I can just picture any resident ghost going, "WHO DARES DISTURB MY HOME?! I SHALL . . . I . . . I . . . oh. Oh my. I-I'll just leave you to it then. Carry on," and slinking back to the attic or wherever.
And by 'slinking back to the attic' I assume you mean 'sitting down to tea' 😊
@@heatherelise327 Actually, I meant the ghost was going to stay well out of the way of the work so as not to disrupt it.
The tea would come afterward though. :)

Imagine having a ghost that helps you find that tool that you had just a minute ago. "Where'd I put that dremel bit I just had in my hand... *apparition of hand holding bit* OH! Thanks Agnes!" (little old lady ghosts are name Agnes, I don't make the rules here)
Lmao right? Instantly put restless spirits at ease.
Literally, the way some of the parts of the wallpaper were unsalvagable and Christine was just like "No worries, I'll just color match everything perfectly and then expertly replicate the design"...l-like what??? That's incredible!!
Christine is one of those people with both ‘the eye’, or vision for how something looks, and artistic ability. You definitely need both to gain that ‘I can do it’ confidence.
I wish I had just a smidgen of her talent and ability.
I wonder if in some point in time she found an old bottle on a beach. ⚱️💨 🧞♀️
My mind was boggled!
I'm both an artist AND history major and I was literally sitting here tearing up at the skill, care, devotion, attention to detail....just everything you put into this. It made both my artist and historian heart so happy and content. From here on out, this video is going to be what I show people who tell me "oh, [insert supposedly impossible thing here] can't be done." Tell that to the lady that painted damaged portions of incredibly intricate wallpaper in a style she said she didn't really do all so she could salvage something she loved. I can't wait to see what else you've done in this gorgeous house. Instant subscription!
Such a talented artisan is Christine! She undoubtedly was one of those great Gilded Age painters of textiles and wall hangings/papers in a former incarnation? 💛 her style, and yes me too, instant sub 😍
Just imagine if we had legions of such loving, care taking ladies to sweep this country and restore all of the old, historic pieces of everything!!! OMG........I get all weepy from the thought of it!!
The amount of talent she possesses is astounding.. she HAND PAINTED THE FUCKING WALLPAPER. I can’t even paint my nails correctly. Amazing.
If you make a pattern for it, it isn't horribly difficult. It just takes precision and time. On a computer you can do it very fast, but by hand it simply takes more time.
I'm with you 💯!! I can't stay inside the lines of a coloring book and she's making fucking wallpaper...amazing! I'm just green over her home!
I 100% agree!!!!!
Lol the passion in that comment.
You made me spit out my chipotle. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
When you peeled back the 80's wallpaper to reveal the floral underneath I thought, "This house has been waiting patiently for her for a very long time." I bet it feels like it can finally breathe.
Agreed! Christine is the perfect owner for it, she'll make it a mansion!
Yes! How true!
Agreed. I think the house & Christina suit one another well.
@@aquariusrose5621 a pretty and spooky one 😄
Like peeling off sunburnt skin.
When people said you were the best person to take care of this house, THIS is what they were talking about. No one else would find wallpaper from an archive photo, uncover it, and paint it back to life.
She is so much better than the old owner he did nothing and you could barely see the house because the lights where never on and it is great to see that someone if restoring on of our towns landmarks
Some of us would.... restoring my old windows soon... everyone else is replacing theirs with new because of the misconception that they are more energy efficient 😔
Yes, seeing all the time, effort, and talent that went into the restoration, I’m like, NOW I get why they covered it up instead of trying to fix it. She’s one of a kind.
That dedication to detail is truly amazing. Not only the dedication, but the talent to achieve it.
@@src4409 Interesting comment, S RC.. could you expand on that at all? Are you saying double-glazing is no more energy efficient than ordinary glass? or something else? I'm genuinely interested, if you have some evidence or further explanation of your POV.
My house was built by my great-great grandparents in 1886 (wiring & plumbing has been updated of course). Majority of fixtures & lighting is from 1937 when great-grandparents took over ownership then passed to grandparents then to my father. It’s been kept up throughout its history. I took ownership in 2017 & have been trying to restore anything/everything I can to it’s original glory. While restoring original wood floors we had to remove newer flooring & found a hatch into the floor & found all kinds of documents, and original prints from build. Took forever to have wallpaper made in the original print. Also found 12 old tin style photos of house with great-great grandparents.
That is so fantastic!!
What a joy for you!!!!
This is so cool. Now I know how this happen. My husband built a second story on our house. We we're living in the house when he did this so the girls lived in their rooms before they were finished. The other day we opened up a storage area in the back of my closet and found the girls bookshelf with all their children's books in there. I had wondered where those books went.
thanks for sharing. wonderful.
In the days of yore I lived in big old house. One gloomy day my friend came over & she asked 'What should we do?' Me- Let's check out the attic! We found a bunch of old things the owner didn't want- old books in German, baskets, an old pair of wood skis (avid skier!). I still have these things. Quite the adventure for a rainy afternoon!
I guarantee you, the only reason the original owners _aren't_ haunting you right now is because they too also loved that wallpaper and are astounded by the meticulous detail you will go to make it perfect again.
They must be thrilled to have someone who will meticulously restore this beautiful old place instead of gutting it and remodeling it into how they think it should look like.
There's a Ghost Hunters episode where this guy totally restored this old Victorian to its original glory. He wanted to sell but the ghost didn't want to let him leave. They think it's because the original owner was haunting it and she loved what he did with the place. 🤣🤣🤣
Lol my family was the original owners think my great great great great... grandpa is chil
@@taylorshepherd9384 That's awesome!
Right.
Only Christine... "I could've taken this to a paint store and had professionals do it, and still not be happy. Or I could do it myself and nail it, like the queen that I am."
Yes! I am amazed by her 🌸
She's absolutely AMAZING!
OK....who else is shocked by the level of prefessionalism in this video?! I thought it was gonna be a home restoration but this lady just blown my mind!!! Never thought she would actually handpaint the wall!! So talented!!!
Not me. I have been following her for years.
I've been following her for years too, but I am gobsmacked by the precision replication. What a great way to honor the house and it's legacy.
You took the words right out of my mouth 👄.
Painting was the first thing I thought of. After a long, tedious though vaguely interesting, and fruitless search of the internet for an exact match, of course.
For reals! This is great. Who are the jerks that give this vid 180 thumbs down? Crazy.
Rose pink, moss green, dove gray, cream and gold. What a timeless and beautiful palette.
Me: Wow, that color matching must have taken weeks of trial and error
Christine: it took me 4 days
😆
LOL, I thought "months" since she's been out for so long :D
i feel so inferior to Christine but I dont mind, She's incredible.
I thought the same thing, that I thought it had taken weeks of trial and error to color match all those shades! She has an incredible amount of patience. I have no real talent in art, so I'm continually amazed by the depth of her talent. Everything she makes is beautiful, and a work of art.
I went to school for textile design and i remember how painstaking color matching can be. i remember it could take half a day just to get one color right.
I am genuinely impressed by all the effort that she has put through restoring the wallpaper. Like she hand painted the missing bits of the wallpaper and that is just so *chefs kiss*
As a historian I am so incredibly happy you not only saved that wallpaper but you went above and beyond to restore those places where the paper was gone/ruined. Your end result is gorgeous!
She's done amazing work! I do worry however that there might indeed be a bit of arsenic green there - maybe even in the glue used to bind the wallpaper. She thankfully wore a mask during the dustiest parts of the process, but it would be quite sad indeed if she had to remove the old wallpaper for safety reasons. (Although at least she can repaint it to look the same!)
But arsenic based greens!!!

"And while I want visitors to feel cared for and comfortable... I also hope they feel a bit wary and suspicious."
THIS. Is the vibe I want for my house. 👻❤️ Love this lady so much!
The fact that she could've just painted the pattern, had it made and re-cover all the walls with new wallpaper but instead she chose to painstakingly match the colors, draw out the patterns, and paint every stroke shows how much she is committed to the historical beauty of the past.
You are a gift from a otherly place sent here to show us mere mortals how it's done . Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing!
Ya its super cool! Though given the age of the paper, it'll be full of arsenic. So I'm not sure I'd want to live with it.

This girls entire world is a canvas. I swear everything is a painting to her. It's just magnificent.
I’m dying to see that original red wallpaper underneath. The coloring and pattern was beautiful

Much more beautiful colour IMO!
As an artist, who has specialised in color theory, I commend you for your mind blowing patience. When you first started trying to match the colors, I was definitely doubtful, but you actually made the impossible, possible! You truly are a genius for doing this! You did a SUPERB job!
Right?! And it only took her 4 days to get fourteen colors.

I almost wish there was a ghost living there so they could also be like, "Oh damn, she's really nailing the vibe."
I bet if there are the previous owners, they’re very impressed that she’s restoring it in (sort of) their style. It’s pretty flattering that someone a hundred plus years later still thinks you had fashionable taste.
Lol right? Like the ghost be like "Ya know I was gonna scare em out. Like a whole A Haunting in Connecticut/Conjuring thing but damn she repainted half my wall paper by hand. She stays."

So I'm new here and unaware of this lady's talents, which is all the more reason I was blown away. I've never felt quite so elated and crippled with anxiety at the same time. The second that paper came down and it was damaged with bits missing I was like 'Don't do it, Christine. It's not achievable. Manage your expectations. Realistic goals, please.'
All throughout I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown thinking it wouldn't work out and then not only does she boss it, but she takes the ceiling from 0 to 100 with just a touch of paint!
Lesson for today: Half of the battle is just telling yourself you can do it. Looking at something and seeing solutions rather than problems.
She's been in my world for all of five minutes but now Christine is the person I aspire to be! 😍
Yep. My aesthetic could not be more different to Christine’s but I don’t think I have come across a more talented person that her. So good at so many different things!
She does this amazing artwork and never gets paint on herself and never has a hair out of place. I would look like someone that stuck her tongue in a light socket after a few hours of painting.

When she showed the dining room complete the first thing that came to mind is the words of Lestat, "There's still life in the old lady yet."

She's supernaturally productive and talented in ways well beyond my tiny imagination. I'm filled completely with jealously and awe.
I've said once and I'll say it again....she's a WITCH!!! WITCH CRAFT I SAY!!! LOL
Do you ever just get overwhelmed with the amount of steps to do? Creating is a form of zen. Everything you do is so impressive and I feel I learn so much about what patience and “living in the moment” really means and can accomplish.

The amount of love and patience that was put into every detail of the wallpaper thrills me. Too often I see people buying up these beautiful old houses for aesthetics, then completely modernizing everything. It really breaks my little old heart to see the history vanish. Her devotion to bring her style and the original home together is refreshing. I can’t wait to consume more content.
wow the end result is breathtaking, maybe quite literally. Imagine being invited to a murder mystery party at Christine's, dressing up in vintage clothes, feasting together around this table and then tell each other ghost stories in front of the fireplace. I'm so jealous!
You can tell TRUE CLASS, when the Lady of the Manor wears her jewelry over her work gloves!!!
A REAL Victorian Lady for sure!!! 🥰🥰
I am completely with you on your choice of this room restoration! The previous wallpaper is SO much more in sync with the manors personality. Gorgeous wallpaper for certain!
You KNOW this manor is breathing a sigh of relief that Ms. McConnell is the new mistress in charge now! Putting everything back to rights, making everything fresh again, keeping the manor happy as it once was so many decades ago. This piece of architecture will last forever, with the fabulous refresh it will get from the phenomenal Christine McConnell!! I'm sure this manor appreciates the dedicated use of "old school" methods, rather than technological uses, to bring it back to life!
Too bad we can't clone Ms. McConnell into a legion of lovely ladies to go around the country, restoring gorgeous old pieces of history!!!
Christine is a queen, and her artistic abilities are that of an old master, but can we just talk about the exquisite camera angles and superb editing?
Yes.
The amount of TALENT this woman has is truly Supernatural.
Teach me your ways!! 😭
Is it just me or does it look like she’s defying gravity in the thumbnail....and I’m all for it
The vibes I get from this room is that a large gathering of strangely related people will be called together, one will be poisoned during the dinner party that night, and somehow everyone will be peculiarly implicated in the murder
🤣
Yes! I don't know if I'd want to excitedly accept or instantly decline an invitation to dinner at Christine's house.
Yes!!!!
It definitely gives off the Agatha Christie, Connan Doyle vibes or the CLUEDO. Solve the murder mystery before the criminal gets away.
I completely agree !!!
It gives that sensation. Watch your back if you’re invited for dinner! 👀🕵🏻♂️
She is perfection at everything she does. Just imagine saying "I have to paint on the missing segment of the wallpaper"... henny, Its criss cross floral print though. Then she has to color match 14 shades of paint. I am in awe of you!
