I've read that the Xbox basically started out with a few guys at Microsoft tearing Dell laptops apart, slapping the hardware back together and basically building a console from scratch as a kind of pet project. The Xbox was the strongest console during the 6th generation (Xbox, PS2, Gamecube and Dreamcast) and was basically a computer. Open it up and you'll see a run of the mill DVD drive and a standard 3,5" HDD. You could even install Windows CE if you wanted to. The processor was a Intel Pentium III clocked at 733 MHz and the GPU was derived from an Nvidia Geforce 3.

Dude this console was so fucking awesome.... Getting my Xbox on December 25th 2001 along with Dead or Alive 3, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x, and Halo felt like winning the fucking lottery man.... My god if I could bottle the feeling I had opening that stuff and the enjoyment I got playing it that day, it would be like selling pure, unadulterated happiness, and I'd be rich. The only thing that topped it was getting my Dreamcast along with Sonic Adventure, Virtua Fighter 3TB, Soul Calibur, and Rippin' Riders back in 1999. Talk about two unimaginably amazing Christmases only 2 years apart.... Jeez what I would give to be able to go back and relive those moments... Some of the absolute best days of my life...
Eh, I was playing Quake 3 Arena online on my Dreamcast over a year earlier back in 2000, and having an absolute BLAST with my best buddy doing it. And it was FREE. So even though the Sega Saturn did it even earlier back in 1997, I'd say it was really the Dreamcast that brought online console gaming to us done right. Ask anyone who was playing Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Alien Front Online, NBA/NFL 2K1 etc. back in 2000 and they'll tell you Sega was doing it right too, and did it first, for free, and it was damn awesome.

I remember the Christmas that I received the first Xbox. GameCube was the next biggest Nintendo system and being from the n64 generation and full on Nintendo family, you could imagine how disappointing it was to open birthday/Christmas gift (was only allowed one present a year) and finding a then unknown green system that wasn't a Nintendo. I was probably around 11 at the time and no one has ever heard of the Xbox. Street gangs were a thing when I was in school but xbox kept me at home away from that life. It changed my life alot tbh. Bummer that Xbox one plans for launch caused me to jump to ps4 but Xbox will always have a place in my heart as the system that got me through rough times in life.

I have bought an xbox 360 only to play WWE RAW2 that was made for original xbox. Now Im also enjoying Wwe 2k14 and svr 2007. Now, if I had to play games that are generations apart on Playstation, I would have needed to buy 3 versions of the console. Xbox 360 is a beast that is backward compatible, and it just recently got obsolete.
I miss the Xbox Live HALO 2 online multiplayer days. All my buddies in one room, Mountain Dew, snacks, and our own TV's. We played for days and created a lot of good memories. Thanks Xbox.

My XBOX original is 11 years old. Runs perfectly but last week my dad gave me a bad converter and either my XBOX is destroyed or just the safety power cable. I ordered a new cable and am waiting to see if my XBOX still lives!...

It is dead :-) :-( I tried the new cable but the Xbox was killed :-( So I ordered a used Xbox for 60 Euro and it is like new. :-)
+Alex Kramer damn man at least you found a working xbox for a cheap price, but it's cool that you kept that Xbox for years, I still have my old consoles but sad they're all broken so I had to replace them as they years come by

+Andrew Ryan The Xbox 360 had it's issues with the early models I have one that was at the tail end of the original Xbox 360 designs production run and it still runs 5 years later.

One of my favorite games on Xbox! It was the first game that I ever played: Halo 3 back in 2007 on the 360!
I didn't even know MS was even involved with the dreamcast. What I was trying to point out was that MS picked up where Sega left off. The direction MS went in till the 360, would have been similar to the direction Sega would have gone in if they'd still be making consoles. The head of Sega USA influenced the Xbox 360's design/ features after he quit.
The Playstation 2 was able to go online, but that feature was barely used.
Yea..but did any games come out for it anymore? I haven't seen any.
