Haven't started watching the match yet, but damn, I can't believe Garpy is still around. How is it, that some people are just so skilled. I was watching Garpy playing Half-life back in 2001, and he was so beyond my imagination at the time, despite being a similar age. Awesome that he is still going. Ciao
@@fvhaudsilhvdfs It's such a shame that it was overlooked so much. HLCCL had a good run of it for a while. I loaded up the game recently and there are still a few full ffa servers xD. -(SePH|RoTH)-
With this run and gun, short tournament format (1 game?) it felt like luck decided too many games. On this skill level, 3-4 important matches were decided on the last champ by like 5 hp difference... somehow felt all too hektik for my taste...
Don't show me your ignorance and bias. Here are the facts: www.esportsearnings.com/games/157-quake-live Rapha 5 times Quakecon Champion vs Cypher 4 times. Facts, not feelings boy.
Tier4 Jean True that. I didn't like the BO1 format whatsoever, especially having such an amazing player lineup. Nevertheless, I've got to admit that even though the game at its current state is a bit too unpredictable, it oftentimes feels really satisfying!
The biggest, weirdest mistake might have been completely forgetting about mega at 21:48. He had exact time on both items... I wonder if he thought he could get both heavy and mega? He doesn't check whether heavy is up so he's assuming Garpy's just collected it. I really don't know. It shouldn't have been particularly dangerous either. 23:45 - Not running away from this fight while he could was also totally silly. Well, that's a close finish in either case.
24:17 real mistake by rapha was not to finish garpy off with dual wield let alone simple lg...2 hp situation was dependent on aim not as guaranteed as this should've been
footballcoreano rapha's style usually means that if he makes a mental mistake he can get screwed...garpy's more aim dependent style allows for those sort of mistakes a bit more
Hiding IS strategy, actually. But you are right about "ql is too defensive hiding game". New system (3 rounds + sudden death) is 100000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than ql 10 mins + 2 min overtime (and + 2 min overtime again if draw)
lol, so overwatch champions is more skill-based than ql, you say? btw, no relevant player thinks the new duel system is good, everyone wants it to change to the old one
During the last play, Rapha took a risk which gave him a 90% chance of winning that battle; however, Garpy won it with his 10% chance. It's interesting to see that Clawz dominated Garpy, which is probably a good idea what could have happened to Rapha. Perhaps we will see Rapha vs Clawz next year.
Rapha struggled with Garpy; however, Clawz easily wiped out Garpy. It doesn't get any clearer than that that Clawz would have probably most likely wiped out Rapha as well considering he easily wiped out Dahang who won 1st place at Dreamhack winter 2017 with 1st place. Also, remember Cooller wiped out Rapha last year. Point is, this is Quake Champions, not Quake Live, so you can't assume that Rapha would transfer his skills over to a new game. Players tend to dominate one game but do not transfer that to different games.
I think rapha already fought clawz and won 2-0 in a bo3 at Dreamhack Winter 2017 when the meta was cpm + slash, doomguy and nyx. The video is on youtube already. Point is, I don't think it's wise to think that just because A beat B, and B beat C, that A can smash C. I do think clawz was pretty weak during the meta where lg was much weaker, but rapha isn't exactly one to be mechanically a god during a meta where control is a lot less important than raw aim with a much smaller overheal and stack. The last play normally is a 90-10 chance of winning in favor of rapha, but I disagree. Garpy ended up with the better positioning and had the totem, so it was much more of a 50/50 fight, in fact. It kind of goes to show how cheesy the game's abilities are when examined closely, because in Quake Live, Garpy would've been completely decimated seeing as he was one lg tick away from death. However, the totem heals was enough to nearly even the odds (110 vs 160, though Garpy had better positioning with the lg as rapha's movement is a lot more predictable moving down the steps) On the other hand, rapha is better known for being able to adapt to his opponent over time, and a bo1 definitely doesn't compliment that well at all. I think this duel (though fantastic to watch. Garpy's control over the items and his rockets were phenomenal) showcases that very well, as rapha was able to make a huge comeback and nearly win 3 rounds in a row. Do I think rapha could've beaten clawz in a duel? I think he has a pretty big shot at it, more than many people would think. Do I think it's an easy win? Of course not. Clawz has killer lg and he's incredibly skillful at snatching major items, which is something that would be new to rapha seeing as their duel in dreamhack winter was in a meta where lg was very weak.
+ Supr Rapha did not beat Clawz 2-0; you have to win 3 games, score was 3-2. Stupid bias. Regardless, as Jordan said, "Beat me when it matters." Clawz robbed everyone, including Rapha, nearly $200,000 at Quakecon (2017 and 2018)--nothing else matters.
+Kanivakil ...Yes he did. He won on corrupted keep and ztn, making it a 2-0 in a bo3. You're looking at the individual map scores. They also never dueled at Quakecon, but they did go at it in 2v2s, where Liquid dominated 4-0. Wouldn't Clawz be the one getting "robbed" there? Before you call out "stupid" bias, double check your facts. I'm just pointing out a fallacy and proving why a possible duel may not be as one-sided as you think, especially considering what has already happened at a previous lan. Players simply have different playstyles. Claws is certainly the best Quake Champions player followed by DaHanG, but Quake has always been a little more complex than that. +Angry Sprayer Starting stacks have always been tiny up until recent updates where starting stacks on medium/heavy characters make you op enough to bum rush people off spawn 90% of the time? I still think the old updates were horrible, but starting stacks have always been tiny...
Insane that 1 single mistake from GaRpY made this game soooo close.... Could very well have been a 3-0 if GaRpY waited for 0.00001 sec on big armor at 13:02 when rapha for some reason did a dive ontop of him.. rapha was so lucky to steal the armor because that dive was really stupid.
I dont know what rapha was doing with that wisor in 3rd round after killing garphys 2 champions. He just stoped to time items, pick ammo and health. He just wanted to kill and garphy got items advantage
Forgive my ignorance I have been out of the Quake community since Quake 3 and the only reason I know Quake Con was still going on is because of the Doom Eternal reveal. What Quake game are they playing?
It's just a 5 second Wallhack with a big cooldown and the enemy gets an audio-hint when you use it. Visors wallhack really is the least problematic ability in the game. BJs Dualwield is way worse. Dual-LG basically instakills you if you get caught in it.
Joseph Arnold as the other guy said that was a team game. Not to mention heavily focused on meta champions, which we all know dahang fully embraced. Duels are very different.
Who Cares? You’re statement is stupid. It’s a BO1 tournament for duels. Rapha and Dahang won 4-0 in a BO7 against clawz and toxjq... can we also mention that Rapha lost his duel only by 2hp? K... so what if Rapha played against Clawz in duel in a BO7 or BO5? What about Dahang after he figures out how Clawz plays? These are reasonable factors...

1 game format doesn't favor the better player many times
Ever, in fact.
2 vs 2 was the main event; due to the shortage of time, duels was a side event for fun.
I completely agree!
And even then duel got more views than the main event. 2v2 is fun to play but it is not as fun to watch as duel.

Don't; QC is a new game. You can't assume that he is the best of QC simply because he was dominant in QL.

Why bo1?
2 vs 2 was the main event and there was not enough time to play duels traditionally as people had to pack up and get ready to go home.
because they are lazy and lame
Well done Garpy you did England proud ;))
well i'm sure garpy practices with mostly continental European duellers, so England didn't have much to do with it

I don't play this game, but he's throwing. At 24:13 surely you would use your ability to get dual rocket launchers and then kill him?
At 84hp a direct rocket hit would kill him. He wanted to play it safe.
