. They are talking about *_REAL_* consoles. And plus they already talked about a Nintendo console..
30 years? What's gonna happen? VR!
PC for the win!!!
the other side who are looking for. If you have a good time to get your own virus check before opening any attachments
I started with the Xbox box 360 want the new gem tough :/
Whose watching after switch was released
Now we’re in 9th generation of gaming
6:37
AND THEN NINTENDO SAID
shut thin face.
Xbox one is my first console
Is switch in the 9th generation
PlayStation nation FTW
Number 4 ring of death
The switch has picked up the Wii u's tortch to finish the 8th generation strong
Update: Now Nintendo has a switch and mini switch.
