@@callmemvp Yeah, most games are based and take elements from FPS games before them. Quake elitists are a part of the reason our community is dying, if anything, quake is super vanilla and nothing really special to most FPS games(though, it is apart of the beauty for me).
So the self proclaimed "Best Quake Champion player in the world" was 3-0'ed by the actual best player in the world. Glad to see this match come together.
well the "self-proclaimed" did hit an insane amount of RG across the 3 maps. Say what you will but only for some of his insane rail queues he deserves to be reckoned with. Getting a bit emotional and overconfident did make him loose the matches but considering his age, that's not surprising.
VASO yea Fatal1ty had his era undoubtedly but Rapha isn’t contained in single generation of the Quake, he has been active over so many years while playing various iterations of Quake while mastering all of them & never faded away from the scene & had played highest level of quake more consistently over the years than anyone that could be named
Zenith honestly speaking I like both of them they both have been great ambassadors of the Arena FPS games over the years. My only wish is to see more exposure of the arena genre again & to see people getting involved more into the game again like good ol’ days
Absolutely! Its great that these moba-type abilities reduce the importance of good aim, so that people with worse aim can still come on top if they play smart and hit a good flamestrike or dire orb.
Raphas combat skills were still pretty amazing. How many clutch rail shots did he get and only have about 20 hp...how many clutch dire orbs? Clawz got handled he wouldnt stand a chancr in ql vs rapha
Well, that's how it goes. You can't get smarter if you're not outsmarted every now and then. Clawz is young, he still has many years to improve. If he keeps at it and doesn't lose his mad aim, he'll be pretty scary by the time he's over 30.
@najtofni Yep, real shame though how the abilities allowed him to worry about tactics less and saved him when his tactics failed. Devs shouldnt have let the DK be in the tourney until it was properly tuned to everyone's approval. But while clawz has his good moments, doesnt mean rapha is actually at a disadvantage in 'combat ability'. No matter now though, the game doesnt strive unless money is being poured into it, seems like a lost cause. Rapha will find a way to strive anyway, though, and clawz can move on with his life doing other ventures.
@najtofni if everyone at the time of the tourney, was able to do 200 damage by flame striking and shooting a rocket at the same time, that makes it fair? Maybe, but unbalanced still. But you cant attribute knowing that the flamestrike didnt intervene with rocket shooting to some incredible game knowledge. At the end, the outcome becomes more random, and based more on these short term things, as opposed to being based on long term control, which is what rapha actually exceeds at.
Yeah and both of their sitting posture is bad too. Bad eyes plus scoliosis = no more prize $ and mediocore quaking without gunnar glasses and a racing chair..I mean wheel chair.
Awesome series. It was nice to see Rapha have his aim on point to backup the clever plays. Team Liquid has gotten some payback for the duel BO1 victory of Clawz over Dahang at QuakeCon.
Too much aggressive. In a favor trade situation, instead of back off and restock, he tries to do more damage and give Rapha chance to trade back. Also because of his hot head, he blindly rush into a DK with Flame Strike available, CLOSE RANGE lol
lol it's a Quake duel, not COD death match. You don't fight head on if you know you at a disadvantage, you restock for armor, health and try to chipping away your opponent's resources before commit to a head on fight.
@@theluanvuong5886 makes sense...but that's clawz tho! He will beat Rapha 5 games out of 10 playing his style. It was just Raphas side of the dice that faced this time.

I think Clawz has the greatest potential in Quake champions. Rapha and Raisy are the best right now but if Clawz takes the game seriously he will become the god of quake. his reactions and natural skills are out of this world, and he is also really young.
Such a shame that flee and zoot are casting this. These two must be among the most colorless pair of casters in quake history, if not all of esports. Not just because of their lacking analysis but because they are also devoid of any humor or imagination. Unlike Jehar and Ketchup, who have personality and wittyness. But above all I miss the likes of ZSX, DDK, Makaveli and 2GD. Analysis and humor together is the best casting, examples of such is the recent QOL NA with Rapha and Jehar at the mics.
Clawz literally said taht he was the best Quake player and he couldn't even take a map off of Rapha. Why do you disappoint me Clawz. Clawz is still the best player when it comes to aim, he just need to not rush in 60% if of the time. Those are rookie errors.
clawz got out played hard. of course he'll have better aim he's younger than rapha and probably plays way more. rapha said in a stream that 4 hours is too long to be playing at 28 years of age. if this were quake live clawz wouldn't even be on the board
Damn Clawz, you have got to stop playing so recklessly. Of all players to try brute force tactics, Rapha is not the one. Mad respect for both of ya, hell of a game.
Everyone is talking about how brilliant rapha is, but all I've seen is super "balanced" abilities thrown at someone who is better than rapha. I'd love to see this visor v visor no abilities
Clawz got outplayed. Rapha explains his tactics in the post game interview and with that in mind you can tell how brilliantly he executed them. That forced Clawz into breakneck engagements where he is vulnerable to Raphas ability play. That being said, DK's ability is really overpowered in QC and I'd like to see that nerfed properly. All in all though, I'm glad abilities exist. They shift the focus a bit further from pure aim skill onto tactical considerations
@@XFeuerFestX I can't disagree with pushing clawz into difficult situations, but it makes awful anticlimactic watching, and more than that it seems like a Nerf of skill when there are free kill abilities everywhere in the game. I think dire orb is in the best place as far as skill to useful tool status
I agree with that. I think Flamestrike could be balanced by just making the fire balls slower. That would make it the area denying ability it was meant to be while limiting the instakill potential to very close range situations or extremely skilled shots. Then on top of that maybe decide on one of the two DOT trickles. Either it's the Slash Trail rapid trickle, or it's Sorlag's acid trickle with some added information as a bonus. I see no reason why Deathknight should be allowed both.
I don't know if that would be enough, it is very frustrating to die to any of the insta kill abilities at least keel is ultra slow, but it's still kinda cheesy
Gotta look at it this way: Skill in this game is not only dealing the damage, but avoiding to take damage aswell. The big problem right now is that flamestrike is almost impossible to avoid without severly limiting the way you can play, which is not fun. But if it was possible to avoid it by just not running into DK close range aka only somewhat limiting the way you're playing, it becomes a strategic consideration just like the ranger orb. Flamestrike needs to go from "Well fuck, there's nothing I could've done" to "Ah fuck, I shouldn't have done that" That only fixes it for the competitive game modes of course. TDM and DM will always be plagued by instakill abilities, but those are fun modes and shouldn't be the main concern for balancing imo.
clawz is SO arrogant IMHO. The guy is using the railgun TWICE more than masters as rapha. I love and respect rapha for all of his minded skillset, while I see clawz more like an arrogant and conceited kid - with a formidable aim, that’s for sure. Also, people keep talking about clawz’ ability to aim but dahang and rapha have formidable aim as well.
Clawz is very clearly one of the best aimers in Quake right now. Not only is his Rail percentage on point, it stays on point while he goes for absolutely insane angles pretty regularly. In that respect, i believe Rapha and Dahang would tell you themselves, they couldn't beat Clawz. Taking tons of rail shot's then is not arrogance, it's him playing to his strengths. If he now learns, to play to his opponent's weaknesses aswell, he'll be insanely strong. I was happy to see Rapha take the win aswell, don't get me wrong. My aim is pretty poor and I constantly have to make up for it in trying to find weakspots in my opponents, so I'm really happy to see that in this case Rapha, as the less mechanical player, was able to beat Clawz. But you can't fault mechanically skilled players to use that skill advantage.
@@XFeuerFestX that's not what I said. Clawz is arrogant in the sense he relies on his formidable aim so much that he always thinks he can stay and face up a full stacked rapha. Also, I disagree that rapha is one of the least mechanically skilled player. He takes incredible shots at rails, RL, LG and SG. And he has the best slash for sure.
