Ah yes, the modern Disney business model:
Step 1: Way overpay for an IP that only has value because of it's fanbase
Step 2: Hire activists instead of talent to create the product
Step 3: Release a product that completely alienates and insults the fanbase
Step 4: Blame the fans when there is inevitable backlash
    Step 5: ???
    Step 6: Profit
I still can't figure out why Disney is struggling so badly financially. 🤔

Pixar was making them cash, until they went woke.
Starwars was 1.5b to 2b movie money maker, until they went woke
Marvel could have made them 10s of billions, until they went woke
Buying a business with a built in fanatical customer base was a great decision. Deciding to go woke and killing the iP? Not so much

Seriously, I used to LOVE MCU, haven't enjoyed anything since Civil War... makes me want to take down my MCU videos, even though they're based on the characters more so utilizing some clips from MCU, I still don't want to support them in any manner. They act as if they built Marvel. The MCU wouldn't be anything if not for the source material, and us fans.
They wouldn't have a successful franchise if not for us fans who ALWAYS wanted the characters to come to life. Once they got fans in their pocket, they turned it into a political brainwashing machine.. and M-SHe-U sheep eat everything up, and defend it to the death. When the films, and shows SUCK lol... It's pathetic. Don't get me started on Star Wars. F disney.
Just made my own Captain America fan film 80's style on the channel, and it's proof to me that Disney is just doing it wrong, it's childish, immature, dull, not epic what so ever, never a scary villain, it's always cringe, corny costumes, and political non sense while man hating. I'll make my own Marvel content from now on. Thanks Disney.

I'm just over 67 cycles here on earth so I saw Disney before the Parks, I read the 1st edition of many Marvel and D.C. comic books, and no, I didn't save them. I saw all the classic animated Disney movies in the theater multiple times. It seems to me that Identity Politics and cinematic technology has become the focus of the entertainment industry. There are few truly great actors left and many of them are my age and older. They are the professional thespians who learned their craft before CGI, the Internet and the societal plague more commonly known as the 'Woke' movement. Hollywood used to be about entertaining now it is all about THE MESSAGE. It doesn't really matter if they 'stay the course' in 2023 and beyond because they will eventually run out of money. The sad thing is they've burned all their IP's/Production Units to the ground through a combination of over work, poor effort, activist messaging, alienation of the people who made those properties what they are and fan baiting. The one that honestly never really got off the ground though was Star Wars. I knew that was in trouble when they completely jettisoned the Expanded Universe. Then you get Kathleen Kennedy complaining that Star Wars doesn't have novels and comic books to go off of and I'm sitting there "Yes Kathy, Star Wars did have all of that, you guys through it out when Disney took over. In a way, I kind of feel for Chapek. He has become the fall guy for Disney's issues, but they aren't really on him, at least fully. He came in with a bunch of shows in production, most significantly completed, and had to try to be profitable with that content. He was stuck with directors and content creators under significant contracts that were producing poorly received content. In order to promote Disney +, the business degraded multiple key franchises to essentially TV shows of varying quality (some good and many poor) while destroying any focused plot narrative through these shows. And that doesn't include the losses of the streaming services themselves. The FL law that got Disney in hot water, Chapek tried to stay out of it, only to be dragged in by employees that resulted in problems with Disney's Park governance (vindictive politics here, but a problem Disney should have predicted given the actors). When Chapek tried to fix issues and fix the issues, it failed and he was fired, with any change of direction of films started during Chapek's tenure are unknown. Ironically, if the quality of the films and shows improve late this year or next year, we would have Chapek to thank for them. I think Chapek had his problems but given the hand he was dealt, he was destined to fail.

For example, they recycled animation between films so much that people began to notice. They started seeing credible competition from much smaller studios, like Don Bluth Productions. Still, the problem was merely that they went too cheap, got lazy, lost focus, etc. Robin Hood, for example, had animation problems, but it wasn't a divisive, ideological quagmire. It just goes to show that they "tried" to recreate the golden era of Marvel movies (phases 1-3) and failed horrendously. The horrific She-Hulk was an attempt to recreate Agents of SHIELD in the way it was connected to the movies that had also come out during the season it aired on TV. I liked Agents of SHIELD because of that, I am a normie, not a devoted comics reader so having that show connect to the movies was great. And Daredevil on Netflix, never watched it because by then Disney had already told me I wasn't welcome in the Marvel fandom anymore, they came out and attacked me for doing nothing. So I never watched it because it was connected to Marvel. Apparently I missed something good because of that, but then they took it away and proceeded to destroy Matt Murdock so guess I didn't miss much. Can't miss what I was never attached to in the first place.

Indeed, oldie but goodie: A new CEO was hired to take over a struggling company. The CEO who was stepping down met with him privately and presented him with three numbered envelopes. “Open these if you run into serious trouble,” he said.
Well, three months later sales and profits were still way down and the new CEO was catching a lot of heat. He began to panic but then he remembered the envelopes. He went to his drawer and took out the first envelope. The message read, “Blame your predecessor.” The new CEO called a press conference and explained that the previous CEO had left him with a real mess and it was taking a bit longer to clean it up than expected, but everything was on the right track. Satisfied with his comments, the press - and Wall Street - responded positively.
Another quarter went by and the company continued to struggle. Having learned from his previous experience, the CEO quickly opened the second envelope. The message read, “Reorganize.” So he fired key people, consolidated divisions and cut costs everywhere he could. This he did and Wall Street, and the press, applauded his efforts.
Three months passed and the company was still short on sales and profits. The CEO would have to figure out how to get through another tough earnings call. The CEO went to his office, closed the door and opened the third envelope. The message said, “Prepare three envelopes.”

Additionally one thing that really burns me about Disney is how many great movies and series they are hiding/pretending don't exist anymore. Dr Syn The Scarecrow series influenced the creation of Batman. The Swamp Fox starring Leslie Neilson was based on Col Francis Marion a Revolutionary War hero, the Mel Gibson movie The Patriot is also loosely based on Marion. In the late 80s Johnny Cash played an older Davy Crockett remembering the old days with President Andy Jackson before heading out to Texas to met his fate at the Alamo. The Fighting Prince of Donegal, The Happiest Millionaire, The One and Only Original Family Band. The 80s also saw a remake of Pollyanna called Polly starring Phyicia Rashad as Aunt Polly and Keshia Knight Pulliam as young Polly and it had a sequel Polly Comin Home. Totally Minnie was a favorite special of me and my sisters with guest stars like Elton John. Johnny Tremain is an excellent movie set in Boston leading up to the American Revolution from the perspective of a young silversmith apprentice who joins The Sons of Liberty and takes part in the Boston Tea Party with Sam Adams, Paul Revere and other historical figures making appearances. Why won't Disney show us their movies and shows but only a small portion? You will be watching The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe and on play next it will take you to SheHulk over Prince Caspian. They are force feeding you their modern stories that no one likes over their older quality content. They are self destructive with their eyes only on their own egos attached to modern stories that didn't make them famous let alone $$$$money. They are erasing the past so only their current crap is what people know because they cannot compare to past quality shows.

If they didn't make shyte content and blame people for not liking it then half their problems wouldn't exist as much. Doesn't look like they are even addressing their real problems so I don't think any restructuring is gonna matter at all. We will all watch this dumpster fire keep burning and dance around the flames because they deserve it! Great video Gary as always.

My brother isn't even not going to the theaters because the movies are bad. He just thinks it's a waste of money, which he can (and has) invested in his home entertainment system, and wait literally one more week to see it at home on streaming. Hollywood might actually do itself a favor by simply taking its time to add more features to the DVDs and digital sales to delay releasing them so quickly, and encourage people to enjoy the theatrical experience - but that requires a GOOD EXPERIENCE TOO.

I think the Disney execs including Bob Iger need to spend more time on the Carousel of Progress and the Walt Disney Museum in Hollywood Studios. The world fell in love and remained in love with the family values, patriotism, and entrepreneurship that Walt brought to the world.
I think everyone can agree that if they went back to the roots of the magic the company would prosper.

Disney' problem is far worse than bad movies and tv shows. You don't fire a CEO in the middle of the night and then not allow him say his good-byes unless something seriously wrong has been going on and is about to blow up in their faces. We're talking about the kind of problem that may get you federal time in a jail. If it were a simple failure to perform, we wouldn't see what we saw with Chepeks hurried, middle-of the-night style disappearing.

Yeah, it's strange. I certainly wonder what Christine McCarthy's role was in all this, as she's the Chief Financial Officer and was the one who went to the Board in "concern" over Chapek. And also in light of the financial malfeasances he's been accused of post-firing, which it seems strange the CFO wouldn't have known about (if true). Incidentally she is now considered to be Iger's successor.

When Iger finally decides to kick Kennedy out, I might have enough trust to get Disney+ again. That's probably the only singular thing that will structurally benefit the quality of Star Wars. Another good thing for Iger to do might be forcing the people over at Pixar to do a mental test, one that happens to include a few questions to gauge how likely they are to use subliminal messaging in content and other ways to propagandize entertainment material, if those questions are answered a certain way, decide their employment status accordingly. If things like that don't happen, no amount of paper pushing will ever fix anything. But hey, what do I know, maybe ignoring the majority of your customerbase is a grand business strategy, well, probably, in Klaus Schwab's Wondrous World of Tomorrow that is... Now I'm wondering, have I just given them an idea for a new themed attraction in Disney World?
