Bathroom drywall is hung! Yay!
Why did you just go to the edge of the tub with the drywall. I've have always seen it covering the flat top.
drywall is supposed to go over tub mounting lip
I tell you all the truth, later you will realize just how precious these memories are that you are all creating. What a beautiful family you are. It’s not about the house it’s about the priceless memories your all building, and how they will act as a firm foundation for your beautiful children. How rich you all are. God bless.
The look on your daughter's face when she cut the drywall ---- Priceless !!! She's a natural, and if her career fails, she has something to fall back on, lol
I thought that the drywall was suppose to go over the nailing flange at the top of the shower?
I was thinking the same thing.. all my bathroom tub enclosures are done that way.. never had a problem with moisture getting into the drywall..
I always cut a section of plywood to go over the tub. Try using WD-40 on the sticker. It's great for dissolving that sticky stuff. Get a rag and spray it on the sticker and the rag. Tape the rag over the sticker then tape a block of wood on the rag. Let it sit for 30 mins and see what happens. It should take off the sticker without damage to the tub.
Use your larger scrap drywall in the closet where extra tape seams will go unnoticed. You can also use it in your out buildings with extra insulation to help take temperature spikes out of your solar equipment and keep the battery warmer at low outdoor temps.
I was thinking the same thing fill the closets with scraps
One way to help protect your bathtub during construction is to cut out a piece of plywood just large enough to cover the tub. Keeps tools and other construction debris from falling in and scratching the finish.
Use WD 40 to remove your stickers works a treat good luck Kev UK.
I suggest getting a drywall orbital sander it's on a pole and hooks up to your vacuum and helps keep down dust while sand and saves your arms from feeling like they are going to fall off from sanding so much lol
Martin you are supposed to set the tape into the mud you are filling the gaps with so it can be smoothed out flat. Now you will have to sand the first layer smooth so the tape will lay flat on the wall and ceiling. Making more work for yourself. That aside you guys are doing a great job. The place is looking great.
Not sure if you ever did drywall before, but I have. What he did is correct practice, pre-fill, tape, then coat, and then sand. If you need to sand between coats, ya need to get more time with a knife!
@@davidlang576 - I was just getting ready to say basically the same thing when I saw your comment. Pre-filling larger cracks is a good practice. Even a lot of professionals won't bother but it is a good thing to do. I made a point to hire one contractor over the others because he made a point to pre-fill.
Seems to me the drywall is supposed to overlap the nailing flange on the shower surround....
Yep. Fiberglass enclosure should have been s reward to the studs and Sheetrock OVER the fiberglass.
Yes Sheetrock over wall flange
Hey guys, shouldn't the drywall cover the nailing flange around the tub insert?
Julie, to get the adhesive off the shower, use rubbing alcohol. It won't damage the fiberglass and removes all the adhesive.
You might have needed to have you Sheetrock cover that nailing flange around the tub. You will probably have to insert something in the ‘hole’ before finishing that area to make it flat.
Hi Johnsons: Just checking in. How slow am I? Sarah smile is great. Great teeth. Pretty young woman...Y'all are really ROCKING! 21 and counting😎🙄!!
So cute. Sara laughs just like Jules. Happy sheetrocking guys.
i was going to say the same thing
Possibly utilize the extra sheet rock for a dog house or for the chickens homes. They would be so spoiled but comfy.
Yes! I did my wall push ups today. And I have watched every episode and have done my push ups everyday. I can’t do them as fast as you all, so I pause your video, usually before you even start, do mine, and then sit and watch you do yours. I am feeling benefits in my shoulders, back and chest.
You should have let the drywall over hang the lip on the tub to insure no behind the wall leaks. That's why there is a lip. Mike
WD-40 for the win on the stickers. Works wonders as well as a water repellant! Safe for all plastics as well. It softens the glue from the stickers. I use it all the time.
Oh Julie, I forgot to answer your question on tips to get the stickers off tub safely. Goo Gone is my favorite. We have built many homes and it’s my go to for sticker/adhesive removal. Again, thank you for your positivity and big smiles every episode. Your family always lifts my spirits!
So glad you're watching the Vancouver Carpenter for Drywall reference. He knows his stuff, and if you follow his advice you won't go wrong.
You have to tape your seams with either paper tape or fiber glass. Those seams will cack as they are independent of the wall board. You will have cracks the purpose of the tape is to hide it. Also outside corners should be reinforced.
It is always for tomorrow, place a temporary roof, extend the railing support beams and with a steel sheet the problem is solved, as I said the other day, a sheet of steel and some pieces of wood are cheaper than one hospital bill.
I think you're supposed to overlap the drywall over the lip of the shower insert to prevent over mudding.
You might consider draping plastic down your stairs at the end of your workday to catch anything that might accumulate overnight, kinda like what I do on my windshield to mitigate the need to scrape in the morning.
drywall should come down to about 1/4 in from tub then there are stirps to mud and provide a clean look
Soak the paper with some WD-40 to remove the stickers from the bathtub enclosure. Use a micro fiber towel to help loosen and clean off the paper and glue!
You can shred the scrap drywall into fine enough pieces and spread it all over your lawn and garden. It is good for the soil.
Marty, I believe you were in the military so you should remember that when counting out pushups you call it out after you finish it. In other words, go down to the floor then push up and say "one" at the top of the motion. Repeat for subsequent pushups. With that said, I'm impressed with how easy you make it look.
Heated air usually helps to remove the stickers, when I was young in the -80’s I used a hair dryer to remove the stickers from my precious lp record covers. I guess a heat gun would work for you
We use extra sheetrock for pothole fillers in the streets here in El Papalote, Baja Mexico. As it is driven over it pulverizes into powder and the paper needs to be burned. However at least the potholes are less of a problem. Crazy solution, isn't it?
Goo-gone for the label, it's actually magic. We keep a bottle handy and it comes in handy more than we thought
Sarah should makes more vlogs.. i love sarah. She is a good video maker.☘
I use 45 minute and 90-minute mud (have to mix it) for the first and second coats. If a third coat is needed I go with the premix finish blend and thin it out. For cracks, I always fill them with 20-minute mud. I run a thin blade once over where I filled the cracks and then when it dries I run another blade over it. I make sure no high spots and then I tape using the 45-minute mud. I rarely sand the first coat.
Use the scrap pieces of drywall in the downstairs area when you decide to sheetrock it.
Try a hair dryer on those stickers. The larger pieces of drywall use in the closets if you’re getting short on full sheets
You could see if any friends/ neighbors need the sheet rock/ dry wall. Or “insulate” the chicken coop or wood shed or work shed.
Bathroom is looking great!
Use the left over drywall in the chicken coop would add a layer between them and the weather
Mayonnaise work great for those stickers just put it on and let it sit a little while and it normally takes the residue off.
The extra sheetrock is gypsum and can be strown pn any areas where you have clay, hard packed soil and it will loosen the soil as well as make it sweeter. Don't take it to the dump. Spread it around and in a while it'll disappear including the paper. Mike
Easy way to break your dry wall, cut/score, snap one way, then snap back the other way, saves cutting paper on back edge, and clean aswell👍
Use the scrap for the main house when you can. 👍🏾
Goof-off or Goo Gone should work on the bathtub sticker residue . Never discount rubbing alcohol too.
before you get too far. Have you thought about a outside light above the stairway. Waterproof switch at bottom inside switch at top. Could help at night.
Your daughter is so beautiful, countenance and (rawach) spirit. A joy to see your family together. As a great gramma I do not do the pushups but definitely cheer yous on. You are all doing such a fine job.
Use the scraps to frame out your windows
The sheets remnants, perhaps use it for area like garage...or bathroom downstairs, other outbuildings...or small areas..corridors.
Build a New chicken shed, insulate the walls.. then use.the sheetrocks....good to Keep it warm in winter cool in the summer...
The only thing one would need to stack neatly around the corner.. downstairs somewhere away from rain etc...
Re:
Remove stickers spray WD 40,or water mix vinegar..spray and soak it.
hi martin julie and sarah how you doeing looking good nice progress you make and sarah is so cute she has the same laugh as julie hahah
to remove stickers you can use oil that you use for cooking
use acetone or adhesive remover to get rid of the glue residue.
My husband suggested putting the drywall in your garden and rototilling it in.
We love your channel! You are all so positive and uplifting, thank you! My hubby and I watch you’ll your videos. We have been in construction business for decades. We have a drywall tip for you, use the drywall square as your cutting guide. You can eliminate using the pencil and just use along side your knife and have a nice clean, straight cut. Keep up the great work!
WD-40 will take off sticky residue, just apply and let sit for several minutes and use a clean rag to wipe away...repeat if necessary ........👍
If you don't insulate behind that drywall around the shower valve you will always have a cold spot there. Air can come up thru thru the walls or down from the roof. Fix this while you still can or else have to deal with it later.
For the labels, Pure Citrus Orange Air Freshener found at Wal-Mart in Automotive section works wonders. Spray it liberally and let it sit. Added benefit it smells wonderful. Found that trick while working at W-M..
To get the sticker off use you hair dryer, it melts the glue and it peels off easily, I use it on all stickers even glass ware
Put that waste sheetrock in the compost as it does the sweeten the ground and stuff just grows better. You can put right into the garden and rototill it right into the soil.
Big mistake in using that quick set compound. The two different joint compounds will expand and contract differently. With your extreme range in temperatures, it can be a future problem.
To get the label off the tub spray WD-40 on the label and just let it sit there after awhile it will simply come right off.
Also, typically when mudding the joints you mud the joint and place tape over it pulling a joint knife setting the tape flat and smooth. After that drys go over the joints with two thin coats and sand smooth feathering the edges. Don't forget to add a small bit of water in the mud bucket and mix with a drill mixer.
Nice song!! And a great movie, with Eddie Murphy!!! Love it!!!! Great memories!!!
Marty, Good for you for pre-filling those larger cracks before taping. Even most professionals don't do that but one professional I used did it all the time. I couldn't figure out what he was doing the first time I checked his work at the end of the very first day. The next morning he explained why he always did it that way and it made good sense.
Use Quick set for the first coat for strength and avoid cracking
Question ... Ant that Sheetrock , post to come down over the lip of the Shower ?
That's what I always talk on tubs and showers over the lips not behind otherwise water might get behind the shower. Maybe there's someone new way to do it but I don't know about
Isopropyl alcohol/rubbing alcohol will take the sticky stuff off, you can use most things really as long as you can wash it down with soapy water after and dont scrub hard when doing it
Drywall makes good composting material, lots of nutrients.
I appreciate you guys so much. I’m building my own house here in Jamaica and I’m learning so much from you. Keep shining🙏🏽🙏🏽
Try baby oil to remove the glue residue left after removing the labels on the tub/shower wall etc
WD40 works great to get off stickers. Just spray and let stand a bit. Use finger and a rag to peel off and clean
The apartment is coming together nicely,
Green board drywall has been industry standard, which is moisture resistant
In baths and kitchens I'll use purple drywall which is moisture, mold, and mildew resistant
I hear Julie is starting to say "man" now 😳 🤣 😂
The scrap Sheetrock if you wanted to you can burn the paper off grind it up it’s good for the garden and grassy areas. Where we live there used to be a gypsum plant where they mined the material for Sheetrock. Went there many times with my dad and get buckets full to spread on the garden and yard, Works similar to lime.
I hope Martin , Jules help Sarah build her own house right after this house finish , I love to watch your Chanel every day , SUBSCRIBED
Fast set joint compound is MUCH stronger for filling cracks , Lowes carries Beadex Silver Set (5, 20, 40, and 90 min. set time) in Coeur D'alene and Spokane stores , hardens like concrete so don't leave any excess on surface , just fyi 🎄👍😎
my question is why didnt you run the sheetrock over the flange on the tub surround
Rubbing alcohol will also help remove sticky residue from the surface.
As to those stickers on the tub, fixtures, etc., I've heard spraying WD-40 on those stickers will help them release.
use the small pieces of sheet rock in your closets it will help save some money, less waste
Hey look like you look like this is the old house program on TV are you the good people that teaches us how to do everything from scratch and to the end all right you guys have a good day
Would advice you to get a plasterers trowel, you can put more strength on this tool and squeez it in, no need to prefill, here its glassfibre-tape with small openings, dont know what you use/ have over there, expect the same. We also use big bags of plaster to mix yourself, alot cheaper than the premixes, especially considering the amount necessary.
Julie, all I use for sticker removal is hot water (not boiling water) I have used this for years and never had a problem
Glenn Frey-The heat is on! I knew it before you got the words right. LOL
I usually throw old towels in the tub to protect it whn I'm working above it. You could put your offcuts of sheetrock in it.
I' ve heard that warming the stickers with a hair dryer makes them easier to remove but I've never tried it.
I have heard of using drywall in the garden, I would check first.
Would the drywall scraps work for artistic painting? You could donate them to a school art class to use as practice canvasses. Just an idea!
A little WD 40 should remove the glue off your bathroom shower panel. Also works when removing any leftover double sided tape residue.
Perfect work with the last sheet of drywall!!! My respect! 😎👍
The tape is what prevents the seam from cracking
To get the stickers off the tub I used steam worked perfectly
Sara is the brains of the operation
You need to cover the edge of the tub with sheet rock.
Just a thought, what I’ve done in the past is find out if someone who is currently doing Sheetrock work, if They need could use the short cuts on their project. Always seems to be someone who is doing or getting ready to need some extra cuts. But everything else goes to the dump. Just a thought.
One more thought for drywall scraps. Use them to practice texturing.
Sheetrock is excellent for soil & garden applications. Crushing it up to spread is a pain though. Good for compost pile. Ask google for more yard uses. Love your vids. Livin the dream.
You can put a little bit of the sheetrock in your garden. It's sort of like lampaster / line. The peanut farmers in eastern North Carolina get
If there was a way to regrind sheet rock make soil conditioner depending on type soil one has
You all are getting there! Before too much longer you’ll be ready for trim and paint… ironically what I’m wrapping up on our bathroom today.
When you have a wall with many protrusions, use a story board in both directions. Mark both sides of each protrusion. No measuring needed.
Soak the labels on your bathtub with hot soapy water and they should peel off, used to have that problem on bathroom china also as a plumbing contractor.
