Awesome review bud totally makes my day to come across this! To answer your question, my directions are aimed more at guys with very large big rig show trucks, generally when washing something giant like that while outside with the air moving and the sun shining the struggle is to not let the soaps dry, especially since they also generally have $5k-$10k worth of mirror polished aluminum on their rides which is very easy to stain, so rinsing right away is aimed more at those guys. In your situation I think your logic to allow some dwell time would work out great on the results level and would not pose any threat whatsoever.
What a brilliant product, well done guys ❤. Do you believe it would degrade ceramic coatings to use it every month or two? I often have to do a full wash on an almost clean car and it's a dream of mine to one day have a safe touchless wash every month or so 🤞😀😊
@@claudiadavies5110thank you! I have not seen any adverse effects on ceramic coatings actually, these soaps end up at neutral pH then combined so they are actually on the gentile side in reality
@@lowfuel6089I appreciate the order thank you! I usually just get right to rinsing at the same spot I started foaming and circle the vehicle in the same direction, that should give you a good 60 seconds dwell time, the goal is to save as much time as possible😁
I still need to try this combination of Stars and Stripes. I want to try their Snake Oil product also to see if it's something I can add into my wash routine for a quick coating. Also want to try their Heavy Duty, Wash product with protection, and their regular wash and their foam wash for a foam cannon. Also want to try their interior detailer with the leather scent.
I’ve been using stars and strips for a year now. It’s my go to winter soap. I live in the northeast and when it’s too cold to hand wash this stuff is a godsend.
Wow wow wow, impressive! I'm desperate for a touchless wash for when the car's just a little bit dirty cos I get fed up with the hour long process even with a barely dirty car. But I get stuck with how to dry it. I've got deionised water so could just leave it wet😊. Loved this video, so thorough and informative 😊😊😊
I have used stars and strips this past summer and loved it, I have three black cars and its awesome for a quick wash to get light dirt off. I did not used it every wash or it was good for a quick prewash if its too dirty
Colton, you're one of the very very few RUclipsrs I trust - thanks for doing this test. Living in Montreal, Canada I go full NO TOUCH for winter washes(Dec.- March) using Bilt Hamber Touchless and will stick with it, I'm worried on Stars & Stripes impact on the softer surfaces(rubbers, seals, plastics, etc.) Happy New Year and a BIG Thank you for all the educative content you put out.
The promotion starts by getting the stuff for free, you don’t have to get paid. Totally fine when you’re open about it and we really appreciate the reviews.
Thanks for the video Colton, always been curious about this product on consumer passenger vehicles. I’d be super curious to see you try Bilt Hamber Touchless as a comparison. I think it’s a safer option for more frequent use. In AZ where the car is usually only dusty a Touchless wash plus DI rinse is magic. Thanks!
Chem X is Solid, We use their stuff in the shop, my guys and our clients love the snake oil. One of the companies in the pro detail world that carries High and Low Ph which imho is the best method on doing contact or contactless wash because u can adjust ur soap accordingly to the vehicle ur doing, also next try Stripes first then Stars , Clean and Dries faster.
A friend uses the ChemX Stars and Stripes system on his dump truck. He swears by it, as goes on construction sites as well as plows snow as a private contractor.
I agree with you, I only use these stronger products sparsely. Even something like Bilt Hamber Touch-Less, which is very safe (and even fairly gentle on sealants) is only used when absolutely necessary for me. There are a lot of excellent cleaning soaps out there that are closer to pH neutral that still do an excellent job of breaking down the dirt so it can be rinsed off safely/effectively prior to the contact wash. I'm just a DIY'er, so I enjoy washing my car and taking that time to relax. If I wanted to hit my car with acid all the time, I'd just take it through the touchless wash at the gas station.
I was super excited to give this a try…bought a gallon of each hoping it would save me some time for a maintenance wash here and there. I use just like the instructions say every time, and it’s stripping my rubber, fading my headlights plastic, etc. ion my 10 year old pick up truck. When I run out I don’t think I’ll order more. Would rather use another wash method that I know is safer and always ends with better results. Worth trying though!
Damn that’s awful to hear sorry about your experience there, did you happen to grab any shots of the issue when it came up that you could send my way so I can start looking into that?
@ I did not. Honestly I think it’s because it’s an older truck that is parked outside all the time…more susceptible to any issues. I’m still going to be using it occasionally until it’s gone…will take photos next time if it does it again.
It seems like a solid product. And unless you have a large truck, you should be able to use around 500ml in the cannon for one foam. That would double the amount of washes you get out of it
Loved the Video. Well done. I use Stars and Stripes on coated vehicles and because they are coated you don't have to use it at full strength. I use my Turbo tip because my Pressure washer is not the most powerful and from the right distance it hits hard enough to knock loose the dirt that the products looses up. I spray back and forth like I am painting a car with 50% overlap. Going over it fast leaves chances to miss. I follow the turbo tip with a garden hose Fan Spray top down. I have to say just a coating is ok but adding a topper after a wash is the way to go. I follow the wash with a topper. ChemX sells one called Snake Oil that goes on with a foam cannon or diluted 1:100 in a pump sprayer after the soap rinse, followed that with a fan 25 degree tip with the pressure washer is a game changer. I use other soaps "Shampoos" between ChemX washes and you will be amazed the results with a topper on the coating. I don't see what you call clogging of the Coating using it. Everyone has their way doing things and being in my 60's I keep an eye out for things that make my life a little bit easier.
As a happy EV owner, ironically this is the out of spec review that’ll sway whether I’ll buy something more than all the rest. Their Snake Oil product also looked like a great option to apply quarterly vs a proper ceramic coat. Would be interested in your thoughts on that.
I use Snake oil on coated vehicles and it offers that added protection and makes the washes easier. I start spring with Stars and Stripes then a pH neutral soap touch wash and clay and decon. I follow that with Snake Oil as a topper for the coating, blow dry then dress the vinyl and tires. Quick and easy the next wash will be under normal conditions.
@@MrNoclutchit’s so cool to see you guys talking about my soaps, I’ve been working to make them as good as I can for over 20 years, been a long road lol
I've been using Koch Chemie Active foam. I have been slightly concerned about regular use on that also. It's labeled at 9.5 ph. I assume that number drops when it mixes with the water out of the canon. The first time put it on, I was also shocked at how clean the car looked without a contact wash. Seemed about 95% cleaner.
I love what Bob has created at ChemX, his product works! He’s got a very cool RUclips channel. Not sure I want to use a Turbo Nozzle on my newer cars even with 700-900PSI with Active 2.0. I’m just not sure if it’s good for my properly (ceramic) coated cars.
If you need foam cannons their Chrome Cannons are $50 for 2 and they are just as good as almost any of the expensive foam cannon on the market i.e. MTM, Griots Boss, and MJJC.
The acid side hits bugs and irons like brake dust harder, the alkaline side hits oils better. In car washes generally the allaline side hits first, in trucking the acid side. Mine is geared toward the trucking industry so I direct acid first, but if the vehicle isn’t as clean as needed on the first try switching the steps could help

Definitely interested to hear you thoughts on bilt hamber. I've tried it but not as impressed as others online seem to be.
@@renuinghonestly it’s not impressive but it does its job while 99% of snow foams (almost) do nothing. In a way that makes it stand out.
You're gonna love the newest product from Chem-X, Old Glory. full NO TOUCH for winter in a one step foam. It works great!

Not sure when using aggressive chemicals became a safe method of washing.
They mix to neutral pH, the additional safety comes from the elimination of potential scratches from mitt washing
I've seen other people do this with similar products but use the alkaline soap first. Does it matter?

@ChemX got it.. thanks for the explanation
I like it, but it uses a TON of water, and you'll be blowing through DI resin like there's no tomorrow.
Most that tend to lean towards these types of washes arent using DI water, unless they have large tanks filled with it
So don’t use DI
Or maybe just turn off the DI system until the final rinse. No need to use DI for anything else really
I use my DI for a quick mist after the vehicle has been rinsed, those filters don’t last very long and I’ve found that helps
