    To be real, modular is not for everyone's liking and you need a ton of "boring" modules to make it jammable. A whole new world opemed for me when I realized that modular is not cool because of what it sounds like but how you sequence it. Now I have like 5 flavors of sequencers which I also use for modulation. The tone shaping and effects you can always do in post, but making lively sequences is so fun and surprising on eurorack

      I agree with you!! And what i always missed was a good sequencer, yes I have BSP but I don’t think it’s the same as having a Eurorack sequencer

      Modular become fun when you have tons of VCA and modulation sources. And even more fun with one knob-one function modules + analog things like cwejman or schippmann stuffs. I realized I get more and more creative with simple modules patched as fuck rather than menu-diving stuff with 294639 functionality

    • @mgyb8269

      Exactly this! Imo, the beauty of modular is in how you sequence your system (pitch, gates, and modulation). Also, another opinion, utility and "boring" modules are king! I got that epiphany watching Steevio explain his live improv method a few years back which started my modular journey as a result hehe.

    If speed and fast results is what you aim for, you lost the real soul of making music. After you stop the rush for a rendered stereo master to be released to the world, the real fun will come back. That is the fun we all had, when we started making music. I am so glad to have this back. This ist the love I missed when music was the profession that I made my living with.

    I have a large modular system and I don’t have zero time to use it at the moment. But I will never sell it because I know I will regret it as soon it’s gone. So I will keep it and waiting for better times. Maybe I will sell couple modules here and there just 2 buy another ones.

    I think your workflow with the electron gear and the modular already works pretty well. Consider that adding a few more modules will multiply what you can do with the system. If it gets boring you could sell a module or two to get something fresh.
    I would recommend to add some modules for CV manipulation and sequencing, maybe a cv controllable sampler/looper, and an additional effects module.

    They are made to be used. If you no longer use them and no longer consider them a key element of your setup, then sell them, and they will bring happiness to someone else. That is their ultimate purpose and the reason your friend built them with passion. Nevertheless, it's just my perspective :)

    Don't sell. Eurorack for life. The beauty is eurorack is your synth or system. You can't get this with any other format. You need quite a few modules to fully get it. At least 1 full case. It will defo get dull with a minimal set up. I use a full eurorack system with 5 rows of 104 hp. This is just about enough for me. Could do with another 104. lol. I have a studio with half modular and half traditional synths and drum machines and some acoustic. I use the modular the most. Reason- it offers the most fun and creativity. Patching is also very rewarding. It's beautiful and destructive. Build it then tear it down. No presets and no rules. enjoy your system and build.

    Writing a bunch of jams and then chopping bits out into tunes is part of the fun. You don’t need to use it every session, but great when you wanna nerd out and capture ideas that’s harder to capture in software

    I think the best thing is make space next to your desk for the modular (not on top)and have a hybrid setup. If sync is an issue there are several options for getting everything = sample accurate tight. I would not sell. Though I would change the monitors, had the focal 6be and at such close distances, they just don't open up and were too woody and dry for my taste )

    • @distillednoise
      @distillednoise  6 месяцев назад

      Yes you are right i was thinking of getting a stand to get all of my gear on my side. Regarding the speakers, they are definitely to big for this room, they were better in my old one which was more than double the size. For now i work a lot on my Headphones. Not ready to sell the Focals but it’s something i might consider in the future

    • @maxb4057
      @maxb4057 6 месяцев назад

      @@distillednoise yes bro you'll thank me once you sell them and get something meant more for smaller spaces and nearfield applications.. I would look into the Iloud precision / mtm series.. Those Focals are great but really need distance, they do better with acoustic music and not electronic as they are too mid forward, and need at least 3-4 m to open fully.

    I own a lot of modular but despite that based on what you're saying I would say sell it and use the money to fund gear you actually use as it's expensive stuff and if it's not getting used you should find a way to use that money for something else that will get use. I would also say having more modular means that it gets used more. I have about 2.5x the modules you do in my rack and I felt the same way you did when I had around the same amount of modules. These days the modular gets used on every track in one way or another. It's an indispensable piece of music making equipment in my set up.

    Sell it! I can see that you only enjoy half the modules and you are in a position where you would need more modules to really decide if you like modular.

      @telexcopiomusic 7 месяцев назад

      @@distillednoise cheers brother, I think a good approach in order to keep eurorack would be to create more raw system, add a couple of traditional synthesis modules, they can be cheap.
      2/3 oscillators, small analog sequencers, filters or processors, something that can make your eurorack work also as an fx processor of whatever you put inside.
      But all of this can all be done with an arp2600 too so. But yea, having a couple of one module voices kind of restricts the philosophy of patch programmability where the system can be very broad and flexible depending on how you patch it. :)
